Siegfried Mélodis, also known as Saphir Mélodis, is the adopted son of the renowned Mélodis Family, appearing at events under the alias "Noir". As "Noir", Siegfried carried out secret missions for the Mélodises and acted as a supporting antagonist in the Truth & Inference universe. At some point, "Noir" suffered amnesia in an accident, and adopted the alias Mr. White. He now works alongside Truth and Inference at the Orpheus Detective Agency.
Personality[]
Siegfried was an introvert as a child, one who was gentle, reticent, and prone to self-blame.[3] When he grew up, he seemed to have been trained strictly and showed great loyalty to the Mélodis Family (especially to his adoptive father, Salvatore), though he was still having doubts deep inside. After his memories vanished and he became "Mr. White", his attire seems to be more gentle and calm. "White" usually stays at the agency during the day to avoid appearing publicly. If he sees or gets in contact with anything that resembles Mélodis Family, he would get a light headache.
Background[]
Siegfried has two major roles in the story, under his conflicting identities of "Noir" and "White". It is unknown how his parents died. After being orphaned, he was sent to the same orphanage as Lady Truth, Mr. Inference, Paranormal Detective, and Anna. Not long after, he was adopted by the Mélodis Family and given the alias "Noir". During this time, he was strictly educated under Salvatore Mélodis and the butler Rogers. It is also noticeable that Siegfried's left eye was bandaged, but no information is given about its cause. Siegfried also has the ability to see the future, which he used to carry out secret missions for his family alongside his trusted owl companion Leon.
At some point, Siegfried had an incident and lost his memories, then went missing for a year before Lady Truth found him collapsed on a street. After being given a place to stay, he began working with Mr. Inference and Lady Truth (who don't recognize him and vice versa) at the Orpheus Detective Agency under the name of Mr. "White". During daytime and missions, he would disguise himself by wearing Mr. Inference's clothes and a pair of golden glasses.
Series Appearances[]
The costume itself has reappeared on many different series many times, either as "Event Specific", or "Related to Storyline". The list of reappearances is compiled here.
Manga and Light Novel series[]
- Pure White Prophet
- The Silent Rebel (As "Noir")
Trivia[]
- Siegfried's name was originally translated as "Saphir" in the art posted before his release. This name was also used on the box of his figure package.
- Siegfried's appearance and memory loss were caused by poisoning, with his symptoms including "blackouts, fever, hypopnea, bradycardia". These symptoms are similar to those of "Lily of the Valley" poisoning. Coincidentally, these flowers were planted a lot in the Mélodis Estate according to the novel Beneath the Truth.[4]
- Siegfried appeared as the captain of the Shadow Guard in Gatto's comic "The Silent Rebel" with a mission to steal Gatto's newest drug invention.
- Although he stayed in the orphanage for a short time, neither Mr. Inference nor Lady Truth can recall his appearance there. Even Mr. Inference only remembers his name vaguely from an acquaintance at the orphanage.
- His parents' death scene had a lot of similarity to the death of Bruce Wayne's parents (from the pose to the broken pearl necklace).
