This used to be a small prosperous fishing village, but now the waves on the stony beach bring only the wreckage of the past.

Lakeside Village is a map available in Identity V. The map is set in an abandoned fishing village, surrounded by a dense forest at the foot of a mine. A part of it is also a plot close to a lagoon with mountains on three sides, and the only way to get to it is through a narrow mountain path. It was released on August 23, 2018. There are 8 chests that spawn on this map, and 37 Pallets.

Background[]

Lakeside Village was once famous for its charming lake and fascinating rocky beach. Lately, after a period of never seeing villagers from Lakeside at the market, people became curious. All was revealed when someone brought news about how they survived a tornado, and - more importantly, how Lakeside Village was now a place of terror.[1]

A bitterly cold winter’s night. A hurricane suddenly struck the mountain area near Lakeside Village, throwing a huntsman from atop the mountain into the Lake. He struggled and swam to shore, but realized that Lakeside Village was far from its self of days past. Under the moonlit gloom, the thatched roofs swayed. The huntsman did not see bustling crowds. He couldn’t even sense any signs of life at all. He noticed a blazing fire in the distance, but after approaching it, only saw a pot of burnt stew, its cook already disappeared without a single trace. Lakeside Village’s warm, lively thatched cottages had already been replaced with a deathly still silence.

The experienced huntsman spent a long time in the forest, and all he saw while walking through Lakeside Village were abandoned boats and unsupervised sheds of fishing goods. The huntsman tried his damnedest to remain calm, and at last relying on his tenacious willpower got him out of the village. In an effort to understand what happened in Lakeside Village, the huntsman shared what he saw with the public, and that was when the people of the neighboring villages had a sudden realization; they suddenly understood the true reason why the villagers of Lakeside no longer participated in the market anymore. Nobody knew where in the world they all went, and from that day forth, nobody dared to step foot in this mysterious village. This once rich and beautiful village has never seen anyone again, leaving only the food, tools and weapons in the shack. The police investigating the matter heard that strange lights appeared in the sky before the villagers disappeared.

The once-bustling docks are filled with waste boats now; crows fill the skies, as if what is shipped out from here now is no longer hope, but endless darkness. In the wheat fields still stand tall slowly turning windmills, and in the farmland weeds grow with reckless abandon. The only escape gates lie at the far reaches, flickering with a faint light, an omen of your final, uncertain chance of survival.[2]

Compiled Overview[]

Lakeside Village was once a small, quiet town, well known for its good-natured villagers and its beautiful scenery.

Unfortunately, tourists' and visitors' children began to go missing, and an investigation was launched on the village. Unbeknownst to all outsiders, the Lakeside villagers worshipped the "Lagoon God", and the majority of them were devout disciples who would often perform sacrifices of both animals and human children to their God during the sacrificial ceremony in hopes of their wishes being granted.

Surveyor Volcker Berlgund was dispatched to Lakeside Village and took note of the villagers' behavior, but was ultimately sacrificed to the lake god as well after the villagers saw through his intentions. While the investigation was ongoing, a novelist who also visited released a horror novel titled Lakeside Trails, inspired by his holiday event of attending a feast for the lake's spirit. The novel was a big hit among the community, and also popularized Lakeside Village's name once more.

Suddenly, all of the Lakeside villagers disappeared overnight, with no sign of them moving away. Empty boats were found in the middle of the lake, and shortly afterward, the author of Lakeside Trails was also reported missing, a large pool of blood found in his suite.

Now, Lakeside Village stands as an abandoned fishing village - its story, a mystery.

Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]

  • As mentioned in Priestess' first birthday letter and also implied by the in-game scenery, Lakeside Village is geographically near to Golden Cave.
  • The Feaster is almost certainly the god residing in the lake.
    • However, his involvement in events and motivations are unknown.
  • Naiad is also from Lakeside, but her vengeful massacre's timing on Lakeside Village is unknown.
  • The reason of the villagers' disappearance is unknown, but certain events may have also lead to such an end:
    • The lake god may have been enraged by the disposal of Geisha's corpse in the lakeside waters; as mentioned in The Feaster's second character day letter, sacrifices must be equivalent to live virgin women or children, and a corpse being thrown into the river by a villager would have been an insult to him.
    • The villagers' choice to sacrifice via burning may have enraged the lake god as well.

Notable Locations[]

Shore[]

The shore is located at the South of the map. Several market stalls and smaller beached boats are located on the shore and two small, abandoned shacks are located near the shore.

Dock[]

The dock is an area located on the shore that extends to the sea. It connects to a large shipwreck. Although this is a notable location on the map, it is relatively small.

Working Windmill[]

The Working Windmill is located between the small house and the boatshed. If a Survivor or a Hunter is nearby, the Windmill windows will light up purple. If the Survivor or the Hunter left that area, it will flash for a few seconds before dimming.

This allows observant players to detect the Hunter's or Survivor's location.

Shipwreck (Large Boat)[]

The shipwreck is a large, dilapidated ship that can be explored. It has two floors by default (excluding the basement). Three entrances to the ship can be accessed by players; a large hole on the side of the ship that faces the shore, the stern that connects to the dock, and a makeshift ramp made out of wooden boards that leads to the second floor of the ship. There may be a cipher on the second floor of the ship (a certain chance in Duo Hunters).

Village[]

The village covers most of the map and is located North from the shore. It is the main location in the map and includes several abandoned buildings, multiple small huts made out of hay, and six functional windmills.

Boatshed (Small Boat)[]

There is an abandoned boatshed that includes a small landbound boat that can be accessed by players. There is a small opening at the back of the boat where players can vault. The only way to get to the boat is by a ramp that leads to the boat. Geisha, however, can dash to survivors on the boat through the opening at the back of the boat. Hunters may also use blink by aiming at the opening and teleporting to the boat.

Cornfield[]

The cornfield covers a small amount of the village and is located near an exit gate and a large cabin. Multiple cornstalks cover this area of land, so there is a chance hunters may lose survivors who excel at hiding in the cornfield.

Exit Gates[]

The exit gates are located at the Southeast of the map near the shore and to the Northwest of the map near the cornfield.

Character Spawns Locations[]

There are 7 possible character spawn location groups on this map.

Note: The actual spawn points of Survivors will be refreshed at random within 15m of the marked positions on the map.

Area Selection[]

There are 12 possible area selections on this map.

Cipher Locations[]

There are 5 possible cipher spawn point groups on this map.

Basement Locations[]

As with the other maps, the Lakeside Village only has two possible basement locations:

  • The basement can spawn on the first floor of the large shipwreck.
  • The basement can also spawn inside the large cabin near the cornfield.

Dungeon Locations[]

The dungeon has a total of five possible locations to spawn around the map:

  • In the center of the small market area on the shore.
  • Next to a large boulder near the ramp that leads to the second floor of the shipwreck.
  • Near a large boulder that is close to the Southeast exit gate.
  • Next to a small building near the boatshed.
  • Next to a windmill at the middle-left of the map.

Additional Gameplay Tips[]

  • As a hunter, try not to spend too much time chasing survivors on the large boat, as it is the strongest kiting location on the map.
  • Make use of the 2-story height and use the falling attack trick when possible to help cut chases faster.
  • Going into the water of the shore on either side of the large boat slows down players of both factions.
    • Survivors may run to this area while under the effects of Tide Turner to slow the hunter's walking speed towards a rocket chair.
  • If a Survivor or a Hunter is within a certain range of the functioning windmill, the windmill windows will glow purple.
    • This allows observant players to detect the Hunter's or Survivor's location.
  • Teleport is a good choice for large maps, especially for hunters who do not have high mobility. Hunters with high mobility may use Peepers to apply pressure instead.
  • Control Freak for rocket chairs is a good trait for larger maps, as survivors may overestimate how much time they have to rescue, and therefore rescue late.
  • Due to the large map size, hunters who are very mobile tend to have an easier time on this map, such as Wu Chang or Breaking Wheel.
  • Hunters whose gameplay is based on map control as opposed to pursuit or camping may gain an advantage due to the map size, like Mad Eyes or Dream Witch.
  • While difficult to pull off, Soul Weaver can snipe people at a distance on the second floor using the gaps in the wood.
  • Hermit can use Attachment from the second story of the large boat, which allows him to traverse a large distance across the map.
  • Survivors like Priestess or "Little Girl" are good support choices for large maps, as they can cross long distances quickly.
    • Priestess' long portal can help teammates get away from the hunter.
  • Embalmer can make use of the map size to waste the hunter's time with his coffin.
  • Toy Merchant can use the height of the boat to glide instantly after vaulting the railings. Her catapults can also be placed on the second story of the boat, allowing her to glide a huge distance.

Frenzy Rhapsody Gamemode[]

Frenzy Rhapsody takes place in a version of Lakeside Village that contains the following modifications:

  • There are various platforms on the map, two of which are symmetrical in location and shape, and they serve as the starting platforms for both teams. You will appear on your team's platform upon joining a game or revival.
  • The tentacles of the Feaster are at the center of the map, and they will attack Survivors with special balls periodically.
  • There are leaf trampolines throughout the map that allow you to jump up.
  • Balls will be refreshed at random locations in the map. Balls in the distance will be outlined.
  • The map description is changed to: "A carnival in an uninhabited village— the last shred of warmth before nightfall."

Map Changes[]

The following changes refer only to adjustments that affect gameplay. Cosmetic effects and other easter eggs can be found under the trivia section.

  • Treasure chests used to be found along the shore to provide different bonuses to each faction. This was implemented during Season 1. See more under trivia.
  • Map changes during Season 8:
    • The small kiting area with 1 pallet and 1 window between the shack and shore area used to be a windmill. It was changed to ease transitioning.
    • A similar (1 pallet, 1 window) kiting spot on the other side of the map was also added to help survivors transition.
      • This area used to have some low walls and pallets.
  • The rocket chair against a fence in front of the log cabins was added during Season 22.
  • Adjustments from Season 23:
    • The small kiting area near the gate at the boat was changed to have more pallets and be in an S shape.
    • An entrance to the big boat from under the ramp was added.

Trivia[]

  • This map was the only map where players could receive temporary perks for the rest of the match.
    • Previously, players were able to pick up treasure chests from the seaside by the Shipwreck that granted temporary buffs for both hunters and survivors. This feature was implemented after maintenance on July 20, 2018, and removed on [~].[3]
    • Buffs that could be granted included an increase in movement speed, healing one damage, or increasing presence by one hit.
    • Despite there being no patch notes ever mentioning the removal of this feature, it is no longer present in the game.
  • Lakeside Village takes heavy inspiration from Cthulhu mythos. Its setting is possibly inspired by An Inhabitant of Carcosa, and the storyline of the novelist who visits and his discoveries is a reference to The Shadow over Innsmouth.
  • Several new easter eggs were added after the version 2.0 update:
    • The words "GRACE IS DUMB" carved into the large rock near the log cabins.
      • This refers to the Naiad being mute, not unintelligent.
    • A figure of Dream Witch that fades in and out near the dock.
    • A fishing basket filled with some framed photos and small figurines by the large rock in front of the small fishing boats in the middle of the map.
    • A "missing" poster with the Female Dancer's portrait by the stairs on the second floor of the large boat.
    • Something that appears to be a sparking clock atop the crates in the shack.
    • A large fish and some fishing tools hanging on the wall inside the small wooden archway between the shack and the shore.
    • A yellowed poster of the Feaster hanging on the small boat with an anchor in the water.
    • A poster reading "LAKESIDE TRAILS" on the rock by the gate near the dock.
    • A welcome poster on the walls of the log cabin area.
    • A "missing children" poster on the wall of the 1 pallet 1 window area near the dock gate.
