Mrs. Kreiss was the mother of Andrew Kreiss. Due to Andrew's albinism, they were ostracized from the town. At one point, their landlord, Mr. Marshall, evicted the two of them due to the rumors regarding Andrew. In the notice, Mr. Marshall recommends that she abandon her "cursed child."[2] Despite these rumors, Mrs. Kreiss never abandoned Andrew. However, as a result, she faced hostility from the people around them.[3] For a currently unknown reason, Mrs. Kreiss knew of her upcoming death. Close to when she passed, she wrote Andrew a letter. In it, she told Andrew not to cry when she passed as "death may separate people, but ultimately reunites them."[4]
