Identity V Wiki

A chest in Identity V is a box that can hold certain items. They have set locations on every map, and are commonly against a wall or obstacle. There will always be a chest found in the Basement.

There are characters with talents that help in opening/getting desired items from chests as well.

Appearance[]

Chests are small red boxes with grey latches. They have empty insides once opened.

Map Alternate Chest Reskins[]

Leo's Memory[]

In Leo's Memory, the chests are rectangular present boxes wrapped in red wrapping paper patterned with a bow on top. Nestled inside the bow is a small snowman sitting atop a collection of Christmas baubles and holly leaves. When opened, blue and yellow strings of confetti burst out from the chest along with the player's acquired item.

Halloween Red Church[]

In Red Church (Halloween), the chests are changed to Jack-o-Lantern pumpkins with glowing cross-stitched button carvings as eyes and a carved triangle nose. On the top of each pumpkin are assorted candles with wax dripping down onto the chest. When opened, assortments of candy such as taffy and lollipops are revealed to be inside each chest, and the chest's eyes will dim but the insides will glow when survivors search through the contents.

Edward's Wish[]

In Edward's Wish, the chests are metallic turquoise chests with iron and steel bolts.

Crossover Alternate Chest Reskins[]

McDonald's and Meituan Takeout Crossover

During the McDonald's and Meituan Takeout Crossover, chests in all maps were changed to mimic McDonald's x Meituan Takeout Boxes, with yellow lids with the black Meituan Takeout symbol painted on the top of the chest and red bases with McDonald's golden 'M' painted on the right side of the chest. The latches remain the same.

Gameplay[]

Overview[]

Chests are useful only to characters with replaceable items. Characters who cannot swap their items out and/or characters who have items that recharge over time will be able to open chests as well as receive deduction points from opening chests but cannot use the items found, and therefore opening chests as a character with an exclusive item that cannot be exchanged is not recommended.

When hit by a Hunter during opening or closing a chest, Survivors will be Terror Shocked. The standard time for opening and searching through a chest is 10 seconds. If a Thief is present in the match or the character selected is Toy Merchant, opening a chest takes 5 seconds. It will take 6.25 seconds if the character selected is Lucky Guy. The fastest possible chest opening is a Lucky Guy with a Thief on the team, at 4 seconds.

Spawning[]

A chest will always spawn in the Basement. Besides the Basement chest, all the other spawns of chest on a map are predetermined. The majority of the maps have 8 chests: Red Church, Sacred Heart Hospital, White Sand Street Asylum, Lakeside Village, Moonlit River Park, Leo's Memory, and Kreiburg Racecourse. The rest have fewer. There are 7 chests found in Golden Cave. There are 6 chests found in Eversleeping Town and Darkwoods. There are 5 chests found in Arms Factory and Chinatown.

Obtainable Items[]

Any item not exclusive to a character can be found in a chest. A chest can hold the following items, each with specific spawn chances.

Item Original Wielder Uses Available/Time Available Durability When Obtained Spawn Chance
Syringe Doctor 1-2 uses, 60 seconds Full 30% (Very Common)
Toolkit Gardener 4.5 uses, 15 seconds Full Legacy
Flashlight Thief 45 seconds Half Legacy
Map Lawyer 28-30 seconds Full Legacy
Flare Gun Coordinator 1 use N/A (One-time use item) 3% (Rare)

Legacy (Rank Match)

Travel Journals Explorer 45 seconds Full Legacy
Elbow Pad Mercenary 1 use N/A (One-time use item) 25% (Very Common)
Euphoria Perfumer 1 use N/A (One-time use item) 14% (Common)
Magic Wand Magician 1 use N/A (One-time use item) 14% (Common)
Rugby Ball Forward 4-5 seconds Half 6% (Uncommon)
Controller Mechanic 30 seconds Half 8% (Uncommon)
Poseidon Watch First Officer 1 use N/A (One-time use item) 3% (Rare)

These spawn chances were tested in Custom Single Training Mode, with Mercenary used as the survivor to open chests. A total of 100 chests were opened, and each result is a corresponding percentage converted from the test results. It would help the wiki greatly if this experiment could be repeated many more times at regular intervals to ensure the accuracy of the results collected!

Character Traits[]

Certain external traits and persona traits will affect chests:

External Traits[]

  • Lucky Guy - Lucky Guy's trait, lets him choose which item he will get and increases his chest opening speed by 100%, allows him to see nearby chests
  • Lock Pick - Thief's trait, increases all survivors chest-opening speed by 100%
  • Mad Collector - Toy Merchant's trait, increases her chest opening speed by 100%

Recommended Characters[]

Characters who can utilize chests' Tools in matches are listed below. Any character with consumable items is recommended to use open chests when they run out.

  • Lucky Guy - His ability relies on chests and he has a chest-opening speed boost.
  • Thief - His passive ability allows him and his teammates to open chests 100% faster, once out of flashlight durability it is advised to open a chest and search for a different item. His ability can be stacked with Lucky Guy's for a 200% faster chest opening.
  • Gardener - Though her Toolkit is useful in aiding her teammates to struggle out of hunters' grasps or to ward off crows later in the match, many players choose to swap it out for something else to make containing hunters easier.
  • Magician - Although Magician starts with 3 Decoys, they are used quickly during kites and players may have to open a chest for an item.
  • Mercenary - Although he starts each match with 3 Elbow Pads, they are easily depleted throughout the match during rescues and players may have to resort to opening chests for other items.
  • Coordinator - As soon as her Flare Gun is fired, she will no longer have anything to defend herself with and therefore searching through a chest is a must.
  • Mechanic - If Mechanic's doll is depleted mid-game, she will be forced to open a chest to find an item to defend herself with. However, losing her doll before at least 3-4 ciphers are finished is not recommended.
  • Forward - After Forward's Rugby Ball is depleted, opening a chest would aid him in rescuing his teammates.
  • Perfumer - Vera only has three bottles of Euphoria, and is expected to use them all; therefore she must search through a chest for a new item once all three bottles are depleted.
  • Female Dancer - After all three music boxes are broken, Margaretha will no longer have anything to help her contain hunters with.
  • Painter - After his two canvases are used, he will no longer have an item to help contain the hunter with.
  • Toy Merchant - Her Soothing Toy trait allows her to carry up to 3 items. Although she cannot use them herself, they can be thrown to teammates to support them.
  • Patient - After his three Grappling Hooks are used, he will no longer have an item to help contain the hunter with.
  • Weeping Clown - After his three Rockets are used, he will no longer have an item to help contain the hunter with.
  • Antiquarian - After all of Mechanical Flute uses are used, she will no longer have an item to help contain the hunter with.
  • Journalist - After her three Cameras are used, she will no longer have an item to help contain the hunter with.
  • Aeroplanist - After his Jetpacks are used, he will no longer have an item to help contain the hunter with.
