Anna Ndlovu is the mother of Melly Plinius, the Entomologist.
Compiled Overview[]
Anna Ndlovu is a poor woman, married with a daughter, Melly. Anna and her husband live in a village with primarily farmers. They had no income method and relied on Melly to provide for them. Melly worked as a maid for a rich manor owner and would often send her parents whatever she could spare from her pay. Anna and her husband placed pressure on Melly to marry, hoping she can find someone who can treat her well. At some point during her servitude, Melly wrote a letter to her parents saying she was pursuing the owner. Anna wrote back to Melly, worrying over this news. She didn't seem to understand Melly sharing an interest in entomology with the owner, thinking that in order to gain his affection Melly needed to act a certain way. Anna expresses worry about Melly spending her time studying entomology instead of doing her job, worried that Melly would loose her job and therefore the family's source of income. Despite her worries, Anna hopes Melly can live the best life she can without sacrificing things. She ends the letter telling Melly that if she aims too high, Anna and her husband might not be able to help her.[1]
Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]
- Given Anna's last name is Ndlovu, it is likely that that is Melly's maiden name.
- Anna and her husband appear to be somewhat old fashioned, wanting Melly to get married and having an old fashioned idea of what a woman should be like.
