Camera World is an External Trait that belongs to the Photographer, Joseph Desaulniers. As an external trait, it is technically a passive ability that the character starts the game with, different from Abilities that Hunters earn by acquiring presence. Although the realm created by Camera World is a passive ability, it must be activated using the Cameras scattered around the map.

Trait Details[]

Description[]

After Joseph takes a photo with his camera, he can replicate the survivors and environment from that moment and create a static Camera World. After the Camera World collapses, half of the changes made within it will be projected onto the real world, and there will be a cooldown during which the camera cannot be used. Joseph can enter the Camera World at will to find the person from the photo and place them upon a rocket chair. While in the static Camera World, survivors cannot escape to the manor or be sent back there from rocket chairs; similarly, survivors in the real world can enter the Camera World through recorded images. Survivors who do this can decode cipher machines for progress but cannot decode them completely. Those in the Camera World will not apply team buffs or debuffs to survivors

Gameplay[]

A number of cameras will be set up on the map when starting a match with Photographer. He is able to walk up and interact with these cameras, which will take a picture of the entire map and everyone on it. Each entity (except for the Photographer) and its current status will then be replicated into a separate realm, which can be reached by entering one of the projected pictures of light from the cameras. This Camera World will last for 60 seconds, and there is a cooldown afterwards where camera's cannot be used for a period. Entities projected in the Camera World:

  • Survivors (and their current state of damage)
  • Cipher Machines (and their current state of decoding progress)
  • Pallets (and whether they have been dropped/destroyed)

After a certain amount of time, the camera world will end, and the average status of each entity will be balanced. General rule of thumb is that HALF of any progress/damage will carry over to the real world after it ends. More specifically, the end of the Camera World effects each entity in the following way:

  • If a Survivor's Camera World replica is damaged, half of it will carry over to the real survivor character.
    • For example, if their Camera World replica is at 1/2 damage, 1/4 of that damage will carry over to the actual survivor.
    • A Survivor can ONLY be downed at the end of a Camera World if their replica was still in a Rocket Chair by the end.
  • Each Cipher Machine and its Camera World replica will average its total decoding progress.
    • For example, if a Cipher Machine is decoded to 50% and its camera image is left untouched, the Cipher Machine will average to 25% by the end.
    • Replicated Cipher Machines can be decoded, and this will affect the average.
    • Completed Cipher Machines will no longer be affected by their replica. Replicated ones cannot be completed.
  • Pallets only have three states: Undropped, Dropped, and Destroyed. At the end of each Camera World period, all pallets will stay in their state found in the real world, even if they were dropped/destroyed in the Camera World.

General Notes[]

  • Certain survivor abilities will not work within the Camera world. While within the realm: Painter cannot place any Canvases, Mechanic cannot use her Controller, Explorer cannot find treasure (though he can shrink) with his Book
  • The Photographer can see the aura of the Camera closest to him.
  • Actions that usually result in audio or visual prompts will not be carried over between realms.
    • Includes: Teleport notification to survivors, failed calibrations (to hunter), fast vaulting noise (to hunter), or when a teammate is attacked or chaired (to survivors)
  • Replicated survivors cannot be brought into the real world.
    • Downed Survivors (real ones) can be picked up inside of the Camera World and dropped into the real one, if luck is on the player's side.

Other Details[]

Hunter Tips

  • Due to Joseph having a weak chase, as his movement speed is average to below average and his hitbox is somewhat shorter than other hunters, he relies heavily on his Camera World to catch survivors, or at least injure them enough that they are only 1 hit.
  • As most survivors hide when against a Photographer, it is important to know where to look, such as common hiding spots, how to use the mini-map radar, as well as learning spawn locations of survivors on each map.
  • Photographer is generally stronger on smaller maps such as Red Church or Arms Factory, which have cameras closer together and also near Cipher Machines. Smaller maps also make it easier to find hiding survivors.
  • Photographer's Camera World naturally counters a variety of characters using Camera World, depending on how he is played.
    • Decoding progress is severely decreased each time a Camera World is activated and ends, so long as the Cipher Machines are not completed.
    • Survivor replicas are static to doing whatever they were doing at the time of the photo. So, as long as he can find their replica in the realm within the 60 seconds after a picture is taken Contain type characters are easy to injure and/or down by putting them in a Rocket Chair.
      • For example, Stunner characters' replicas will not stun to protect themselves, allowing Photographer to incapacitate and chair them. This allows him to pick them up at realm's end without ever having to go into a chase or be stunned.
      • If Embalmer is chaired, and a photo is taken before his Rebirth ability is completed, his replica will still be in the Rocket Chair in the Camera World.
  • In general, it is important for this hunter to activate a camera and Camera World as soon as possible, as even if you aren't good at finding Camera World replicas, it severely increases the time and effort survivors have to put towards decoding.
    • Throughout the match it is best to continue to keep using the cameras to cut into decoding speed.
      • Most Photographers wait until they catch and chair a survivor to take another picture, in order to automatically down a character soon after their rescue.
      • Camera World can also be used during chases, to damage or incapacitate survivors who are taking too much time to catch up to, as their replica will not run away.
  • Photographer is able to "jumpscare" survivors by walking between real and camera realms, though this is easier to do when Recorded Moment is unlocked.

Survivor Tips

  • It is advised to hide at the start of a match when playing against Photographer - cameras will be scattered across the map and visible to survivors, and teammates will send a Quick Message along the words of "Get out of Here" or "Run".
  • Doctor, Barmaid, and "Psychologist" are the only survivors able to heal partial damage, such as when the Camera World ends or by Photographer's passive Spacetime trait.
    • If the team has neither of these characters, there is still a way to heal them by making use of Camera World. If a character and their replica both have 3/4 damage, heal the real-world one, wait for the picture to end, then you can heal them again. (3/4 damage > 1/4 damage > Camera World ends > 1/2 damage)
    • If a survivor is at half-health when a photo is taken, it is possible to prime the heal. Assuming no more damage is taken by both the survivor and their mirror image, another survivor can heal someone at half-health, but not fully. When the camera world collapses, you can finish healing them quickly and they will be back to full health.
  • Perfumer's Euphoria can also be used to undo damage projected from the Camera World. However, the timing must be precise and right before each world ends for this to work.
  • Mechanic or The Mind's Eye, with "Prisoner"'s support, is able to finish a Cipher Machine within the timeframe of the Camera World (60 seconds).
    • During the time that the Camera World is active, survivors should work together to finish ciphers if possible, as the progress will be reduced severely if the cipher is not finished. This is one of the few times decoding with a teammate is acceptable.
  • Cowboy is able to Lasso any replicas that are standing out in the open, keeping them from being easy prey for a Photographer.
  • In general, it is best to be chased within the Camera World (depending on which character you are), as Pallets can be used without using them up in the real world.
  • When on Last Effort from Tide Turner, it is best to go down in the Camera World as the Hunter will not be able to put you on the Rocket Chair immediately, buying time for your teammates.
  • Try and rescue mirror images from chairs if the hunter changes targets; assuming the kiter does not go down, this will prevent them from being incapacitated right in front of the hunter.
    • If a survivor gets downed while their mirror image is still chaired, do not rescue; as it is a waste of time. The camera world reflects the real world, not the other way around. In other words, rescuing a chaired mirror image will not pick up an already downed real survivor.
  • Survivors can hide in a locker when the Photographer takes a picture, and the Photographer will be unable to find their Mirror Image.

Trivia[]

  • As this gameplay doubles the amount of entities and progress, greatly complicating how a match goes, it is likely one of the reasons Photographer is not available in alternate gamemodes such as Duo Hunters, Blackjack or Tarot.
