Identity V Wiki

Dancing in Misery is a hunter ability belonging to the Geisha, Michiko. This ability is already unlocked at the start of every match.

It will upgrade further when her Presence bar is full.

Ability Details[]

Michiko sends out a Swallowtail Butterfly with a lifespan of 40 seconds to the target location. It will take some time for it to get there.

Swallowtail[]

Michiko's resentment transforms into a butterfly spirit which can be used as a target for Dash Hit.

When a survivor comes into contact with a Swallowtail Butterfly, it will attach itself to the survivor for 30 seconds, making a survivor a target for Dash Hit.

Survivors with an attached Swallowtail Butterfly can interrupt Dash Hit by staring at Michiko.

Dash Hit: Michiko enters genesis mode and assumes the Prajna form. She ignores the terrain and rushes towards the butterfly or the survivor with an attached butterfly closest to the middle of where she is looking. But, should Michiko’s face be gazed upon by an attached survivor, Panic form will be activated and special abilities negated.

Enhanced[]

Increases the Swallowtail Butterfly's flying speed.

Gameplay[]

Michiko is able to place butterflies anywhere on the map, but only within a certain distance (30 meters) from where she is standing (if she is in Soul Departure mode, her casting distance is accelerated). She can dash towards butterflies even if they are not attached to a survivor, however she needs to see the Prajna symbol above it in order to dash. She will also be unable to dash if the butterfly disappears behind an obstacle.

  • Using [Dancing in Misery] to place a butterfly won't cause the Geisha to transform from Beauty form to Prajna form.
  • A Swallowtail Butterfly can attach to a Survivor while it's flying. The Geisha can also use Dash Hit on a Swallowtail Butterfly when it's flying. When the Geisha is using Dash Hit on a Swallowtail Butterfly, if it attaches to a Survivor, the skill still continues towards the attached Survivor.
  • A Swallowtail Butterfly's attachment will be cancelled when the attached Survivor gets hit by a normal attack. The attachment effect resets when the Survivor comes into contact with another Swallowtail Butterfly.
  • The Geisha can see the outlines of all Swallowtail Butterflies. Survivors can see the outlines of Swallowtail Butterflies within 24 meters.
  • When Soul Departure is used, Geisha can increase the casting distance for Dash Hit and Dancing in Misery (from 30 meters to 49.98 meters in the air)

Hunter Tips

  • Avoid using Dash Hit or doing any actions that trigger Prajna Form at the beginning of the match, because an instrumental sound is audible to every player across the whole map whenever Geisha changes from Beauty Form to Prajna Form, which helps survivors know what hunter they are facing too soon, making it harder for Geisha to eliminate the first survivor. Using Beauty Form at the start also helps you traverse the map faster and trigger Terror Radius slower, gaining better chances to find the first target.
  • Be thoughtful about butterfly placement. Although she can place a butterfly behind any obstacle, she cannot dash to any obscured butterfly.
    • Try to release the Swallowtail Butterflies in open spaces with less obstacles that might block her view. Remember that you can activate Dash Hit 0.67 seconds after summoning a Swallowtail Butterfly.
    • It is best to predict where survivors are transitioning to and land a butterfly there to prepare a mind game for them whether the hunter will dash or not.
    • Her dash ability largely depends on where Geisha is standing, and the POV of the camera. This means that sometimes adjusting the camera can allow the Geisha to dash to a butterfly that was previously obscured.
      • This can make it seem as if Geisha dashes through a wall in some cases, as the camera is able to look over the obstacle and connect with the butterfly, allowing her to dash to it.
      • In some cases, you can one-click the butterfly summoning skill behind some obstacles and immediately activate the Dash Hit to cross through them (remember to adjust Geisha's standing position 17cm away from the obstacles).
    • You can place butterflies further away using Soul Departure.
  • Butterflies can be placed through the ceiling of the basement to create a falling hit situation, even without using Soul Departure.
  • If timed right, dashing to a butterfly after using Soul Departure and attacking will result in no recovery animation.
  • When releasing a butterfly right in front of the untouched pallet, avoid activating the first skill immediately because it may result in getting stunned by accident (unless you are sure that the survivor might not put down the pallet immediately). After the survivor's done putting the pallet, you are safe to cast the skill and land a successful hit.
    • When a marked survivor is vaulting through a pallet, Geisha cannot dash to them. Use this as an advantage to throw a butterfly behind the pallet and create a double-edged sword situation to your target, either wait for a hit and vault through the pallet, or vault through the pallet but having higher chances to get Terror Shock.
  • Geisha's hitbox is relatively short, but fan-shaped. You can use this to your advantage and hit bodyblocked survivors.

Survivor Tips

  • Keep track of nearby butterflies, and try to keep obstacles and distance between not only you and the Geisha, but also between you and her butterflies.
  • You can tell when Geisha dashes, as a loud instrumental noise will sound out across the entire area within its radius every time she does so.
  • In general, you don't want to pick up a butterfly on yourself, as this can allow Geisha to dash to you directly. If you do pick one up, you can use the Stare button that appears (right-click on PC) to look at Geisha and keep her from dashing to you, or interrupt a dash.
    • The stare button will have a red glow when Geisha's dash is off cooldown, and will be a normal white colour otherwise.
    • If a butterfly is in an inconvenient location and could interrupt your kiting in an area you plan to stay in, you may want to consider picking it up so you can better control when and where the Geisha is going to dash to, either by obscuring her view to you or by looking at her.
    • Keep in mind that any butterflies attached to you will disappear when Geisha hits you, or after a short period of time they will automatically disappear.
  • If Geisha is dashing at you, and there is an undropped pallet in between you and her dash, timing the pallet drop correctly can stun her out of her dash.
  • When rescuing against a Geisha, be wary of her using Soul Departure to float above the chair your teammate is in. If she drops and hits you, then she will not have an attack recovery animation, and can immediately hit again. Lure her out of the air by coming close then pulling away when you see her starting to fall.
  • Best if you avoid the butterfly and looping the area where Geisha can easily dash to the other side.

Appearance[]

The butterflies will flutter a few feet above the ground where they are placed, or will fly around the head of an attached survivor. They glow slightly and are jade green in color. Smaller butterflies will flutter around Geisha when she uses her Dash Hit ability.

Accessory Changes[]

Certain A-tier and S-tier accessories will change the appearance of her butterflies:

S-Tier[]
  • Reluctant Hug - her butterflies are light pink (upper wings) and light blue (lower wings)
A-Tier[]
  • Burning Cherry - her butterflies are dark pink (upper wings) and rich deep red (lower wings) while ash-like particles float around them
  • Falling Butterfly - her butterflies are monochromatic with darker edges, and have a pink glow
  • Kitsune Mask - her butterflies are white with blue around the edges, and a blue eye-like pattern on the upper wings

Trivia[]

  • Previously, Geisha could dash to any survivor when she saw them, much like how the ability works when a butterfly is attached to a survivor.
  • Despite Geisha having the "Red Butterfly" title, her butterflies are green by default.
