This page is a compilation of lore and story content for this character.
Backstory[]
Character Introduction[]
A cowboy from North America who befriended a young girl from a native American tribe when he was younger and learned how to use the lasso. Many years later, he was saved by the native Americans when he suffered misfortune and the passionate Kevin Ayuso remained with the tribe. But good things never last and the tribe died out. He didn't want to stay, so he decided to roam the European continent.[6]
Chinese Character Introduction[]
Kevin was born in a remote town in the western United States. When he was young, he became friends with a little girl from an Indian tribe. After losing contact, Kevin was rescued by the clan leader. Due to the conflict between the US military and the tribe, Kevin took the initiative to say goodbye in order to prevent the clan leader from getting into a dilemma. After leaving behind all the belongings he had accumulated, Kevin started wandering again with only the noose left to him by the girl when he was young.[7][8]
Character Relations Menu[]
An adventurous cowboy from America, Kevin once lived among a mysterious Native American tribe, thus developing amazing lasso skills.
Kevin owed his life to the tribe for saving him once during a near-fatal accident.[9] Throughout his time living among them, he witnessed the barbarity of those on a mission to "civilize the world" and experienced the helpless decline of native culture. He ultimately chose to journey to Europe instead of remaining in a land of painful contradictions.
Deduction Quests[]

Dear [Player Name], (2019)[]
Now that you have fulfilled my commission, why don't you hear about this wanderer's confession.
Just like two travelers lighting a fire under the starry sky, sitting across from each other and telling each other their story in the vast wilderness.
Angelina described it to me once and I've finally seen it:
I've seen the bison herd dashing across a plain. Members of the Su clan[TN 1] followed the totems in their heart and moved across America, chasing the sunset.
I've also seen skinned bison bodies on a plain, covered in bullet holes. Even wild wolves wouldn't touch their meat.
I can't stop "civilization" from expanding, and I don't have the courage to fight for the justice of their survival.
My parents gave me life, yet I chose to run away from my home.
Angelina trusted me, yet I didn't protect her.
The Chief and his wife took care of me, yet I didn't repay their kindness. I didn't even return their daughter's keepsake - cowboys from the farm targeted the Indians' hunting ground, while wandering cowboys took away an old couple's last remembrance of their daughter.
Angelina, Angelina please forgive me.
I am still the lost boy you knew.
But I'll never give up the freedom you introduced me to:
Champion of the clan, run with the bison,
dance with the wolf, fly higher than the eagle.
――Kevin Ayuso's Confession
Kevin's Manor Diary (2020)[]
The third night
"Who's going to drink the poison?" This endless argument was getting ugly. Those two who bragged about coming from a "civilized society" were just like two dumb oxen huffing and puffing at those they don't like. They were also both really selfish. When there were things they didn't understand or were unwilling to understand, they'd just get scared and push them aside―peculiar costumes, witchcraft spells...and a girl from a different clan who had left home.
Even if it was a coincidence, I wouldn't let the same thing happen twice.
Why didn't I come forward sooner? Why did I let her think that was one of those in-group cowards? Why did I allow myself to--that damn game! So that's the evilness that lies in it.
Turned out I was just a stubborn coward. Who was I to talk about a cowboy's poise or a champion's spirit?
...
I'd never forgotten, Angelina... a clan hero whom you would look up to must be worthy of epic poems and songs.
I tried my best.
This despicable monologue was all I could manage.
I witnessed all sorts of injustice and tried not to be affected, but I couldn't let it go.
...I wish I had a chance to forgive myself.
Perhaps...that poison was just a test?

Serial No. 5-?-4
Name: Kevin Ayuso
[Test Indicators]
1. Self-denial
2. Moral extremism
3. Emotional impulsivity
[Inclinations]
A coward boasting about freedom while being trapped by his own guilt.
[Test Results] (Partial)
1. Overall Evaluation:
No. 5-?-4 did not participate in the "game" as planned. However, his premature exit became a "catalyst" that sped up progress of the experiment.
2. Procedure:
Seeing through No. 5-?-4's established cognitive process is simple enough; one needs only to manipulate his guilty conscience and moral extremism to do so. Thus, he was considered a reliable and controllable variable for the experiment.
However, placing No. 5-?-4 and No. 5-?-5 in the same experiment group was a risky decision, albeit a creative one. Contact between the two developed sensibly, yet in quite an unexpected direction. Considering No. 5-?-4's refusal to participate in the "game," my observations of him are partial in nature. However, this led to yet another revelation on my part—It appears the "game" may not require the participation of every subject involved.
3. Partial Summary:
No. 5-?-4's social behaviors are worthy of mention. Throughout the experiment, No. 5-?-4 exhibited vastly different biases toward female and male participants.
No. 5-?-4 is highly protective of females, irrespective of race, status, or viewpoints. His "altruistic behavior" towards members of the opposite sex far exceeds what is considered normal. Considering his personal history, I believe he is projecting his guilt over a past partner onto the other females. Furthermore, his over-protectiveness can be interpreted as his way of preventing his past trauma from reoccurring (this was most evident from his interactions with No. 5-?-5 in the latter part of the experiment). His behavior can be understood as a form of psychological self-preservation.
No. 5-?-4's negative attitude toward males is relatively complicated. On the surface, it seems to be an exaggerated competitiveness with members of the same sex. However, it also seems to originate from self-perceived cowardice and selfishness, which in turn arose from the aforementioned adolescent trauma. He often projected these negative perceptions onto the other males. For example, he would disregard the appearances, attitudes, and stances of his male counterparts, and compare them to wolves, cows, eagles, horses, and other familiar animals based entirely on their words and actions. He would then demean them by calling them despicable, brutish, cowardly, etc... before attacking them. The immaturity of his biased behavior borders on the childish.
In other words, when conflict arose between a male and a female, he would subconsciously treat the female as the person who needs protecting (much like in his past) and the male as the "helpless" boy with whom he once identified.
In this sense, he will always be trapped by his own guilt.

A Record Stained with Wine (2022)[]
On the final night in the Manor:
I finally completed my commission to repair the racecourse, and it's almost time to say goodbye... The warrior who yearns for freedom shall continue on his adventure.
A life of comfort has made me lazy. The vast wilderness, herds of wild horses... These beautiful memories of the past have started to fade.
On the eve of my departure, the owner of the Manor held a sumptuous banquet and bade farewell to me. He had even been rather concerned about my health throughout the last two weeks.
But amid the toasting and chatting, I often found myself inadvertently touching the old calluses on my palm while enduring the headache that I hadn't been able to shake off for days, and I kept having the feeling that I'd lost something I once held tight.
Perhaps it was my fear of burying the past that made me open up my heart to the new friend sitting before me.
...
The conversation began with the Carnival Games two weeks ago — those two absolutely ungentlemanly guys were incessantly pressuring a foreign girl! Their endless bickering gave me a headache... Expelling them from the Manor was the only way to uphold the code of a cowboy and the spirit of a warrior.
...
Speaking of my life in the tribe, I was unable to discern the details of the past. The expansion of "civilization," the axiom of the few... But knowing that I was here enjoying a life of leisure, I felt at ease, at least temporarily — the conflicts and disputes had probably been resolved.
...
I couldn't help but wallow in my longing for Angelina when speaking about my loved ones. Although her flustered and innocent face when facing that raging buffalo had faded from my memory... When he noticed my hesitance toward recollecting that memory, the owner of the Manor uncharacteristically asked me if she was still alive. He even ignored my unhappy silence and pried, trying to force an answer out of me. Shattered glasses, overturned silverware, shaking figures... It wasn't until I expressed my desire to leave that he realized how rude he'd been. After repeated apologies, he returned to his polite self, then nodded with satisfaction and went on listening to the story.
Maybe it was the alcohol, but the occasional headaches I experienced in the last few days were alleviated quite a bit. However, everything I said grew increasingly blurry in my mind — the foreign girl who left safely... the tribe that regained its peace and stability... Angelina waved at me with a smile on her face, waiting for me to come home...
Letting my thoughts run wild is pointless. After all, I'm setting off once I wake up in the morning.
Kevin Ayuso: Investigation FieldNotes[sic] I (2024)[]
There are few mentions of this manor in Kevin Ayuso's file. His life, marked by tumultuous experiences and deep emotions, was inextricably linked to a new continent across the ocean. His time in Europe, along with the records of his life at the manor, feels like an echo of a bygone era. Perhaps this is due to his unintentional actions, which did not directly interfere with the core conflicts affecting the visitors who arrived at the manor alongside him, yet indirectly influenced their behavior later on. This stands in stark contrast to the reputation he built during his travels in Europe. The cowboy, infused with the cultural flair of the Americas, was often the subject of conversation, and many employers pleaded for him to stay due to his exceptional skills. However, Kevin Ayuso never remained on any farm or ranch for long; he would leave whenever winter arrived. Many wondered what kind of bountiful pasture or extraordinary horse it would take to convince him to stay.
At first, I was intrigued by the origin of Kevin Ayuso, the so-called "famous cowboy." After he arrived at the manor, I combined the information I had gathered earlier with the files available here, which gave me a more detailed understanding of Kevin Ayuso and the psychological changes that weren't fully captured in his official records.
...
Kevin Ayuso
In my view, the traits of "moral extremism" and "emotional impulsivity," as described in Kevin Ayuso's file, were deeply intertwined with his "self-denial," a characteristic that was also emphasized in the file. It became clear to me that his childhood experiences had a substantial influence on shaping him. Kevin Ayuso lived his life as though it were a fairytale, always praying for a happy ending.
A person's story often begins in childhood, and Kevin Ayuso's was no different. His early understanding of the world came through exploring the grasslands, rivers, and caves around him. The wind on the open plains seemed to nurture his young spirit. Although others have moved into the Ayuso family's old house, some of their neighbors still remain. During my visit, they immediately remembered the healthy, happy little boy who used to run around outside. He was full of curiosity about the world and eager to explore it. At a time when the exploratory movement had a strong influence in St. Louis, these neighbors believed that had it not been for the accident, Kevin would have eventually joined the westward expansion and development efforts as an adult.
The incident that marked a fundamental change in Kevin Ayuso's life was not widely discussed. However, thanks to a good friend of mine at the St. Louis police department, I was able to review some files from the local militia. Using the information from the manor, I pieced together what had happened to Kevin in his youth.
"Early spring, Mr. and Mrs. Ayuso claimed an award of 50 US dollars based on proof." The text was simple and understated, but it left much bloodshed unspoken under the word "proof." The withdrawal record didn't mention the young lady's name, but I have little doubt that Kevin Ayuso would never forget her.
Many people entertain thoughts of running away from home during childhood or adolescence, but Kevin Ayuso didn't merely entertain the idea—he acted on it. For over a decade of wandering and growing up, aside from the occasional exchange of letters, he never returned home. This speaks to the impulsive nature of Kevin Ayuso: when his emotions reached a tipping point, they pushed him into action. Unlike others who might later regret their decisions, Kevin was willing to accept the consequences without hesitation.
As Kevin Ayuso's family began acquiring cattle and sheep, they entered a cycle of accumulating wealth—a cycle that, ironically, may not have been entirely positive for him. Over time, the family's growing prosperity became a reminder of their undeniable culpability for Kevin Ayuso. It's difficult to say whether this sense of entrapment played a role in his decision to run away from home. The conflicting pressures of family obligations and personal freedom likely pushed Kevin to exile himself to the very place where his story—once symbolizing freedom—had unfolded. It was perhaps during this time that Kevin started to develop a tendency toward self-denial, as he felt powerless to resolve the issues at hand. Yet, even as he struggled with this internal conflict, other distractions diverted his attention, even though his livelihood was inevitably tied to a painful past he couldn't escape.
The vast grasslands nurtured countless lives and welcomed every visitor. This was likely the period when Kevin Ayuso truly began to connect with the land. He wasn't too busy with farm work, so he had more free time to engage in social activities. This might have been Kevin's way of diverting his attention, and it also facilitated my own investigation.
I had no trouble finding a coworker who had gone out drinking with Kevin Ayuso. When I visited him at home, he was dressed in a cape and high leather boots beneath his chaps. Even without a whip or pistol in hand, he looked every bit the cowboy.
This man, named Hank, was very talkative. He shared a detailed account of Kevin Ayuso's time on the farm and did his best to recall their private exchanges outside of work. According to him, the rancher had hired Kevin for his exceptional workmanship. While he wasn't the only skilled worker, Kevin's consistency and reliability set him apart—he never disappeared because of a woman, nor did he let drinking interfere with his responsibilities. In addition to managing the cattle and sheep, the rancher often tasked Kevin with finding lost animals, a job he performed quickly and efficiently. This earned him much attention and many invitations to social gatherings.
"We went out for drinks together, but I'll tell you, Kevin would keep to himself sometimes," Hank said with a shrug. When I pressed for more details, he described how Kevin differed from others: the men would gather around the bonfire, play simple tunes on his instruments, or sing songs without accompaniment, all while enjoying the night breeze and the warmth of the fire. These gatherings were a rare chance for people to relax and boast about their past deeds.
Kevin Ayuso would drink with the others but rarely joined in their boasting. He kept his past a secret and didn't encourage storytelling, which made him seem boring to others. During one particular gathering, where stories of encounters with the natives were being shared, Kevin nearly got into a fight with the storyteller. After that, many of the others no longer wanted him around for these so-called bonfire tales.
I suspect Hank didn't go into more detail about the story because it might not have been particularly "native-friendly." At that time, Kevin was grappling with a deep sense of shame and a strong moral code. His reactions to criticism and scrutiny weren't limited to himself; they extended to those around him. Because of his character, he rarely held back.
Since Hank didn't mention anything negative about Kevin Ayuso regarding the incident, I asked him if he went out drinking with Kevin after that. Hank smiled and said no. By then, it was winter, and soon after, he heard that one of the farm owner's sheep had escaped through a fence that had been blown open by the wind. The weather was worsening, and a snowstorm seemed imminent. It wasn't considered worthwhile to go searching for just one sheep in such conditions.
When the farm owner selected someone to go after the sheep, those who didn't particularly like Kevin recommended him. For some reason, he accepted the task. Just hours after Kevin left, the snowstorm hit, and the world outside blurred into a vast white expanse. Hank recalled clearly that it was the heaviest snowfall of the winter.
Even after the snow stopped, neither the sheep nor Kevin Ayuso ever returned.
From the manor's files, I know this was the event during which Kevin was rescued by the chief and taken back to the clan. The cultural environment on the farm was similar to that of the grasslands but not identical. Perhaps it was here that Kevin began to realize how difficult it would be for him alone to change the prevailing cultural climate. After being rescued a second time, guilt and gratitude drove him to make amends to Angelina's people, elevating this act from a mere choice to an overwhelming sense of obligation.
However, when civilizations clash, whether due to differing ideals or material interests, resolution is nearly impossible. Kevin's efforts to salvage the situation ultimately proved fruitless. Perhaps this is why, later at the manor, Kevin resorted to more direct and radical methods to protect that girl from another clan. Among the individual visitors, his protection and sacrifice were immediate and not overshadowed by a larger, more complex context.
On my last day in St. Louis, I visited the site where they used to gather around the bonfire. The visit was neither a success nor a failure: from the surroundings, I was fairly certain I was at the right place, but the land had since been degraded, and houses for mineral exploration now stood where the grasslands once stretched.
There would be no more bonfires here.

Compiled Overview[]
Backstory[]
Kevin was raised on a ranch in St. Louis from an early age and was responsible for the cattle's grazing. He would explore the nature around his family's ranch, which Kevin's neighbors at the time had noticed. One winter, an ox kicked him out of the barn and into the snow,[16] but a young Native American girl rescued him. Kevin brought her in and learned her name—Angelina. Angelina regarded Kevin as a friend, and taught him lasso techniques. Soon after, Kevin's parents told him they would return Angelina to the reserve. The two said goodbye and Angelina gifted her lasso rope to Kevin.
However, during this time a bounty was raised which promised money for the lives of Natives. His parents ended up exchanging Angelina's life for the bounty of 50 USD instead of returning her to the reserve like they had told Kevin.[17] Once Kevin found out about the terrible truth, he made the decision to leave his household.
Several years later, Kevin worked for a man named Hank at his farm. During a night of drinking around a bonfire with other farmers and ranchers, one of them told a "non-native friendly" story that angered Kevin, leading to an altercation that led to most other ranchers not liking him. One day, Kevin was sent to find one of Hank's missing sheep. During this, a snowstorm arrived, and he was taken in by a Native American tribe. The tribe chief recognized the lasso Kevin owned as belonging to his daughter Angelina. Filled with guilt, Kevin was unable to tell Angelina's father what had actually happened. Tensions between colonists and Native Americans for land continued, and the Native Americans Kevin had been staying with were found and were getting attacked more and more frequently.[18]
Kevin left a farewell letter and all his funds to the tribe chief, taking off towards the European continent with nothing but his beloved lasso.
Events at the Manor[]
Kevin was a participant in Group 5's Manor Game, along with Edgar Valden, "Vera Nair", Jose Baden, Patricia Dorval and a special item in the experiment, which is an umbrella containing the souls of Xie Bi'an and Fan Wujiu. The entire progress of the experiment is not yet fully revealed. However, according to Kevin's Experimental File and his final record in the Manor, it is most likely that he escaped the Manor in First Stage, and had his memories erased by drugs. His "premature exit" was also said to have sped up the progress of the experiment he once participated in.[19][20]
Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]
- He is possibly of Latino or Hispanic descent due to the origins of his name.
- Certain theorists believe that the reward bounty mentioned in the deductions is part of the 1862 American Homestead Act[21], though this has no basis in history. However, bounties and rewards for killing Native Americans did exist, and there are multiple historic instances of rewards given for killing Native Americans through a process known as "scalping".[22]
- He will most likely not receive a Hunter Equivalent under the Identity Switch Mechanic due to his status as a "Left Early" Survivor. Not all playable characters will get an Identity Switch Equivalent according to developers.[23]
- Angelina's name being European could be due to the influence of local settlers. Historically, indigenous people would take on "European" names in order to communicate with settlers more easily.
- It also may have been a name that Kevin bestowed her with: he often calls her "the Indian girl" and does not name other members of her tribe or her parents.
- The racecourse that was mentioned in Kevin's fourth letter could possibly be Kreiburg Racecourse.
- In the current storyline, Kevin is the only person to have fully escaped from the Manor during the experiment's early phase without facing any punishment nor receiving any re-invitations from the Manor after his escape.

- ↑ According to Kevin's Christmas Nocturne Event dialogue, Angelina first met and saved his life after he was kicked by an Ox.
- ↑ According to Kevin's Christmas 2020 dialogue, he wasn't sure his parents turning in Angelina in for a bounty was an accident or on purpose, as he states that for a "moment on that day at least, they must have considered her their own daughter."
- ↑ Kevin claims in Deduction #8 that he "did not reveal the tracks of everyone. I am not a spy!", but it seems the tribe was not fully convinced by this claim.
- ↑ See Cowboy's 2021 Letter: "1. Overall Evaluation: No. 5-?-4 didn't participate in the "game" as planned. Yet his premature exit became a "catalyst" and sped up the progress of the experiment."
- ↑ See Cowboy's 2022 Letter: "Letting my thoughts run wild is pointless. After all, I'm setting off once I wake up in the morning."
- ↑ The American Homestead Act was basically a law that allowed any American (including freed slaves) to claim land in certain regions and call it their own without having to pay massive fines for it. This encouraged western expansion and is still considered a revolutionary idea to this day, but it was not as positive an act as people thought it would be. First of all, the "empty" lands that were targeted by this act were inhabited by communities of Native Americans, and this act pushed them out of their trails, pastures, and homelands. Second of all, although this act was meant to help those in poverty, it was not effective there either, as those in poverty did not have the resources to even thrive on the land they were able to claim. - Further information on this can be found here: https://www.nps.gov/home/learn/historyculture/native-americans-and-the-homestead-act.htm
- ↑ Since 1641, bounty rewards were given to those who killed Native Americans. To prove the kill was legitimate, they would present the scalp (the skin from the top of the head) of the victim to exchange for the money, hence the term "scalping." Translation Notes[]
- ↑ "Su" is a mistranslation of the Sioux, a group of Native American tribes in North America. In the Chinese version of the letter, they are called 苏族, which translates to Sioux.
Manor Game Table References[]
- ↑ Wu Chang's 2022 Letter confirms the location as Lakeside Village.
- ↑ First Officer's 2022 Letter implies that an Executioner was present in this Manor Game, monitoring Jose’s mental state specifically. However, this direct confirmation remains unclear.
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 3.2 3.3 See Enchantress's 2022 Letter.
- ↑ 4.0 4.1 In Painter's 2024 Letter, it is stated that Edgar was willing to let himself be sacrificed by Patricia and mentions his "swan song".
- ↑ 5.0 5.1 5.2 In First Officer's 2023 Letter seemingly implies that Edgar, Vera, and Jose finished their Manor Game. But as Edgar is implied to be dead from his 2024 Letter those were likely Jose's delusions.
- ↑ 6.0 6.1 In Wu Chang's 2022 Letter, it appears First Officer was affected by the umbrella in some way, however it is currently unknown what happened as a result.
- ↑ It should be noted Wu Chang's serial number is referring to their umbrella.
- ↑ Based on the current information given by Wu Chang's 2022 Letter, it is known that the Manor used the power of Wu Chang's umbrella to affect on First Officer in some way, rather than using the duo as a hunter in the Game.
- ↑ Enchantress's 2023 Birthday Questions state that Cowboy was the only one spared by Enchantress but it is unknown what she spared him from but it is possible that Kevin was spared from the death of poison he had drank to protect her.
- ↑ Cowboy's 2022 and 2023 Letters heavily imply that Kevin had already escaped the Manor before the Manor Game began.
- ↑ Perfumer's 2022 Letter uses 5-0-5 while other letters use 5-?-5.
