Backstory

Character Introduction

Luchino Diruse was a renowned scholar obsessed with studying reptiles. After receiving a rare venomous snake from a colleague, Luchino disappeared. Bloody scales were found in his room, but what was even stranger than this was that those large green scales were rough on the surface and extremely hard. They clearly didn't belong to any known creature.[5]

Deduction Quests Conclusion
1. Research: What encourages us to conduct research? It's greed. The greed for knowledge.
  • Basic Objective: Jump in the air a total of 3 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 1: Jump in the air a total of 4 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 2: Jump in the air a total of 5 time(s).
Diary 1: The feeling we have about this world determines who we are. And the feeling I have about this world is unknown. Won't people be disturbed about those obscure information and ambiguous hints? If a question is not answered satisfactorily, it will keep on lingering in my brain.
2. Venom: Is there any work that has no risk? So long as the return is worth it...
  • Basic Objective: Jump to quickly shorten the distance between a Survivor 1 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 1: Jump to quickly shorten the distance between a Survivor 2 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 2: Jump to quickly shorten the distance between a Survivor 3 time(s).
Document 1: The bearded lizard is 57-91 cm in length with small scales that look like beads. Except for its stomach, most of its scales are covered with bone dermis. Its venom may cause respiratory failure to a big rat, but its effect on humans is limited - local edema in the bitten area with pain lasting up to 24 hours, along with sweating and decreased blood pressure. For this species, their tails won't grow back once they're broken off.
3. Social: This is a side effect of my job.
  • Basic Objective: Jump without touching any obstacles 2 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 1: Jump without touching any obstacles 3 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 2: Jump without touching any obstacles 4 time(s).
Diary 2: Dr. Duquein Thompson is doing a good job in keeping his thoughts to himself, but time will tell. Perhaps I was the reason his "matchmaking" business failed, or perhaps his values came into play, "If a person can't be enticed, then he's a potential enemy."
4. Food Tasting: The importance of dosage is often neglected in sophistry.
  • Basic Objective: Jump on a platform 1 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 1: Jump on a platform 1 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 2: Jump on a platform 2 time(s).
Document 2: The phantasmal poison frog is 1.6-2.7 cm in length with a wide head, a short nose, and smooth skin. Its first finger is longer than its second finger, and all of its fingers are webbed. Its back is usually green or yellow with stripes. Its pain-relieving effect is better than morphine.
5. Shortcut: Can money buy everything?
  • Basic Objective: Jump off a platform 1 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 1: Jump off a platform 1 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 2: Jump off a platform 2 time(s).
Diary 3: Dr. Duquein Thompson's announcement brought him a lot of research materials. I can't wait to find out what his new research topic is. Hopefully, he won't turn these materials into new "exhibits".
6. Predicament: Pursuing unlimited knowledge with one's limited life is doomed to fail.
  • Basic Objective: Break 1 pallet(s) with Lethal Crash.
  • Advanced Objective 1: Break 2 pallet(s) with Lethal Crash.
  • Advanced Objective 2: Break 3 pallet(s) with Lethal Crash.
Document 3: The Gila monster is 30-60 cm in length with scales, much like the ones on beaded lizards. Its color patches are bigger and more colorful. Its tail is thick and strong, but it won't grow back once it's broken off. Its venom may cause numbness to limbs, nausea, and lethargy, but it's not fatal with immediate treatment. Larger wounds may be inflamed and extremely painful.
7. Nobody: We always neglect those who blend into the background.
  • Basic Objective: Hit with charged attack 1 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 1: Hit with charged attack 2 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 2: Hit with charged attack 3 time(s).
Diary 4: The laboratory janitor told me about a peculiar snake. He claimed that this type of snake could grow four limbs within ten or so days. That may sound like a wild man's crazy story, but I soon realized that he's serious. I suggested to him that he should put on gloves or use other tools to catch that "snake". Perhaps we'll discover a new species together.
8. Temptation: Knowing it's a trap but heading towards it anyway.
  • Basic Objective: Jump and hit a Survivor 1 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 1: Jump and hit a Survivor 2 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 2: Jump and hit a Survivor 3 time(s).
Diary 5: Dr. Duquein Thompson made me an irresistible offer to study the unknown lizard species. Or perhaps it's a snake. Anyway, this means I have a chance to confirm and establish a new species. This sounds too good to be true, but how can I say no?
9. Trap: The best traps are those which people step into willingly.
  • Basic Objective: Hit a Survivor with Lethal Crash 1 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 1: Hit a Survivor with Lethal Crash 2 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 2: Hit a Survivor with Lethal Crash 3 time(s).
Document 4: This creature has fully formed forelimbs, its hind limbs are not fully developed, and there are no outer ear holes on the sides of its head. It's covered in greyish-brown square scales, and the scales on its stomach are bigger than those on its back. Its eyes can blink and they have nictitating membranes. We have examined its oral cavity which has hollow fangs in the anterior part of the maxilla. The venom appears to be ineffective as the rat is behaving normally.
10. Boundary: It's only when we cross a boundary that it becomes clear.
  • Basic Objective: Within a short duration after landing a Lethal Crash hit, hit Survivor 1 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 1: Within a short duration after landing a Lethal Crash hit, hit Survivor 1 time(s).
  • Advanced Objective 2: Within a short duration after landing a Lethal Crash hit, hit Survivor 1 time(s).[DQ 1]
Diary 6: The wound is getting dry and rough but it doesn't hurt. My stamina has improved, I'm more sensitive to smells, and my old scars are fading. Unlike the Gila monster and the beaded lizard, the venom of this creature may change the world! I should speed up the experiments.
Rumor
Luchino's continuous exploration into forbidden areas has brought him endless troubles. Day in and day out, there are always more scales to remove.

Lakeside Village Investigation Report (2020)

Dear Ms. Gilman,
As you mentioned in the previous letter, we've launched an investigation into Volcker's[TN 1] foster family in the Lakeside Village and have continued to observe their movement.[TN 2]
During our investigation, we've discovered that Volcker's brother, Darren, is a janitor working for the university laboratory. A laboratory professor went missing recently, and the police department has found a large, cryptic scale from the lab. According to our sources, the scale recovered from the lab is similar to the scales our investigators have found in the local woodland in Lakeside Village.
What concerns us is that fact Darren also went missing, leaving his bedridden mother behind.
This series of disappearances are all linked to the Lakeside Village, and our investigators suspect these disappearances have something to with the crime syndicate. We regret to inform you that we will cease all investigation from this point forward, for we place great importance on our investigator's safety. All prior payments will be refunded within this week.

I wish you well.
Sincerely,
Arthur Russell

A Diary Entry (2021)

Once I've actually met them in person, I finally got a better sense of who they were. That person's name was Luchino Diruse—he was kinder and more friendly than I expected. When I first met him in the dining room, he was wearing a washed out white shirt and had a bandage on his head. He was reading the card with the room number and name on the table. He was courteous and didn't make a fuss about the owl on my shoulder as people usually did. He merely greeted me politely and led me to my room.
Another woman named Demi Bourbon arrived at the manor in the afternoon. Dinner was great as Ms. Bourbon was easy to talk to. Mr. Diruse didn't say much, but he would respond or concur at times. He said he was a researcher and came here to collect data.
I could vaguely see scale-like debris and odd scars beneath Mr. Diruse's collar. He realized I was staring and explained with a smile that those were "presents" from his research. He was dignified and cautious, just like a researcher. I couldn't imagine what he had been through for him to be under such peculiar influence. I thought about the ending I once saw, and oddly I couldn't really see Mr. Diruse at the end of the tragedy...
There was another person in the future I saw—that's the fourth one. Perhaps we can await her arrival tomorrow in bliss.

Luchino Diruse's Experiment Report (2022)

Serial No. 6-1-4
Name: Luchino Diruse

[Test Indicators]
1. Vigilance
2. Moderate Thirst for Knowledge

[Inclination]
A wary seeker and the only test subject in this group.

[Test Results]
1. Overall Evaluation:
Subject 6-1-4 is capable of exercising self-control when pursuing knowledge. Perhaps it is this controllable curiosity of his that made him the only "existing" participant in this group.

2. Methodology:
Subject 6-1-4 remained fully vigilant throughout the experiment on Group 6. Even after Subject 6-0-5 made the sacrifice and threw the situation into absolute chaos, he was able to remain clearheaded and keep his distance from danger.
Something unexpected occurred while dealing with the aftermath of the experiment. On the first night after the experiment ended, Subject 6-1-1 vanished from the processing room, leaving only a puddle of water behind. Subject 6-1-3 vanished the next day and similarly left behind a dark puddle of water. Besides Subject 6-1-4, the other 5 test subjects in the group vanished successively in the next 3 days, including the remains of a test subject who had been confirmed as deceased.
The disappearance of the five test subjects has not been solved, but according to our analysis, the puddle of water left behind at the scene is almost identical in composition to the lake water at this group's test site.

3. Experiment Summary:
The five missing persons from Group 6 have ceased to exist both in terms of vital signs and physical existence. Instead of considering them to have "vanished or gone missing," I prefer to say that "the proof of their existence has been wiped." They have turned into pools of cold water while under multiple layers of surveillance.
Subject 6-1-4 is the only remaining test subject. Perhaps it is due to his moderate curiosity toward the unknown that made the unknown reciprocate with moderate "care." In contrast to his past experience of being bitten by a reptile, I think it taught him how to maintain adequate respect and vigilance.
In the information we previously gathered, the ignorant fishermen spoke confidently about the "mysterious existence" within the lake. I, too, have seen a similar monster, but perhaps I'll be lucky enough to observe and conduct experiments to form a more rigorous theory on it. The disappearance of five test subjects made the experiment almost pointless, so the files for this group have been sealed (perhaps it's better to destroy them). The Group 6 experiment can be restarted by placing Luchino Diruse back at the Lakeside Village test site with other "unique but dangerous" test subjects from other groups.
Will the new Group 6 yield similar results? Can this interesting situation be reproduced? People always fear the unknown, yet they search for a pattern within its mystery, and that is the excitement of experimentation.

The Last Page of a Record (2023)

After several months of observation, I'm finally able to make a detailed record of the species.
1. Physical Traits
The appearance of this species displays the main features of reptiles. There is a hollow fang in the upper jaw, which contains venom.
2. Venom
In the rat bite experiment, the rat did not display any obvious abnormal reactions. But when a human was replaced as the subject, the subject displayed enhanced physical strength and an increased sensitivity to smells after 3 to 4 days. After 7 days of being bitten, green scales started appearing on the subject's skin. At the same time, the subject displayed lizard-like behavior, such as an inclination toward sunbathing and heightened nocturnal activity.
3. Further Research
Research shows the venom produced by the species is very likely to have a selective effect on mammals or certain latent long-term effects. Considering the uniqueness of the species, I hope that in-depth research will be carried out on it, focusing on analyzing the long-term effects of its venom composition on humans. Unfortunately, in my personal experiment, the bitten's subject's body is still changing with each passing day. Yet, due to time constraints, I am forced to stop my recording here.

However, time may not be the sole factor. After some personal experiences, I've come to find it increasingly difficult to make certain and confident judgments.
I once believed science is the only way to understand the world, and a strong desire for knowledge can guide humanity to all answers. However, I encountered an unknown force during this trip, and it erased reality in a way beyond human understanding. I met a prophet and witnessed a future that the power of man could not undo. I discovered something akin to medicine that exceeded my understanding, and at this very moment, it is eating away at my sanity.
This trip is not long, but I've spent my nights suppressing the inhuman desire within me and battling against that ""instinct."" Now, the hostility of my ""travel companions"" is growing increasingly clear. According to my understanding of humans, my trip is approaching its end.
This may be my final record, but it does not sadden me. I've done my best to go further on the path to knowledge. And I finally understand that those researchers who regret failing to find the answer are laughable. After all, there was never a true ""answer"" in this world.
If you ask me, my only regret is probably being unable to name that creature myself.

A Message (2024)

The theory of evolution asserts that human genes evolved from apes—science can objectively and lucidly explain all principles, including those of the future and the unknown. Luchino never questioned the veracity of science; he simply glimpsed another world beyond the realm of truth, becoming lost in a tragic prophecy from which he had yet to return.

Luchino Diruse: Investigation Notes I (2025)

When my investigation into the Lakeside Village disappearance reached an impasse, a small detail from the police account caught my attention. In the laboratory where the janitor, Darren, once worked, a professor of Biotoxicology went missing. On the scene were found strange scales remarkably similar to those discovered at the Lakeside Village altar. This coincidence compelled me to redirect my inquiry toward the connection between Professor Luchino Diruse and the affair at Lakeview Village.
Luchino Diruse
To learn more about Luchino, I called upon Dr. Duquein Thompson, a specialist in Herpetology who worked at the same institute and, as rumor had it, had proposed the very research topic Professor Diruse had been pursuing prior to his disappearance.
Dr. Thompson received me at his office in the institute. True to habit, I arrived a few minutes early; an assistant led me in and offered tea while I waited. The room was nothing short of impressive—French oak flooring, a wall-to-wall bookcase crowded with trophies and medals, and the air faintly perfumed by some costly metropolitan brand of incense. I had barely finished half my cup when Dr. Thompson entered. His suit, I noted, bore the unmistakable cut of a Savile Row tailor in London.
"I suppose it was only a matter of time before someone came asking about Professor Diruse," he said, eyeing me with polite curiosity. "Though I did not expect it to be a young lady such as yourself." His smile was courteous, his tone ambiguous, balanced somewhere between compliment and condescension. After an exchange of pleasantries, he spoke, at last, of Luchino.
Luchino Diruse, according to Dr. Thompson, was born in a modest town in southern Italy. His father served as a curator at a paleontological museum; his mother was a nurse. Such means allowed him a respectable education, though little else. From those humble beginnings, he acquired habits of thrift that persisted well into his professional life. What his circumstances denied in luxury, they compensated for in curiosity. He possessed an almost fanatical devotion to his work, so much so that, as Dr. Thompson recalled, Professor Diruse once spent a fortnight locked in the laboratory, investigating the influence of environmental conditions on the venom glands of the Gila monster, sleeping scarcely at all until the cleaners forced him out for rest.
It was, perhaps, this obsessive focus that brought him distinction in his field. Dr. Thompson reminisced about a heated academic conference concerning the preparation of antivenom for a rare serpent's toxin. "We were all arguing," he said, "and Luchino remained silent until he rose to point out a crucial enzymatic reaction everyone had overlooked. In that moment, one could only concede that he was a genius."
Driven by such restless inquiry, Luchino Diruse completed his studies in half the usual time and published several forward-thinking papers in noted journals, earning attention and investments for the institute. Alas, every collaboration ended in failure.
Noting my surprise, Dr. Thompson smirked. "Astounding, isn't it? Yet that is the defect shared by most geniuses—arrogance. Though penniless and idealistic, they still believe science must remain noble, pure, and free. He would debate me with nonsense about 'knowledge as its own end.'"
As he spoke, he crossed to the window and gestured to the room around us. "Every brick of this institute, every instrument in its laboratories—none of it appears by magic. We require results to sustain our funding. Professor Diruse refused to accept that truth, or perhaps refused even to try. He was, I fear, a madman intoxicated by his own science."
I leafed through my notes, which included recent project reports, budgets, and investment returns.
"So you reduced his research funding because his project failed to meet expectations?" I asked. Dr. Thompson nodded. "I am responsible for the institute's future. Some sacrifices are inevitable."
"Do you believe that professional frustration drove him to his disappearance? Or might he have shown signs of... instability?"
"He wasn't that sort," Dr. Thompson interrupted sharply. "You misunderstand him. Professor Diruse would abandon himself for one reason only—if he believed science had reached its end."
"The end of science?" I asked.
"Diruse once asked me that very question," Thompson said with a weary sigh. "My answer was—and remains—I don't know. I've never squandered time on such futility. But he disagreed. He wasted his vigor chasing intangible things—philosophy, faith. He even proposed a study titled 'The Correlation between Spiritual Consciousness and Cellular Mutation.' What was he, scientist or mystic? Frankly, I think that cursed serpent in the lab bit not his hand, but his brain." His anger flared openly for the first time. Yet amid that tirade, I caught a crucial detail.
"The serpent you mentioned. What was it exactly?"
Dr. Thompson's shoulders relaxed a little. "It was brought by the janitor, Darren—a strange creature, serpent-bodied but with limbs like a lizard. At first, I thought it a novel species—publication of such a discovery could have brought immense prestige. Upon examination, it proved to be nothing but a malformed specimen, not worth further study. But Professor Diruse became obsessed. He argued that it might transform our understanding of life. I granted him funds and time, but what did he pursue? The link between spirit and mutation? He was delusional! Biological research is founded on fact and evidence, not storytelling. If that misshapen snake could truly change the world, then surely the new Adam and Eve would walk among us!"
Why, I wondered, did the same serpent appear to each man so differently? I recalled Darren mentioning scales before his own disappearance, and the similarity between those found in Lakeside Village and the ones in the lab. It seemed as though this creature, in some unfathomable way, had entwined the fates of all involved.
"Is the serpent still in the laboratory?" I asked.
"After Diruse vanished, the serpent disappeared as well—like some phantom. He left the lab following our quarrel about the creature's research." Dr. Thompson paused, then opened a drawer and handed me a slip of paper. "His letter of resignation. It serves no purpose to me now, but perhaps you'll find it useful." I had not expected such a discovery; I accepted it at once.
"His departure—call it disappearance if you must—ever since, your newspaper and the police have been hunting for motive or reason. In my view, he merely resigned and went off in pursuit of his own answer."
When I left the institute, the last light of sunset spilled across the weathered walls of the laboratory. As my fingers touched the envelope, hesitating to open it, I recalled a line written beneath Luchino Diruse's photograph on the wall of staff profiles:
"Monkeys are not the beginning of evolution, just as tomorrow is not the end of the future. Like humanity itself, ceaseless and tireless, there lies an infinity of change and the unknown."
Perhaps I should wait until tomorrow to open that letter.

but anyway that's just a fancy flame color reaction, isn't it?
it's not that I like summer because of that,
and there's nothing in particular that I want to see.
I like the atmosphere of such festival, though.

▽┰▽<I'm not going to let you down, so be good.

September 24th maintenance notice (link) Prof Luchino, thank you for your hard work. Here’s some tea for you Hey, how did this happen?

It's not a problem of me not asking you to do anything in the first place or anything like that.
It looks almost as if the supplier has made a mistake in placing the order.
▽┰▽<Don’t tell me to drink all this, do you?

September 24th maintenance notice (link) Emma gave me some advice a while ago, so I'm here again!!! Prof Luchino!!!!! It’s still my birthday!!!!!!! Please, celebrate me!!!!!!!!!!! Why do you take people's advice so honestly?!

That a lass… You'll regret this…!
…I'll give you advice too.
The average life span is 90 years.
That day is a phenomenon that comes to us once a year.
I don't have the slightest interest in that day, much less in someone else's.
Besides, I can make that day, which has now passed for you, a bad day.
▽┰▽ <You know what this means, …don't you?

October 14th maintenance completed notice (link) Thank you for the maintenance! Mr Luchino! It’s a beautiful autumn day today! Let’s go for a walk! Do you know plants as well? I’d like to go for a walk with you and hear your knowledge about autumn plants. You know the plant with the purple-black berries?

That name is Belladonna.
If you touch the surface of the leaves,
you will have a wonderful experience.
The berries, if eaten,
will cause vomiting, mydriasis, abnormal excitability,
and death due to tropane alkaloids.
You can literally experience the feeling of ascension.
I'll feed them to you in return for the sweet potato before.
▽┰▽ <Hey, stay still. Eat up.

November 2021 calendar (link) Mr Luchino, your birthday is coming up. What do you learn about toxicology? You can use me as an experimental subject for your toxicological research! Are you crazy?

Poison is more painful than a normal death, you know?
Some poisons cause so much pain just by touching the skin,
or leave such after effects that it would be easier to die.
Um… If you're ready for that, that's fine…
I'm busy researching my own body, so I'll pass.
▽┰▽ <There're lots of people who want to do scientific trials. Look elsewhere.

S18 essence 3 announcement video (link) Mr Luchino, are you a dog? A lizard? Or another creature different from them all…? Hehe… You still care about that? …Hahaha!

Don't ask me… you human being…
Ultimate… I am the ultimate… hehehe…
Devour you… and be the ultimate…
Your flesh and blood… HAHAHA!
That fills me up when I've arrived at… the extreme unknown…
Fills… fills… fill………
Ugh…… g…… Heheh……
Hey… It's about time, right?
▽┰▽<Thirsty… I can't help it…

Luchino's Character Day (link) I love Mr Luchino. I wish you all the best and hope that your wish comes true. May you be happy… Even if you do not wish my happy,

only I know if I’m happy and only I can decide.
▽┰▽ <Use your wishes only for yourself.

Luchino's Character Day (link) Mr Luchino, happy character day!! I am happy thanks to my fateful meeting with you!!!! I hope you’ll be happy with me too!!!!!!!! Huh, “I am happy because of you”?

It’s a happiness you’ve earned by your own efforts.
Result is not obtained from others.
▽┰▽ <It’s what you get yourself.

Cold Mini Luchino (link) Mr Luchino!!! I’ve got an electric blanket, a kotatsu and a hot-water bottle for you!!! If you tell me what you like, I’ll bring food and drink!!! If it’s not enough, I’ll add it!!! Please stay warm and take care of those colds!!! Ugh… Are you crazy?

As well as your too generous attitude,
and the fact that I couldn’t have asked for more…
Are you a concierge in some pricey hotel or something?
It’s time you understand who you’re dealing with…
▽┰▽<What do you think I am?

December 16th maintenance notice (link) Thank you for the announcement. Mr Luchino! I bought oranges today and I’m sharing them with you! Please eat a lot!! By the way, why do we hands turn yellow when we eat a lot of oranges? Ahhh… Why do you do as making your enemy come alive?

If you do that, I'll have no choice but bury my head in my hands…
Yellowing of the hands is caused by consuming too much of Beta-Cryptoxanthin.
That's all. Go home. That's unnecessary for me.
Eat them all yourself.
▽┰▽<All, including a source of my stress.

December 22nd maintenance completed notice (link) Thank you for the maintenance! Today I took an exam and I passed! It was difficult and not easy at times, but thinking of Mr Luchino kept me going!!! You are still great!! Thank you very much!! I love you!!! Why are you like that… I can't stop wondering…

First of all, I had nothing to do with your exam.
So it doesn't matter to me if you're delighted.
And if you have the brains to study,
why don't you have the brain to think about leaving me?
What's the point of abandoning your thoughts in favor of worshiping me and risking contact…
▽┰▽<What drives you so far…

February 17th maintenance notice (link) Mr Luchino, this Season is coming to an end. Thank you for your help! To be honest, it’s a shame I lost so many games this Season and didn’t give you many victories… How can I break out of slump? I’ll try my best be stronger and I hope to go with you next Season! Come on, I didn't expect you'd say such a bother…

Regardless of the victory,
I'd be happy to see you disappear from my sight, though…
…Evolution outweighs win or lose.
Growth is the essence of living things, you know?
If you want to win, you tend to take the easy way.
And then it doesn't work,
and eventually your strategy bottoms out and you keep losing.
▽┰▽<That's all there is to it.

April 28th maintenance notice (link) Evil Reptilian Mr Luchino, the newcomer coming tomorrow is said to be an expert in biology… I guess you and he have a lot to talk about! If you ever go to catch a gecko during a game, I’d like to you to call on me. I’ll accompany you… (Reptile lover) Perhaps a happy-go-lucky person like you will be easier for the newcomer to deal with, though.

I don't see how a conversation with him going to go smoothly when my own research is so self-righteous.
There's an incomplete mutation, for which no theorem exists.
Even if he surrenders to it, one day he will reach the limits.
That's why he's looking for something, though…
Don't joke about accompanying me or whatever, get out of here.
▽┰▽<While this body allows you to escape.

As such, they may contain details that have since been altered or removed from the character's backstory. Their related removal date will be listed at the top of their respective section.

Character Introduction

Evil Reptilian's character introduction on the Identity V Official Website was reworded at some point before August 12th 2025. The following is the previous wording.

Luchino was an outstanding scholar who was fascinated with reptiles. Not soon after getting a rare poisonous snake from his colleague, Luchino has suddenly vanished. In his room, people only found bloody scales on the ground. The strange thing is those giant green scales are rough and hard and don’t seem to belong to any known reptile.

Character Relations Background

In June, 2022, an unreleased Character Relations background story for Evil Reptilian was found in the game files. This backstory was changed slightly before its official release with the Character Relations Menu update on August 8th, 2024. The following is the previous wording.

Luchino Diruse was an extraordinary biologist obsessed with studying reptiles. He vanished one day after obtaining a rare viper from a colleague.
Bloody scales were found all over his room, but the strange thing was that these green scales were massive, rough, and exceptionally hard—they're not the scales from any known reptile.

Deduction Summaries

These are unreleased summaries found in the game files in June, 2022. As the released deduction summaries were removed when the Character Relations Menu was updated on August 8th, 2024, these have since become obsolete and likely won't ever be officially released.

Deduction 1: Socializing
The asocial Dr. Luchino was obsessed with studying reptiles. He even let an animal from the experiment take a bite of himself for the sake of research.

Deduction 2: Temptation
His coworker Dr. Thompson suggested a research project into the mysterious four-legged snake. Luchino was really tempted.

Deduction 3: Boundary
Luchino allows the four-legged snake to take a bite of himself. As a result, his body began to mutate, even reaching the boundary of evolution.

Letter Summaries

These are unreleased letter summaries found in the game files in June, 2022. With the Character Relations Menu update on August 8th, 2024, Evil Reptilian's letter summaries were officially released, and the wording of his letter summaries were changed slightly. The following is the previous wording.

Lakeside Village Investigation Report
In the letter, Arthur Russell reported to the Priestess a series of eerie events, including the disappearance of Darren the janitor and Professor Luchino.

A Diary Entry
In the diary, Eli the Seer and Professor Luchino met Demi the Barmaid in the manor. Eli realized there was something wrong with Luchino.

Compiled Overview

The following section contains an overview based on canon information.
Please note that some information may be missing as it may not have been provided from official sources. See the given references for further information.

Personal Life and Education

Professor Luchino was born in a southern town of Italy with a father who worked as a paleontological museum's curator and a mother who worked as a nurse. During his adulthood, he became a researcher of venomous and poisonous reptiles and amphibians at a university, while working alongside Dr. Duquein Thompson. Not longer after attending at an academic conference, researchers started arguing over concerns with preparation of antivenom for a rare serpent's toxin. At that moment, Luchino no longer stood silent of their constant bickering and shuts down the whole assembly of researchers with his fact on finding the answer to a crucial enzymatic reaction.[CO 1] In response, one of the researchers conceded that Luchino was a genius as most of the community applauded his intellect. At some point, Luchino finished his studies in half the usual time and went on to publish several innovative papers in respected journals, drawing both attention and funding to the institute. Despite these successes, every collaboration ultimately failed to meet expectations.[CO 2] As Luchino had caused the failure of one of Dr. Thomson's businesses, Duquein had no other options left but to privately reduce his research funding for the institute's future.[CO 3]

During a fortnight, Luchino locked himself at a laboratory alone to investigate the influence of environmental conditions on a Gila monster's venom glands.[CO 4] Additionally, he would also experiment with the venom of the creatures he studied by first having the venom/poison affect a rat, and then test it on a human, perhaps even himself - albeit with treatment methods nearby. As a result, the cleaners found him scarcely sleeping in a laboratory and forced him out of ensuring him to rest. Later on, Professor Luchino was informed by a janitor named Darren Berglund of a peculiar snake he had encountered climbing up to his mother's window. According to his account, the creature was capable of developing four limbs within approximately ten days. Despite finding it hard to believe, Luchino took note of how serious Darren was and advises him to use protective gloves or other appropriate tools in case of attempting to capture it with caution.[CO 5]

Venom Exposure Incident

Later on, Luchino received an invitation from Dr. Thompson to assist him in his studies of experimenting an unknown serpent-like lizard that was brought in by Darren. At first, Luchino suspected he had a hidden agenda but decided to accept the offer and entered his facility.[CO 6] After examining the specimen, Dr. Thompson concluded that the strange serpent was merely malformed and unworthy of further studying. However, Luchino became obsessed and insisted that it could reshape their understanding of life itself. Although the new reptile's venom did not affect a rat, when Luchino was bitten, he began to exhibit strange symptoms and would develop an interest in religion or spirituality.

Sooner or later, Luchino debates Dr. Thompson with mysticism and biological research. When Duquein argued with Luchino of requiring results that'll sustain the institute's funding, Luchino refused to accept the truth and pursuit his very research topic at hand. Before leaving, Luchino asks Duquein a philosophical question about the 'end of science.' After Dr. Thompson hesitated, he admitted that he doesn’t know the answer. Eventually, Luchino left the laboratory following their quarrel about the creature's research and proposed his own study called "The Correlation between Spiritual Consciousness and Cellular Mutation."[CO 7]

During this unspecified period of time, Professor Luchino's wound gets dry and rough but didn't seem too fazed from it. In fact, he analyzes through his notes that his stamina was improved, becoming more sensitive to smells and his old scars to fade away. Fascinated by this, he designed new ideas to progress his experiments and develop a theory of human evolution.[CO 8] Not for a while, Luchino received a map that marks a "strange snake habitat" near Lakeside Village and became curious about the manor's location.[CO 9] Without hesitation, Professor Luchino leaves a resignation letter at his solitary residence and disappeared from the institute to find answers of a snake habitat.[CO 10]

Alternate Theories and Conclusions

PrisonerPersonalitySprite
The below article or section(s) contains speculation, analysis, or theories which may include unconfirmed information.
When adding content, use references to link or explain legitimate/official supportive evidence for specific theories, otherwise it may be removed.
  • The strange reptile submitted to the two professors that started as a snake but grew legs, and which bit Luchino, comes from the janitor mentioned in the Deduction Quests for Dream Witch. This likely connects the two characters.
  • Luchino doesn't seem to be bothered by his new form, and instead may even see it as the next step in human "evolution."
  • Luchino is heavily implied/speculated to be 6-1-2 in his second manor game, though he has only ever been confirmed as 6-1-4 in his first.

References

  1. While 6-1-2's identity has not been officially confirmed, it can be assumed to be Luchino's. Letters such as Seer's 2021 Letter and Coordinator's 2022 Letter confirm the game only has 4 participants, meaning it is unlikely 6-1-2 would be anyone that hasn't been previously revealed. Additionally, based on Luchino's 2021 letter, it appears he is considered to be the 2nd person to arrive in this manor group, given he arrived before Demi but potentially after Eli.
  2. In Luchino's 2025 Letter, it is mentioned that he was born in a modest town of southern Italy.
  3. In June, 2022, an unreleased Character Relations profile for Evil Reptilian was found in the game files which listed his identity as such.

  5. Backstory from the official Identity V website - https://idv.163.com/character/index.html

Translation Notes

  1. When this letter was originally released to Global servers, Volcker was mistranslated as "Walker."
  2. In English, the "observe their movement" appears to refer to the Haywards. However, in Chinese, it is clear that Arthur is observing the movement of Volcker's biological family, not the Haywards (as they are already dead but presumed missing by this point).

  2. This person (and their death) is mentioned in Priestess's 2022 Letter. It is possible they died some time before the main event of the Manor Game could start, and so had to be replaced by 6-1-6, similar to how the Servais Le Roy replaced the missing Murro Morton.
  3. 3.0 3.1 According to Priestess's 2022 Letter, Fiona was "sacrificed" by Arthur Byers at the Manor.
  4. It is implied that Arthur Byers is the Survivor Identity Switch for The Feaster, but this is currently unconfirmed.
  5. Previously referred to as the Anonymous Writer or Test Candidate: 05-L-01-000. See The Feaster's 2023 Character Day Questions.
  6. The Character Relations Menu confirms that Naiad was involved in the First Group 6's Manor Game.
  7. The Character Relations Menu confirms that Dream Witch was involved in the First Group 6's Manor Game.
  8. See Professor's and Evil Reptilian's 2022 Letter.
  9. Seer's 2021 Letter states that his Game has 4 participants, confirming that he was in the second Game 6.
  10. See Seer's 2022 Letter.
  12. Barmaid's 2023 Letter states that her Game has 4 participants, confirming that she was in the second Game 6.
  13. Coordinator's 2022 Letter states that her Game has 4 participants, confirming that she was in the second Game 6.
  14. The Character Relations Menu implies that Geisha was involved in the Second Group 6's Manor Game. However, it should be noted that this manor game has been stated multiple times to only contain 4 participants. This could mean Geisha is not directly involved but simply has an important role in the game's events or that she is present but is not considered a participant.

Compiled Overview References

  1. Dr. Thompson mentions in Luchino Diruse's 6th Character Day/Birthday Letter, Luchino Diruse: Investigation Notes I: "We were all arguing," he said, "and Luchino remained silent until he rose to point out a crucial enzymatic reaction everyone had overlooked."
The contents of the letter Luchino Diruse shared in his 4th Character Day/Birthday Letter, The Last Page of a Record acknowledging his colleagues' failures: "I've done my best to go further on the path to knowledge. And I finally understood that those researchers who regret failing to find the answer are laughable."
  2. Alice DeRoss mentions in Luchino Diruse's 6th Character Day/Birthday Letter, Luchino Diruse: Investigation Notes I: "Driven by such restless inquiry, Luchino Diruse completed his studies in half the usual time and published several forward-thinking papers in noted journals, earning attention and investments for the institute. Alas, every collaboration ended in failure."
The conclusion of Evil Reptilian's 7th Deduction Quest, Social, mirroring the contents of his 2nd Diary: "Dr. Duquein Thompson is doing a good job in keeping his thoughts to himself, but time will tell. Perhaps I was the reason his "matchmaking" business failed, or perhaps his values came into play, "If a person can't be enticed, then he's a potential enemy."
  3. Dr. Thompson admits the truth to Alice DeRoss about reducing research funding in Luchino Diruse's 6th Character Day/Birthday Letter, Luchino Diruse: Investigation Notes I: "I am responsible for the institute's future. Some sacrifices are inevitable."
  4. The conclusion of Evil Reptilian's 6th Deduction Quest, Predicament: "Document 3: The Gila monster is 30-60 cm in length with scales, much like the ones on beaded lizards. Its color patches are bigger and more colorful. Its tail is thick and strong, but it won't grow back once it's broken off. Its venom may cause numbness to limbs, nausea, and lethargy, but it's not fatal with immediate treatment. Larger wounds may be inflamed and extremely painful."
  5. The conclusion of Evil Reptilian's 7th Deduction Quest, Nobody, as Luchino Diruse mentions in his 4th Diary: "The laboratory janitor told me about a peculiar snake. He claimed that this type of snake could grow four limbs within ten or so days. That may sound like a wild man's crazy story, but I soon realized that he's serious. I suggested to him that he should put on gloves or use other tools to catch that "snake". Perhaps we'll discover a new species together."
  6. The conclusion of Evil Reptilian's 8th Deduction Quest, Temptation, as Luchino Diruse mentions in his 5th Diary: Dr. Duquein Thompson made me an irresistible offer to study the unknown lizard species. Or perhaps it's a snake. Anyway, this means I have a chance to confirm and establish a new species. This sounds too good to be true, but how can I say no?
  7. Dr. Thompson mentions in Luchino Diruse's 6th Character Day/Birthday Letter, Luchino Diruse: Investigation Notes I: "He even proposed a study titled 'The Correlation between Spiritual Consciousness and Cellular Mutation.' What was he, scientist or mystic? Frankly, I think that cursed serpent in the lab bit not his hand, but his brain."
The conclusion of Professor's 7th Deduction Quest, Jealousy: "Unattended Diary: He will never see my colleagues' evaluation."
  8. The conclusion of Evil Reptilian's 10th Deduction Quest, Boundary, as Luchino Diruse mentions in his 6th Diary: "The wound is getting dry and rough but it doesn't hurt. My stamina has improved, I'm more sensitive to smells, and my old scars are fading. Unlike the Gila monster and the beaded lizard, the venom of this creature may change the world! I should speed up the experiments."
  9. The conclusion of Professor's 7th Deduction Quest, Curiosity: "Map: "Strange snake habitat" is marked in the forest near a village known as Lakeside Village."
  10. The conclusion of Professor's 10th Deduction Quest, Metamorphosis: "A Missing Notice: Luchino Diruse went missing in his solitary residence."
