The Controller is a non-exclusive tool and item that can be found in chests and which the Mechanic starts each game with. If found in a chest, it only has half durability. If bought from phone booth or spawned with Mechanic, it will have full durability.
Mechanic is additionally able to control the bot when downed and chaired while other Survivors are unable to do so. Her bot will also have increased decoding, and her Controller depletion rate will be slower (see Operator). However, if Mechanic herself is near the Hunter, her Controller will deplete faster.
Gameplay[]
Upon usage, a doll will appear behind you. Controlling the doll uses up durability. If the doll is hit by the Hunter, 50% durability will be taken away and the doll will immediately be downed. You will have to place the doll again to use it once it's downed. You can also heal others and decode with the doll, but calibrations will still appear while decoding for the doll if you leave it to decode (but no calibrations will appear for being left to heal automatically) by itself. If the doll is decoding a Cipher Machine, it will still use up durability even if you aren't controlling it. The doll will not lose durability while entering the password into the Exit Gates or when not being controlled while healing a Survivor who is not operating it.
Hunter Effects[]
The doll is able to have its soul siphoned and wavered by Wu Chang. The doll will be targeted by Leo's Phantom, but cannot pick up Nightmare's Ravens. The doll can have its ability to decode locked by the "Disciple"'s cats. The doll will not gain any of the Naiad's humidity. The doll can be encased in wax by the Wax Artist and will be incapacitated if hit by his hot wax.
Survivor Effects[]
The doll can be moved by the Prospector's Magnets, the "Little Girl"'s Memory Fragments, and the Cowboy's Lasso. The doll can not go through the Priestess's Passages.
The doll is considered male by the game as it uses male idle animations and the Cowboy will not take double damage for it and will decode slower in its presence. When the Mechanic has the Camera accessory equipped, the bot will use female idle animations, but it is still considered male by the game.
Persona[]
The doll is not affected by Survivor Personas. This means that Self Deception will not prevent the hunter from detecting the doll's failed calibrations, Survivor's Instinct and Brewing Effect will not increase its decoding speed, Symbiotic Effect will not trigger while the doll is running towards a chaired survivor, and Air Walk, Horsefly Effect, Risky Move and Knee Jerk Reflex will not trigger while being chased by the Hunter. Carrying Risky Move on Mechanic will not increase the doll's rescuing speed.
The doll is affected by Hunter Personas. It will trigger No Survivors and Addiction, and will receive decreased decoding speed from Panic.
Exclusive User Bonus[]
When the Controller is spawned with a Mechanic, it will have 100% durability compared to the 50% durability found in chests. The Mechanic's Controller will also degrade 33% slower compared to another Survivor with a Controller. She is able to use the Doll while incapacitated or while on a Rocket Chair.
Appearance[]
It is a small, metal controller with a gauge meter, a red joystick with a blue button and an antenna.
Costume Changes[]
Its appearance can be changed when the Mechanic has the following costumes equipped, even if a different character finds one in a chest:
- S-Tier
- Everlasting Flowers - Her Controller is shaped like a heart. It has various flowers around it; two of them are gold flowers, but one is a large pink rose with gold petals.
- Lockheart - Her Controller is a gold heart with multiple old-fashioned dials and buttons, and a gold antenna topped with a matching heart-shaped sensor emitting prismatic light.
- Red Riding Hood - Her Controller is a wooden block with ornate bronze metalwork curling around the corners. At the top is a pointed metal spike.
- A-Tier
- Candy Girl - Her Controller is a cat-shaped biscuit with a blue candy cane antenna.
- Chiaki Nanami - Her Controller is a small, handheld console resembling a pixelated spaceship.
- Cunning Smile Disease - Her Controller is a black sphere with a smaller bronze circle in the middle attached with multiple red and blue wires, and a grey handle. Multiple bronze rods resembling antenna stick up, and coiled around them are grey spring-like wires.
- Dormant Koi - Her Controller is a flat black disk with a grey screen and a black indicator needle, with glowing green and red buttons as well as two antennae sticking out of either side, with one glowing purple and the other glowing gold.
- Futaba Sakura - Her Controller is a white tablet with a black screen.
- Jiu Yue - Her Controller is a turned off white mobile phone in a red phone case with a golden dragon decoration across it and a charm in the form of a red and gold dragon attached to it with a red string.
- Just Around the Corner - Her Controller is an open blue coin purse with a gold clasp.
- Misa Amane - Her Controller is a red cellphone.
- ORACLE - Her Controller is a white tablet with a black screen.
- Paper Heart - TBA
- Puppeteer - Her Controller is a blue crystal wrapped in black vines.
- Re-swim - Her Controller is a rubber ducky on a floatie.
- Fine-Tuning - The controller is now brown, the antenna now has a more 'retro' design, the handle of the lever is black.
- The Returned - Her Controller has a black gem with golden-black wing handles. A ruby formed to resemble a falling star is studded in the center. It also has a little devil horns in the top.
Accessory Changes[]
Mechanic[]
Special effects will change the appearance of the doll when the Mechanic has the following accessories equipped:
- S-Tier
- Camera - The doll resembles Misa Amane, with blonde hair in two pigtails.
- Pocket Watch - The doll resembles a metallic version of the Mechanic's father.
- Quiver - The doll wears a hooded hunters' outfit with a bow and arrow behind its back.
- Usami's Magic Stick - The doll wears Usami's outfit, with an oversized rabbit head.
- A-Tier
- Heart of the Machine - The doll has black tentacles (similar to the ones growing out of the accessory) growing out of its back, and a heart that matches the one on the accessory on the left side of its chest.
- Fairy Ring - The doll wears a grey mushroom cap with a dripping black texture similar to an Ink Cap mushroom on its head and small glowing mushrooms growing on its body.
- Fox Doll - TBA
- Resistance Meter - The doll has large, glowing blue eyes, a gold antenna with rings, and sparks crackling around its body.
- Ocean's Whisper - The doll wears a summery, Hawaiian outfit comprised of a haku lei, a pa'u skirt, and a seaweed top and lei around its neck.
Lucky Guy[]
Its special effects will change when the Lucky Guy has the following accessories equipped:
- S-Tier
- Hellfire Chest - A spherical light source which is mostly red emanates from within Lucky Guy, while two smaller but equally bright spheres of light orbit him. (applies to Lucky Guy instead of the doll)

Trivia[]
- The global fanbase of IDV likes to call the doll, "George", while the Chinese Server has nicknamed it "Wawa."
- For a brief period of time, when the Mechanic had the Camera accessory equipped and her bot was co-op decoding with the Patient, there was a bug where the Patient would receive a decoding debuff as though the bot was a female survivor. However, the bot was still considered male by the Cowboy's gameplay mechanics during this time, so it is unclear why the Patient's gameplay differed.
