This article contains information on a Truth & Inference Character.
This character is part of an alternate universe within Identity V called Truth & Inference, which is not connected to the game's main storyline.

The Novelist is a writer and the main suspect of the Mélodis Manor Incident, "The Goddess Vanishes". He is the protagonist and narrator of the light novel Beneath the Truth and is a minor character in the Truth & Inference universe.

Background[]

The Novelist is an avid writer living in the city that, while not extremely successful, was relatively respected by the public. Over time, he fell out of favor with his audience as they believed he had lost his creative talents. Falling into poverty, he struggled to regain a name for himself and could not find any accepting publishers, until finally he received an invitation from a local nobleman known as "D.M." who stated to be a fan of his work, and wished to sponsor him in order to allow his writing to reach the masses once more.

Appearance[]

Little is known about the Novelist's appearance except for the fact that he is a young man with average looks. He is stated to wear a coat along with a suit which is a size too small, likely due to his financial situation.

Personality[]

The Novelist is a polite and rather passive person, avoiding conflict as best he can and preferring to observe instead. His unassertive nature means he often tends to be self-deprecating and rarely fights back against being belittled, albeit many of his negative opinions on others tend to be kept within his thoughts rather than spoken aloud. Being a writer, he is a creative person and will often use the events he witnesses as inspiration for his stories. He is curious and very observant, noting down small details about the events and people around him, albeit he can be slightly naive with his perceptions on occasion. Despite not always being correct, he is shown to be decently intelligent and attempts to make his own theories during the case with Mr. Inference. The Novelist is shown to be quite nervous and easily panicked, getting extremely worried about the many inconveniences that he encounters, but this may be amplified due to his desperate situation and financial stress. In addition, he appears easily flustered when around those he admires, particularly Earl "D.M.", stuttering in his speech and becoming increasing meek. He appears very kind-hearted, going out of his way to ensure the well-being of others such as Daisy when she was burned during the small fire in the Mélodis Estate.
