The Identity Switch System is an Identity V game mechanic that sees characters be represented by two defining identities: their Hunter persona, and their Survivor persona. Originally where a certain character is playable in two forms: as a Hunter and as a Survivor. Some of these identities are playable in their respective factions, while others are only mentioned or shown in official material and in-game story.

Originally introduced during Time of Reunion in 2021, several characters have been officially implemented into the system since.

The developers have stated that it is not definite that an Identity Switch will always be the same person,[1] but insofar, this has been the case. It has also been stated that not all characters will have Identity Switches.

Background[]

These identities depict the character at different points in time in their recent life, as well as presenting heavily altered behaviors and appearances due to the usage of hallucinogenic drugs inside the Manor. The drugs are administered as part of experiments regarding specific groups of people, often united by certain traits or backgrounds of interest to the testers, and their effects vary depending on the purpose of the experiment or the type of drug administered.

The below article or section(s) contains speculation, analysis, or theories which may include unconfirmed information.
When adding content, use references to link or explain legitimate/official supportive evidence for specific theories, otherwise it may be removed.
  • The Entomologist was confirmed in a Q&A[2] to have a Hunter Identity Switch. She was depicted as a hunter in Time of Reunion - Go Hunting.
  • In Ashes of Memory II, it is implied that the Bloody Queen is Alice's drug-induced hallucination of Frederick Kreiburg.[3] As of now they are not officially listed in-game as Identity Switches to each other. However, it is possible that they will be given the Identity Switch mechanic in the future.
  • The Mind's Eye's 3rd Letter mentions that she fell into Sculptor's trap and became the only punisher in the "Control" Group, which implies that she may receive a Hunter Identity.
  • The Sculptor may have been survivor based on her and The Mind's Eye's letters. Her appearance in "Nightmare's" trailer alongside Identity Switch recipient Joker may imply she will receive a Survivor version.
  • The Feaster is implied to indirectly participate in his game through Arthur Byers, who was likely being controlled by The Feaster. In Hastur's Character Day Furniture, the shadow of what appears to be a survivor is visible. With hints that the shadow is Arthur's, this could be seen as evidence of him being Hastur's Identity Switch.
  • It is theorized that if Miles Donald were to become a survivor, that he would possibly be Geisha's Identity Switch.
  • In Axe Boy's 2023 letter, Dolores Whyte is mentioned to have gone on a rampage with an axe, Robbie's signature weapon. In Axe Boy's Character Day Furniture, the shadow behind him was in the form of Dolores. Some have taken this as evidence of her being his identity switch, though her exact role is unknown.
  • Despite being a Hunter, Soul Weaver's story does not reflect that she was a Hunter during her Manor Game, and that it was likely that she was hallucinated as a Hunter due to how she was disliked by the other participants in her group. This suggests that she could get a survivor version of herself in the future.
