Mrs. Nicholas Orsonville was Sangria's close friend and helped her summon a "God". She was deeply moved by Bloody Queen's story and received the original version of The White Steed of Death.

Appearance & Personality[]

Nicholas is described as a woman with a ram symbol painted in-between her eyebrows and a "stroke of red" within her background story. It is mentioned that she got very close to Sangria, however, she is also described as a "bad person" in Sangria's Design Notes. Additionally, she is described as a noble and a distinguished lady from Paris.

In Sangria's trailer, she has long, dark brown hair, tied into a bun at the back. She wears a red dress with white ruffles around her chest area. She has a long cape, tied around her neck, with a collar around it. She wears a red sun hat, with a black ribbon tied around it, a white ribbon bow is located around the right-front side.

Compiled Overview[]

Background[]

Nicholas is a renowned and wealthy noblewoman who was born in France. At a certain point, Nicholas attended to the Salon Cohen-Bloemer[1] in Vienna and was profoundly moved by Frederick Kreiburg's masterful performance of the Downpour Impromptu. Once the concert has ended, Nicholas addresses a letter to him about praising his brilliant composition and encourages him to bring his talents to Paris where he would be more appreciated. Eventually, she also offered to arrange a residence for Frederick in the Saint-Germain district and invites him to serve as her artistic advisor for an upcoming opera with an a modest honorarium of thirty thousand francs to free him from distractions.

In due time, Nicholas was one of the selected draft readers that's been allowed access to review Orpheus's manuscript called The White Steed of Death. She was moved to tears by the lingering phantom, interpreting the ghost's unwillingness refusing to submit to fate and its potential as an opera. Inspired by this, Nicholas immediately corresponded with Mr. Lafanel in London of recommending Orpheus to meet Frederick to discuss adapting this story into an opera.[2]

When The White Steed of Death was first published in French by La Revue de Paris, the Kreiburg family mainly protested the portrayal of Mary de Capet. At the same time, Nicholas intervened by reading the original manuscript in a private preview, conceiving admiration for it. She also ensures Mr. Lafanel's publishing agency that the product would be shielded from the family's interference and purchased the operatic rights. After the original version was dispatched to Nicholas in Paris, she rewarded Mr. Lafanel with full payment of francs. However, she no longer reached further contact with him about the news.[3]

First Encounter[]

Following the events, Nicholas became a member of the audience that enjoyed and had seen all of an opera singer's performances in Siena. At some point, Nicholas sent an exquisite card and gifted her a black cape of good quality. She also hoped to meet her that night backstage, knocking on her dressing room and met Sangria. From that point on, Sangria and Nicholas grew close once they got to know each other.

Eventually, Sangria's father had found out about Sangria once again becoming closer to a member of the audience, as a result, he punished her by abusing her, whipping her, and putting her inside a small closet from her childhood. Shortly after, Nicholas left a note beneath the brow pencil that said "Pain is the path to rebirth". Sangria repeated Nicholas' words, over and over again, and that night, she performed a ritual, likely with Nicholas' help. A lamb's throat was slit and candles were brightly burning, summoning a "God". Eventually, Nicholas even painted the same ram symbol she had in-between Sangria's eyebrows.

However, at a certain point, they had parted ways, likely due to Sangria's father's death. At some point, Nicholas would soon "punish" Sangria to take her voice away. As Sangria yearned to return to the stage once more, she sent a card to Nicholas. As hoped, Sangria was on the stage once more, and as she performed in the opera house, a fire was set ablaze, she jumped in the fire, and none of the audience members came out alive.

Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]

  • It is likely Nicholas was a cultist, indoctrinating and manipulating Sangria to get her to take part in performing a ritual in summoning the "God".
  • It is unclear if Nicholas is alive, as all audience members died, it could be theorized Nicholas passed away in the process, but it could be she is still alive due to her being a cultist of the "God" she and Sangria summoned.
  • In Sangria's 2024 Letter, Nicholas is referred to as "Mrs. Nicholas", meaning she was married, or divorced/widowed, as Mrs. can still be used then. (such as Melly being referred to as Mrs. Plinius.)
  • It is theorized that Nicholas might live in Saint-Germain, a district that's part of the sixth arrondissement in Paris as she set up a residence to hire Frederick as her artistic advisor, meaning that she could've organized a meeting there.
