Death's Head Hawkmoth is an A-Tier Costume for the Naiad, Grace. It was introduced in Season 32 Essence 2 on June 13th, 2024, and is currently available in Memory Sphere - Previous Seasons.

Appearance[]

Physical[]

Grace retains her trademark braid and thick, wavy bangs framing her face, however now it is a dark shade of brown tied by thin gold ropes. Her nails and toes are painted black. Her skin is a very pale tint of what appears to be palest brown, dull-red painted lips in a vague smile, a solid white eye and what looks like small cracks under said eye. Dark brown cracks are visible over her entire body, most noticeably on her arms, hands, legs, and the upper part of her back.

Outfit[]

Two small golden butterfly decorations can be seen on her wavy hair, and golden and black wings of what seems to be the Death's Head Hawkmoth's wings are attached at the corners of her visible eye, and a full set of the same wings obscuring her other eye.

She wears a floaty illusion neck dress with a black collar-like piece around her neck, and a Death's Head Hawkmoth insignia stretching down from the collar piece down to the neckline in gold and black. The dress is off shouldered with an ombré tint in the shoulder portions, fading from black to gold with a black hem line, lined with golden circles at the bottom.

The top of the upper layer of the dress seems to be sheer, translucent material with puffy sleeves gathered at the bottom of them with golden bands to give way to petal-shaped trails below the puffy sleeves, more of the golden butterfly decorations attached on it. A split skirt, flowing down from the waist of the top, with a golden brown ombre tint flows over the white under skirt, slightly shorter than it. The top skirt darkens to a darker, richer brown, with pale golden-brown butterfly shaped decorations following the curve of the split and oval shaped light brown spots on the hems.

The underskirt of the dress is floaty and white, longer than the top one, with a delicate lacy pattern on the hems. Another skirt underneath even this can be seen, colored a dull, desaturated gray, with similar lacy pattern in silver lining the hems. The entire skirt is cinched at the waist by a dull golden-brown belt ribbon, tied into a neat bow at the back.

She is, as usual, barefoot.

Weapon[]

Grace's harpoon has turned into a golden spear with a pen needle like tip and black accents. The socket is extravagantly decorated, shaped into a fleur de lis like pattern and curved, swirling patterns above it. Death's Head Hawkmoth's flutter over it.

[A Costume] Naiad - Death's Head Hawkmoth, the black and gold wings of the moth spread out from her eyes, decayed lines entrenched on her beautiful face, and the lace pattern on her neck is strange and mysterious, hinting at her gorgeous but rotten life.

The gorgeous tulle dress has a scaly sheen, and the seemingly pure gold has revealed a sign of decay, with a touch of gray on the hem and corners of the dress. The fountain pen in her hand is engraved with delicate patterns, and a moth with a ghost face on its back perches on the tip of the pen, and she writes about her secret fear.

Pure and beautiful, but secretly trapped. Everything looks beautiful, but there are unspeakable secrets behind it. What kind of story is being written between the moth and the light?!

Design Idea Sketches[3]
In this essence, we decided to use the Death's Head Hawkmoth for Naiad due to its symbolism for rust, decay, and death.

DeathsHeadHawkmothEarlyDesign

In the first iteration, the usage of the Death's Head Hawkmoth overly emphasized religion and 'decay' in the cycle of life. The overall mood her clothing gave was too heavy and felt too focused on corrosion, which conflicted with the bright, vibrant, and lightness of the other costumes in this essence.

DeathsHeadHawkmothFinalDesign1

In the second iteration, we significantly changed the color scheme and clothing material, but her overall silhouette felt ordinary, and her temperament banal.

DeathsHeadHawkmothFinalDesign2

Based on the second version, her clothing's shape was optimized, and the characteristics of the Death's Head Hawkmoth were emphasized. We continued to refine the design based on this.
