Elisa Baciocchi is a member of the royal family who employed the Violinist, Antonio.
Compiled Overview[]
Elisa was a member of the royal family. At some point, she came into contact with Antonio. After Antonio fell into a large debt, the royal family would employ him as a member of their royal orchestra to pay off his debt.
While in their orchestra, the royal family decided that his music was undeserving of ordinary people and that they needed to keep him in their control as a symbol of their superiority. Around this time, Antonio also grew restless under their control, wanting his freedom back. After asking to leave, the royal family locked Antonio in a tower, refusing to let him leave unless he was able to compose a song with a single string. Eventually, Antonio completed this task, as witnessed by the Court Maestro, and was able to leave.[2]
After leaving, Elisa had a tavern keeper keep an eye out on Antonio, telling him to serve the violinist a specific red wine she sent to the tavern. The tavern keeper kept her updated on Antonio until one day, he didn't return to the tavern, not appearing for several days. In their letter to her, the tavern keeper wrote that a stranger had appeared at the entrance with a letter for Antonio, causing him to drink heavy amounts of wine while murmuring about "escape" and "domination". Shortly after that, he would vanish without a word of where he was going. The tavern keeper wondered in his letter if Antonio had returned to have an audience with her before ending the letter asking for more of the wine she sent in case he was to return.[3]
Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]
- Elisa is based on Elisa Bonaparte (full name Maria Anna Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi Levoy), a French princess and sister of Napoleon.
- Niccolo Paganini, who Antonio is based on, was a member of Elisa's court and gave lessons to Elisa's husband, Felice Pasquale Baciocchi. He and Elisa also were having an affair during his time in her court.
- It is possible that Elisa was the woman Antonio spent the night with in his Deduction Quest #2: Seductive Tune.
- This could mean that Elisa and Antonio were romantically involved for a time, before his enslavement.
- This could also be how the royal family originally learned of Antonio.
- Her first characterization was a single mention in Christmas Nocturne, In which Antonio unconsciously recalls a memory of trying to force her from his bed. This, coupled with her second mention in Ashen Oath again referring to a 'bedchamber' and his lack of freedom, suggests that her unwanted advances are a consistent character trait, not simply the product of one event's story.
