Video of Prologue at a time with Scene One

The opening cutscene starts with a brown-haired man driving down a winding forest road, as he explains who he is and where he is going;

My name is Orpheus. Once a novelist, but after losing my memory, I couldn't complete any valuable writing. Now I'm just a private detective with no clients. Until, I received this strange request: investigate an infamous estate and find a man's lost daughter. Besides the check, it was the name on the letter that intrigued me. Not 'Orpheus,' but [Player Name]. An alias that almost nobody knew, but me.

Intrigued by the mystery, Orpheus arrives at the manor in the middle of a storm, and enters the large building through its front doors.

Scene One - New Owner[]

"After nearly half a day on the road, I have finally arrived at the manor mentioned in the commission letter. Due to the unexpected storm, the dilapidated main house in the huge manor became my first destination.

As I entered the main house, I found that most of the rooms inside were in disrepair due to years of neglect. The rain and cold kept urging me to leave this place. Until I opened the door of the living room…"

"For somewhere that's been deserted for 10 years, this room is in remarkable condition. I think I'll stay here for the night. But it's too dark in here. I need to find an alternative light source before the fuel in this lantern runs out." Orpheus steps into the room, finding a few candles on the top of an old piano, which he lights.

"Thank god, the candles here still burn. There should be more on the wall." Lighting the remainder of the candles, the living rooms becomes fully visible. "I know it's all psychological, but these candles really calm the nerves."

Paper Airplane

A rat scurries around in the ceiling tiles, shaking loose a Paper Airplane which flies to the floor and catches Orpheus' attention. "A paper airplane? Something that children usually play with. Someone was probably playing around and it got caught up there. Then a rat, scared by the light, shook it from the lamp. Who made it though?" Investigating the paper, he unfolds it and discovers that it is a page from a diary, covered in typos and messy handwriting. "This looks like a page from a diary. Interesting, the date is from several days ago. The person who wrote this is most likely connected with our missing person."

Although I can't write anymore, I still have an uncanny ability to sense the emotions of a text; this is an ability most people do not possess. By reading the text, I can attempt to reconstruct the scene and even find out information about the author." Reading the diary page, Orpheus begins his restoration, and takes the perspective of Lucky Guy who tries to escape from the Hunter Smiley Face. Although Lucky manages to flee out the exit gate, his teammates do not.

After completing his reconstruction of the scene, Orpheus shares his thoughts on the contents. "...the diary stops here...but what on earth does that mean? A 'Carnival?' It reads like something that was written by a lunatic...I really hope that Mr. Reichenbach's daughter is not involved in this."

"What I really need to do now is find the rest of this diary and find out what's happened here. There should be other clues these sheets of paper." He begins searching for more of the diary pages to obtain more clues on what's going on.

Finding soot on the page, he heads to the Fireplace in the center of the room. "There is charcoal in the fireplace...but no diary. That's not surprising. But something else has attracted my attention, the unburned firewood. The chimney has been sealed off. Seems the owner didn't use the fireplace and its true purpose remains unclear." Investigating the fireplace further, he finds an imitation candlestick attached to one end. "This candlestick is...I think I know why there's and extra candle here. It's firmly attached to the fireplace, and seems to actually be a part of the fireplace." Gripping the candlestick, Orpheus twists it, and the Fireplace completely rotates, dust falling from the wall seams.

Scene Two - The Clue[]

"When the wall stopped rotating, about a hundred books that looks almost exactly the same came into focus. Intuition told me that the page that I was holding in my hand came from one of these books. And it was this simple fact that astounded me——"

Staring at the books, Orpheus states, "I used to detest bedtime reading when I was a child." As he begins to rifle through the books, he realizes it won't be as easy as he thought. "...trying to find a diary in here with a missing page is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The search for one specific diary is no longer important. All of these diaries are significant." He picks a diary at random and reads it.

"I have never seen anything so odd. It is obvious that these entries were not written by the same person...which means they were insane, or something else has happened here that I do not yet understand. Hmm, they have raised more questions than they have answered...it seems I shall have to apply a more archaic method to obtain the information that I need."

Considering the evidence discovered from the diaries on the shelf, Orpheus considers the authors and what kind of people they each were. "I think I can catalog the particulars of all the authors into profiles based on the information I have found. Character profiles will help with my analysis." As he constructs the profiles from the entries, he realizes that some of them participated in the same "game" at the same time. "According to this entry, the author describing this game is a Doctor. The entry from this doctor is more detailed and complete. I think this will be a good place to begin."

Orpheus is then able to reconstruct one of these "games" from Emily Dyer's perspective, learning more about how the games work from the survivor's side. Completing her diary, he wonders about the mysterious Hunter and their purpose. "As for the hunter...I'm still not clear about his role in this 'game.' But, he has what I am looking for." As the hunters do not keep a diary, however, Orpheus decides to continue reading through the diary entries. "Perhaps, it would be better to approach the problem from another person's perspective."

Sifting through the entries, he notes that "It would seem the rules don't apply to the hunter. The hunter has hindered everyone since the beginning, regardless of their actions. But how was it that no one resisted the hunter? Was it because of the hunter's strength? Or...has everyone simply yielded to the hunter's dominance? Does the hunter take pleasure in this 'game'? Or, to put it another way, is that the real purpose of this 'game'?"

"It is ironic that the emergence of the hunter has forced this group of people, who had opposing interests in the beginning, to work together. I need to find out more about this situation."

Orpheus seems to take a special interest in the role of the mysterious hunters, and decides to compile profiles for them as well. "The information on the hunter is key. I need to know what he wanted to do next - technique, patterns, disposition, traits...everything." Immersing himself in the entries, he is able to piece together a reconstruction from the hunter's perspective. Orpheus takes note of the objects the hunter uses. "...these thorns[1] were apparently used to protect things that he didn't want others to touch, or trap those he intended to trap. Even if someone wanted to try their luck, their location would surely be exposed because of the accompanying scream they let out when pricked. Simple, yet effective. I think the hunter must have used a pair of iron gloves to avoid being pricked by the thorns."

Coming to this conclusion, Orpheus looks at his own jagged scar on his left hand, and he is suddenly assaulted by flashes of memories. As if repulsed by his own appearance, he smashes his fist into the mirror beside him.

Scene Three - The Memory[]

Video of Scene Three

"Memories and emotions surged."

Returning to his senses after breaking the mirror, he re examines his hand with heavy breaths. "This scar...no..."

He interrupts himself. " I need to rest awhile...I'm exhausted."

Finding an armchair, he arranges himself in it. As he drifts off to sleep, he gathers what remains of his memories:

About ten years ago, I was found unconscious at the scene of a fire due to an accident. I wasn't injured, but when I woke up I realized I had lost my memory. It was with the help of others that I learned I was a fairly well-known writer of detective stories. But I could not recall a single memory, even when reading the words that were written by my own hand. Slowly my body recovered, but my memory showed no sign of returning. Fortunately, memory loss didn't occur again after that incident and I was simply content to live with this new identity.

Things rarely turn out as one hopes. I was quickly discarded by the public since I couldn't write anything of significance. The detective firm I started wasn't getting any worthwhile cases. I gave up on myself and turned to drink. I began having these episodes. After drinking heavily, I would wake up the next day with cuts all over my body, sometimes I would notice strange objects I would not normally use next to me. At first I chalked it up to alcohol-induced blackouts. But even after I sobered up, the situation persisted and there were no signs that the episodes would stop. It got worse and the episodes lasted longer and longer.

In the end I realized the root of the problem, at least, according to my neighbors. It wasn't memory loss, but another soul in my body that had awakened.

Orpheus wakes up, still thinking on his past. "I don't trust the other guy. Even now I don't know what he's done while I was asleep! But now, he has suddenly appeared, and said to me, 'Trust yourself'?! Of course I trust myself, but not him! I need to prepare for the worst. If HE really had something to do with this...I need to be able to prove my innocence! Who's gonna believe me when I say that two souls can exist in one body? This is not a time in history when people believe in things like witchcraft.

Scene Four - The Dislocation[]

Video of Scene Four

"Dislocated identities, dislocated bodies, dislocated souls. The dislocation of thyself. Perhaps these were all just coincidences. But there must be a contradictions. If the contradictions weren’t about me, then there must be someone else. And I have to find this mastermind."

"The person pulling the strings must be hidden among the survivors or hunters of the game."

Standing up from the chair, he walks over to the mirror for a moment. "Anyway, I need to get to the bottom of this on my own. And these diaries are the key. Sometimes, investigating a case is like fumbling your way along a rough, dark path. No one knows what strange 'treasures' will be dug up before the truth is revealed."

Returning to his investigation, he notices that the painting beside the bookshelves is upside-down. Removing the painting from the wall, he finds a strange spiral symbol. "This mark..."

Although he investigates the mark briefly, he soon returns to his investigation of the diaries, compiling character profiles with clues from them.
