Elliot is a minor character with connections to Joseph Desaulniers.
Compiled Overview[]
Little is currently known about Elliot. He was a friend of Macaulay and another woman. At some point, the woman disappeared. For unknown reasons, Elliot suspected Joseph Desaulniers was behind her disappearance and that she was inside his manor.[1] Following Elliot's suspicions, Macaulay visited Joseph's Manor under the guise of working there to look for her. Macaulay wrote a letter to Elliot saying that he is confident that she is in the Manor somewhere alive and affirmed Elliot's suspicions that something was off about the Manor. He also mentioned things about Joseph's behavior and past.[2] Shortly after, Macaulay would disappear, along with everyone else in the manor. Elliot, driven by the disappearance of his close friend, would become obsessed with bringing Joseph to justice. Even after the police declared the case cold and closed it, Elliot would push for them to reopen it and continue searching on his own.
Decades of searching later, Elliot would discover Macaulay's final letter that was never delivered due to the faults of the errand boy. It had been sent alongside an optical device created by Joseph, but the device was sold to a man named Mr. Leroux.
The search for answers would be taken over by Elliot's Nephew. His nephew, by pure chance, would be at the same location as Mr. Leroux and would attempt to confront him.
Theories & Alternate Conclusions[]
- While not directly named, Elliot is implied to be the uncle of Alice's friend in Joseph's 2025 Letter, as the only friend Macaulay appeared to be writing to while at Joseph's manor was Elliot.
- At some point while Elliot was still a young man, Joseph would come to hear of Elliot's complaints about Joseph's experiments. It is currently ambiguous whether they met in person or Joseph happened learn of these complaints. While Joseph may not remember his name, he claims Elliot was the "most rational and vocal" regarding his experiments. As years pass, Joseph can't help but remember these words.[3]
- Photographer's 2025 Letter makes it ambiguous whether or not Elliot actually came into contact with Joseph directly as it seems after Macaulay disappeared, Elliot never found Joseph.
- It is possible this happened before Macaulay's disappearance and was the reason why Elliot was originally suspicious of Joseph.
- Elliot may be a priest or another religious person.
- Joseph describes him as telling him "sermons about the deceased or the meaning of life and time".[3] Sermons are usually speeches associated with religion, specifically that of Christianity.
- It should be noted this wording is only in the English translation. The original wording did not include any religious connotations.
