Mrs. Darragh is the adoptive mother of Evelyn Mora, the "Faro Lady".
Appearance & Personality[]
Not much is known about her personality, but it is mentioned Mrs. Darragh has a preference for quiet but intelligent children. She cares for Evelyn, and had taught her tricks and skills that helped her in life to obtain an extravagant lifestyle.
Within "Faro Lady's" Background Story Trailer, she is depicted as a fat woman, with short black hair, which curls to the side from her bangs and back, a serious expression, big nose, and wrinkles. She is wearing a long brown dress, white collar shirt, with a dark brown bow wrapped around her neck, brown puffy sleeves and white cuffs, small pearl earrings, and a black scarf around her shoulders.
Compiled Overview[]
Mrs. Darragh is an owner of a club, who regularly attends charity events. She eventually adopted Evelyn from an orphanage, and taught her to become a "Faro Lady". Evelyn learned multiple tricks and to use her beauty and conversations for what she desires, however, after these trainings, Evelyn lost her sense of smell and taste. To compensate, she gave her a life of luxury, and warmth from a friend and mentor.
Due to their lifestyle, and special "ingredients", they ended up in debt. During a fight with the creditor, Evelyn accidentally shot the creditor, becoming wanted for murder, just as she reached adulthood. Using the tricks taught by her adoptive mother, she escaped from the police's trail, but eventually, Mrs. Darragh had a severe lung disease called Tuberculosis, and was in need of immediate treatment. A man named Villhelm Lamb then offered to help Evelyn's mother, so long as Evelyn agrees to a contract, in which it is stated she must work for him for 10 years, and raise and teach new "Faro Ladies".
At some point, Mrs. Darragh receives a mysterious letter from an unnamed sender in Cape Town (implying to be one of Villhelm’s associates) to congratulate her for raising a well-known student. They praise Evelyn for her loyalty without hesitating her actions once despite her youth and inexperience. However, they assured Mrs. Darragh that their boss has no plans to “rescue” her daughter yet while Evelyn must endure her trials alone for now. They recalled the time how Mrs. Darragh handpicked Evelyn as the frailest candidate back at the orphanage and bluntly questioned Mrs. Darragh’s life choices not about Evelyn’s beauty or obedience, but to admire her cunning and survival instincts Evelyn showed as a child when she manipulated situations to gain extra food or attention to win Mrs. Darragh’s notice.
Eventually, the sender compares Mrs. Darragh’s own experience to her tutor who spent a whole year chasing her down across the world. They also point out Mrs. Darragh’s health decline and suggests her regrettable burdens may die with her. Although, they subtly warn her not to encounter Villhelm’s “Lordship” in Liverpool, hinting at an unresolved danger or debt. Mrs. Darragh helped her daughter during this period after she got her treatment from the disease.
Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]
- It's implied from Evelyn's first deduction that she was purposely trying to get adopted by Mrs. Darragh.
- This might mean Mrs. Darragh had a well known reputation at the orphanage.
- It could also be implied that Mrs. Darragh has adopted children from the orphanage before, given the line about what type of children she prefers.
- Mrs. Darragh might've adopted Evelyn from the same Orphanage as Alice, the Myles Orphanage, however, it could also be Orpheus' orphanage.
- It is implied from Evelyn’s 2025 Letter that in the past, Mrs. Darragh was another “Faro Lady” who rebelled or ran away from the organization to avoid becoming much like her predecessor in an endless cycle, unlike Evelyn who stayed loyal and would do anything to help her mother out.
