Christina, also known as Belinda[2], is Philippe's younger sister. Her dead body, encased in wax, is grafted onto Philippe's left side.

Appearance[]

Christina is a tall, slender young woman with pale skin, slightly wavy brown hair tumbling down her shoulders and back, and green eyes framed by long lashes. She wears a simple white dress with short puffed sleeves, over which she wears a brown apron when working.

Compiled Overview[]

Philippe and Christina were siblings. Their mother was a maid, but one day after going to work she fell off the top of the building and died. The siblings were left compensation and were warned to not look into her death or believe any rumors.[4]

As they grew older, both siblings became known for their wax art, and held an exhibition together of wax sculptures based on criminals that was very successful.[5] At some point Philippe became fascinated with the pseudoscience of physiognomy, which was the idea that a person's outer appearance and physical characteristics, mainly faces, could be used to determine their character and personality. Determined to create a career combining both his artistry and the assessment of a person's criminal potential based on their features, an unexpected encounter allowed him to travel and spread his theories and research. As such, he was able to discover many "criminals" who were judged despite their assertions of being innocent, which made Philippe their target of hatred.

Christina didn't accompany him as he left with only a single note left for her, in which her brother mentions that she is not ready for such a journey, and she needs to improve on her wax skills before he will return for her.[6]

Not long after Philippe's journey across the overseas, Followers of the Eye of Darkness had broke into their workshop and murdered Christina.[3] Upon his return home to Christina, he found her dead in a vat of wax, and a message written on the wall to blame him for his failures.[7] Filled with guilt and regret and believing he should have taken his ideals "into his own hands", Philippe threw himself into his art, and began to create even more lifelike statues, sculpted in the appearance of criminals.

After the incident, Philippe, plagued with insurmountable guilt and remorse, encased Christina's dead body in wax, and grafted her onto his left side, as a way to repent.[8] Eventually, he forgets her name, only knowing that it is his sister on his shoulder.[1]

Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]

  • It is unknown if Christina also studied physiognomy with Philippe, or only worked as a wax artist and saw his work as art.
  • It is theorized that the name Philippe refers to Christina as, Belinda, is the name of their mother.
  • In Amanda's Backstory Trailer, it is implied that she is directly responsible for Christina's death as she handed a group of followers a map to locate their workshop's address and took Christina away from Philippe to teach him a lesson for trying to get "Dogma" killed.
