| This character's true name and identity is Chloe Nair. During the Manor Game they are known by Vera Nair, which they stole from her twin sister after killing her, assuming her identity. Therefore, very little lore about "Vera" is actually about the real Vera, usually referring to Chloe as Vera. |

Backstory[]
Character Introduction[]
A famous perfumer from Grasse. After years of searching, she received inspiration from a mysterious perfume recipe and created 'Euphoria', a perfume that helps you to forget about your worries. Unfortunately, the aroma doesn't last long enough. She has no other choice but to go to the source of the formula and find a way to improve it. Hopefully, the owner of the manor can help her to relieve all of her worries.[7]
Chinese Character Introduction[]
With her unusually sharp sense of smell and persistence in fragrance, she became an excellent perfumer. Countless young people from wealthy families were fascinated by her perfume and even more impressed by her charm. However, no matter how many suitors flocked to her, no one could impress Vera - the extravagance and decadence of the merchant class exuded a smell of decay that no perfume could cover, which she couldn't bear.[8][9]
Character Relations Menu[]
A mysterious perfume formula inspired Vera to create her unique "Euphoria." Just a whiff made anyone lose themselves within it.
But it was ephemeral, and she could never make it last. In the end, the Perfumer's obsession with perfection drew her to the source of the formula—the Oletus Manor.

Letter to "Vera Nair" (2020)[]
Dear sis:
I'm doing great. Everything's been great. Everyone's been great.
So great that I'm scared.
Because I know, deep down, why these things happened.
It's you.
It's "Vera Nair."
I'm exhausted from being the only one who knows what it's about.
If only I can forget about everything.
Love,
Your sis
Vera's Manor Diary (2021)[]
The First Night
That painting exuded a strange and familiar scent, like an invitation from a demon...
A curse of the past.
I saw myself back in that hopeless place—that "dump" where people spend their days flattering and scorning one another, and the stench of faults and judgments constantly fills the air and invades the nostrils. There, in the filthy "quagmire," I also saw that solitary "lily" lying before me, soiled by the blood and the muck...
That strange smell, a reeky yet floral fragrance... To encounter it once again after that day, and coming from that painting, no less! Perhaps this is the cause of the "illusion"?
Even more ridiculous is that I always took him to be a coddled, normal, young nobleman, still unlearned in the ways of the world but nevertheless willing to leave home in search of excitement. How incredibly naive...
Perhaps none who came here could be considered "normal."
I have no idea how he did it, but regardless of his methods... He is no less dangerous than that "aberration."
I must remain vigilant. I cannot afford to let my consciousness be altered like that again.
That which is forgotten need not be recalled, and I have no need of memories. Yes... I do believe I must find that herb as soon as possible.

Serial No. 5-0-2
Name: Vera Nair
[Test Indicators]
1. Alert and oversensitive
2. Mentally fragile
3. Has a conscience
[Inclination]
One who treads on thin ice as she tries to escape reality.
[Test Results]
1. Overall Evaluation: Subject 5-0-2's test level that humans inherently possess an evil nature was lower than expected.
2. Methodology:
Subject 5-0-2 is a skilled perfumer with an extremely sensitive sense of smell. The test's medicine may not affect her. Therefore, it's necessary to invest in other factors in the experiment can affect Subject 5-0-2's emotions. And in an attempt to accomplish that, a believer who claims to be able to contact the dead through spiritual means was added to the test group.
As for the provision of perfume making equipment, our deduced model suggests that the advantages of providing such equipment outweigh the disadvantages. The risk that the test's medicine may be analyzed does exist, but in her state of emotional instability, the likelihood that Subject 5-0-2's rational emotions dominate for her to analyze the medicine is quite low. Conversely, the likelihood that Subject 5-0-2 makes custom perfume to influence other test subjects is much higher.
3. Analysis Summary:
The provision of equipment was necessary and correct. Subject 5-0-2 didn't just use her custom perfume on other test subject, she even used it on herself. To a certain extent, that was a driving force behind the experiment, and it led to a dramatic outcome for the 4th and 5th days of the experiment. An unexpected result of the experiment was the discovery of Subject 5-0-2's defensive usage of her custom perfume, and this indirectly demonstrated the influence of Subject 5-0-3's hypnosis. However, the test subject's final results did not meet expectations.
Subject 5-0-2 was expected to act out of "fear" and engage in "radicalized seizing." (Renewed fear from her environment and memories of the dead, and the usage of inverse evasive measures like seizing respect, seizing fame, and seizing love, which gradually escalates in an effort to stay away from past events.)
However it is clear that Subject 5-0-2 only demonstrated the former during the experiment and did not act in an unscrupulous manner as suggested by the deduction model. Even though Subject 5-0-2 did form a temporary agreement with Subject 5-0-3 to place Subject 5-0-5 at a disadvantage, Subject 5-0-2 did not seize more from other test subjects to guarantee her absolute safety. Even after she recovered her memories, she displayed signs of a lingering conscience by suffering something close to a mental breakdown.
Conclusion: Subject 5-0-2's results did not meet expectations. The deduction model is in urgent need to revision.
A Torn Page Wrapped in a Handkerchief with a Missing Corner (2023)[]
If you've opened this note, it means you may have forgotten something.
(A few crossed out and blacked out letters) Vera, everyone here is unbearably arrogant. It's almost time, but none of us can be certain if that bottle of medicine, which someone must drink to start the game, is part of the rules or someone's trap to eliminate a rival in advance. We have no choice but to do as required of us and eliminate one of us in advance.
That man who is actively attempting to form an alliance cannot be trusted. When he came to see me and took out his pocket watch, I once again found myself falling into a strange trance... I wasn't hallucinating this time. I didn't smell anything, but I still felt dizzy. My consciousness was in a mess, and the strange smell of blood enveloped me as I fell into darkness... until I smelled the perfume that was prepared in advance. Lately, I've been drifting into memories more than ever, but I cannot allow meaningless hallucinations to haunt me! I should not think of my younger sister, Chloe... No, I should forget Vera (A few words have been crossed out and then blacked out).
After my mind cleared, I disguised my condition to the man. He seemed to think that everyone would obey him in this state... What a joke! But that is also why he let down his guard toward me. He's an overconfident guy, and that may be useful to me in the future.
He only questioned me this time. Next time, he might make me a sacrifice. Luckily, the perfume works on him too. I must prepare in advance and improve some formulas.
If I can find the plant known as "Delphi" in the notes, then maybe I can produce the most perfect form of Euphoria. Unfortunately, it doesn't grow in the garden, and I can't find it anywhere. I have no choice but to increase the ratio until I obtain the ultimate peace. In this rotten swamp of strife, this fragrance is my only paradise. It's reassuring to know that smells can be shrouded... and so can memories.
A Message (2024)[]
She can pick the precise scent she needs from complex aromas, but she can't make her life choices with the same precision. Pure aromas can bring a moment of peace, but they can't fill the deepest longings of her heart. She tries to find the perfect recipe, yet when fate extracts the strongest tincture, she discovers her true nature is the opposite of what she once fantasized about.
Vera Nair: Investigation Field Notes I (2025)[]
As a celebrated perfumer with her own establishment, Vera Nair's disappearance was a subject of considerable gossip in high society for some time. Matters were further complicated when, quite suddenly, someone revived the long-forgotten disappearance of Vera's younger sister, Chloe Nair. This gave rise to all manner of conspiracy theories. Whether out of a desperate need to restore the family's tarnished reputation, or to halt the precipitous decline in sales at Vera's perfumery, the Nair family proved most cooperative once I agreed to pen an exposé. They furnished me with extensive records of Vera's shop purchases over many years, granted me access to the family's flower fields in Grasse, and permitted me to explore the locales rumored to be Vera's sources of inspiration—endeavors which proved most helpful in my inquiries.
Still, the information they provided detailed Vera Nair's movements and life rather than Chloe's. It was clear the Nair family did not believe the two disappearances were connected—they dismissed notions of a common serial killer, or some dark family conspiracy, as the idle speculations of those seeking sensationalism. Considering the timing of Chloe's disappearance alongside the drastic changes in the perfumery's purchasing ledger (previously, Vera Nair had never procured ingredients through the shop, always journeying personally to Grasse to bring back new scents, which is why Grasse was initially regarded as her wellspring of inspiration), I began to form a hypothesis regarding Vera's fate: perhaps the order of events was entirely misconstrued. Maybe the sister who vanished first was Vera Nair, and the celebrated perfumer who later rose to fame was, in fact, Chloe.
Vera Nair
Once this secret exchange of identities dawned on me, the first question that inevitably arose was: why did Chloe assume Vera's place? And why, having done so, did she continue the search for the elusive formula of "Euphoria," a quest that ultimately led to her own disappearance?
Taking the time of Chloe's disappearance as a pivotal point, I re-examined my notes from the Grasse interviews, attempting to infer Chloe's state of mind at the time. Fortunately, owing to Vera Nair's constant public display of protectiveness towards her sister, I had also gathered numerous accounts of Chloe Nair from others. I had initially sought these to determine if Chloe's disappearance had caused Vera's personality to change—now, these collected testimonies served me in an entirely different capacity.
Though neither Vera nor Chloe were born in Grasse, they had spent a significant portion of their lives there. The charming town, bathed in sunlight and carpeted in flowers, had sparked Chloe's initial fascination with perfumery. She poured her passion into the vast fields, and nature, in turn, generously rewarded her with its fragrances. Unlike Chloe, Vera garnered more attention within high society—a distinction I felt keenly during my interviews with Grasse's residents.
Even those who had interacted with Chloe often described her primarily as Vera's sister. This consistent marginalization likely made her own disappearance later on pass almost unnoticed, inadvertently sparing her some trouble. Yet, I suspect Chloe was hardly pleased by such disregard.
Only one person remained with a distinct recollection of Chloe: the elderly woman who had tended the Nair family's land. From her descriptions, I tried to reconstruct Chloe's character in her youth and search for clues as to why she might have taken Vera's place.
According to the gardener, Chloe was a girl of remarkable talent. She could discern which twin-bloomed flower had basked longer in the sun, or which leaf had soaked up more morning dew.
"Resin, wild mint, rosemary... even the pruned branches. Miss Chloe could always blend them into unexpected scents," the gardener emphasized.
She added, almost as an afterthought, that while Chloe was somewhat shy, she was not averse to conversation and was exceedingly kind to those close to her.
"Once, she used dried lavender, geranium, a touch of citrus peel and fig, and a pinch of thyme, to create a scent. It smelled like a flower field after the rain. Quite refreshing. She gave me a vial. Sniffing it when my head ached brought considerable relief."
Regrettably, while the gardener praised Chloe's perfumes effusively, age, experience, and other factors meant that the scents Chloe produced at the time could not yet rival the classic perfumes of established houses, especially in a town as notoriously discerning about fragrance as Grasse. Furthermore, Chloe's lack of a prominent social standing was insufficient to make the town's connoisseurs express much anticipation for her talent or future creations.
The frequent cold reception she endured stood in stark contrast to her sister's widespread popularity. I believe both Vera and Chloe were aware of this: Vera stopped bringing Chloe to parties, instead becoming the first to experience Chloe's new creations, enthusiastically promoting them to anyone who inquired, even though the responses were often merely polite and halfhearted. Chloe, for her part, devoted more and more time to perfumery. During this period, she likely regarded her talent as her sole support, believing that only by creating a perfume that commanded universal admiration could she prove her own worth.
"When the name Vera Nair began to command respect in perfumery circles, known for works that were bold, innovative, and deeply inspired by nature, what are your thoughts on those pieces?" I had asked the gardener.
The gardener hesitated, then shook her head. "I never imagined Miss Vera possessed such talent. Perhaps the similarities between the sisters ran far deeper than we outsiders ever saw. The perfumes were lovely, but compared to the light, natural works of Miss Chloe, Miss Vera's perfumes possessed a certain... stronger quality? A certain assertiveness, perhaps? Especially after Miss Chloe's disappearance."
"And do you recall when you last saw her?"
"I remember it well. It was the day the papers announced the opening of Miss Vera's perfumery. It was raining that day. Miss Chloe appeared suddenly, asked if I still suffered from headaches. Then she pressed a vial of perfume into my hand. I knew at once it was the same scent that eased my headaches."
The gardener nervously wrung her fingers. "I wanted to refuse. It was far too precious! But Miss Chloe insisted, saying she must give it, and asked if I still thought her perfumes were not good enough."
I urged the gardener for more details, but she confessed her memory of the specifics was hazy. She could only vaguely recall that on that day, Chloe seemed unusually lacking in confidence about her work, repeatedly seeking the gardener's affirmation of the perfume's value, whereas before, Chloe had at least believed in her own creations and in her ability to gain more recognition through perfecting her craft. It was only after the gardener accepted the perfume that Chloe finally offered a satisfied smile.
"After that, no one saw Miss Chloe again. I always thought she had simply moved away, perhaps seeking a quieter life elsewhere, as she wasn't happy here."
"Did she mention her destination?"
The gardener strained to recall, but ultimately shook her head. "I can't quite remember. I don't think she did. It was raining hard, and Miss Chloe left in a hurry. But her scent lingered in the rain for a long time before fading."
The news of Vera opening her perfumery likely proved the catalyst for Chloe. But beyond Chloe herself, few could have understood the source of the emotions this news provoked. As an observer, I could only note the final, most direct outcome: during this period, the veiled "Vera" did not shun social invitations. She attended numerous parties, even proactively mentioning her missing sister, feigning deep concern.
Yet, even the missing sister became another talking point for the perfumer.
Changes in her demeanor were not entirely unnoticed, but much like no one had deeply investigated Chloe's disappearance, the clients drawn by the promise of fine perfume never bothered to inquire about the true Vera. They readily accepted Vera's explanation.
Finally, not even Chloe herself spoke of "Chloe" anymore.
This silent transition, while seemingly fulfilling Chloe's long-held dream, did not bring her the satisfaction one might expect. "Vera" became less frequent at parties and, faced with a bevy of admirers, was less amiable than the original Vera. The description of "haughtiness" began to circulate regarding "Vera's" reputation. Some found it alluring, others found it off-putting, but she paid it no mind.
"Vera" never returned to Grasse, at least not according to any public record. Her shop continued to purchase large quantities of various ingredients. I suspect it was during this time that Chloe seriously began her quest for the formula of "Euphoria." No longer needing to please others or seek validation, this perfume was likely crafted for herself. Its creation suggests she still had not found inner peace or contentment.
Even now, when I visit the perfumery, I still see customers lingering by the window, awaiting the return of Vera and her next labor of love. The recognition Chloe craved is being realized, albeit silently, by the passing of time. But what deep sorrow lies buried within her heart, the kind she wishes could be forgotten? I suspect it still involves Vera, though only Chloe herself knows whether the lingering ghosts she sought to cast off were the innocent camaraderie of the past, or some unspoken guilt.

Compiled Overview[]
Backstory[]
Chloe and Vera were born as identical twins to the Nair family and was raised in Grasse, France. They had spent a significant portion of their lives in the charming town that was bathed in sunlight and has a father who runs their family’s store. However, Vera was popular among the high society, while Chloe was seen as strange and somewhat shy due to how often she tinkered with perfumes and oils, including not aversing to conversations and being exceedingly kind to those who are close to her. At some point in life, Chloe began experimenting with plants from her family’s flower fields. She collected Resin, wild mint, rosemary and pruned branches to mix them into unexpected scents to help cure a gardener.[CO 1] She expanded these mixtures with additional ingredients such as dried lavender, geranium, citrus peel, fig, and thyme. She started to share her test with a local gardener and provided notable relief from headaches with fragrance.[CO 2] While the gardener praised Chloe's talents and other factors meant for scents she produced at the time, they did not yet achieve the refinement or recognition of the established perfume houses particularly within Grasse that’s renowned for its discerning standards in fragrance. Sometime, their father, Craig Nair, told Chloe that if she ever wanted her work to be appreciated, she must cease her strange ways.[CO 3] Her sister Vera, however, was always supportive of her sister and even wrote in her diary to wishing people that will recognize Chloe’s talent they could dream of.
Sooner or later, Vera stopped bringing Chloe to parties and became the first to experience her sister’s new creations. Chloe carefully blended a recipe dedicated to her sister. She gathered two roses, balanced with five parts sandalwood, and softened the mixture with one part geranium and one part rosewood. Vera promoted them to anyone who can inquire to try out the scent. Even though the responses were often merely polite and halfhearted, Vera opened a perfume shop where Chloe could sell her products, and with the quality of the perfumes combined with Vera's popularity, the shop was a success. With her exceptional talent in creating and crafting rare scents, she has gained much attention in the past few weeks. Unfortunately, Chloe misunderstood this as Vera stealing her work, and she killed Vera and stole her identity.
Shortly after, "Chloe" (who is apparently Vera) had vanished into thin air. No one ever questioned the disappearance of Chloe and never bothered to inquire investigating as they were currently drawn by the promise of the shop’s fine perfume. During this period, "Vera" (who was actually Chloe) accepted social invitations from aristocrats and attended numerous parties for guests who inherited a superior status. While appearing to express deep concern over her missing sister, she repeated prepared statements to maintain the deception. She was satisfied at the attention and recognition she gained from the high society for using her sister's identity.[CO 4]
Later on, when Chloe found her sister's diary and read it, she realized that she misunderstood Vera’s true intention and had killed the only one who had truly loved her.[CO 5] Overwhelmed with grief and wanting to forget the incident since she truly regretted the fact that she killed her twin sister, she created 'Euphoria'. However, she was unable to perfect its recipe, starting a search that led her to the Manor for ingredients. Chloe never returned to Grasse, at least not according to any public record. Her shop continued to purchase large quantities of various ingredients.

Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]
- It is theorized that the perfume Euphoria has memory altering qualities, or at least, that it is supposed to help the user forget.
- According to the Anniversary Tales Booklet, it seems to be implied that "Vera" is running out of ingredients for her original recipe, and neither does she have a scent that lasts long enough to make her worries go away.

- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Wu Chang's 2022 Letter confirms the location as Lakeside Village.
- ↑ First Officer's 2022 Letter implies that an Executioner was present in this Manor Game, monitoring Jose’s mental state specifically. However, this direct confirmation remains unclear.

- ↑ 5.0 5.1 5.2 In First Officer's 2023 Letter seemingly implies that Edgar, Vera, and Jose finished their Manor Game. But as Edgar is implied to be dead from his 2024 Letter those were likely Jose's delusions.

- ↑ Enchantress's 2023 Birthday Questions state that Cowboy was the only one spared by Enchantress but it is unknown what she spared him from but it is possible that Kevin was spared from the death of poison he had drank to protect her.

- ↑ Perfumer's 2022 Letter uses 5-0-5 while other letters use 5-?-5.

- ↑ The Gardener In Vera Nair's Investigation Field Notes I: "Once, she used dried lavender, geranium, a touch of citrus peel and fig, and a pinch of thyme, to create a scent. It smelled like a flower field after the rain. Quite refreshing. She gave me a vial. Sniffing it when my head ached brought considerable relief.”
