Philosopher's Stone is a Limited S-Tier Costume for the Night Watch, Ithaqua. It was introduced in Season 32 Essence 3 (The Proof of Azoth's Theorem).
The costume's essence was obtainable between July 4th and July 25th, 2024.
Appearance[]
Physical[]
Ithaqua now possesses longer white hair that appears to extend down to below his shoulders. The upper ends are styled into waves with sharp tips, with most of his hair swept out of his face. His skin is pale and unmarred. His eyes still retain their black sclera, though his irises are now white. He has a smiling expression, showing white teeth. His hands appear to be made of ruby and are unusually sharp and glistening.
Outfit[]
Ithaqua wears a peculiar golden headpiece shaped to resemble what looks like bat wings and golden teardrop earrings. The top half of his face is covered by a gold and ruby masquerade mask, however part of the ruby side appears to have been broken or shattered to reveal one black eye. The fire symbol is carved between his eyes.
He wears a crimson brocade cloak with a high collar and golden embellishments, with a crimson scarf with golden hems and diamond patterns running down it draped over the brocade. One side of it seems to be crumbling away. The inside of the brocade is a scaly gold, and a golden ouroboros symbol can be seen on the back. A golden piece with intricate designs and a triangular ruby across his chest hold the two sides of the brocade together.
Underneath the cloak he wears a crimson vest matching the brocade with long sleeves split towards the ends and held together by golden buttons with small golden chains drawn between them and gold hems over a high-collared white, golden buttoned shirt with long sleeves extending past the vest's and possess a frilled, shell-like pattern. He also wears skin-tight white pants with three golden buttons on each side, and tall crimson boots with golden tips and gold patterns around the hem.
His stilts appear to be made of gold, but seem to be encrusted with ruby. The upper portion of the stilts fashions two golden, entwined snakes with a sword in between them, which sports a golden crown-shaped hilt which the snakes appear to be hissing at.
Weapon[]
The ice axe has been replaced by a long, black handled scepter, the bottom end sporting a sharp golden tip. The top of the scepter is adorned by a gold piece of two snakes entwined, reaching to the top however facing away from each other. A smaller pair of snakes with their mouths open are seen inside the center circle of the staff, mouths open to a triangular ruby housed in a gold rim and circle. A crown-shaped piece, also of gold, sits on top of the ruby's circle. The crown itself is circled by smaller rubies. What appears to be an Erlenmeyer flask with a black bottom and a bright red stone cased in it dangled from one of the outer snakes, held on by a golden, bell-like apparatus with a small, thin golden chain.
Special Effects[]
Alchemical symbols fall down around him. A large circle with a triangle in the center and runes around the edges glows on his back. A similar circle glows on the end of his weapon. The eye exposed from his broken mask has a sparkling rainbow effect coming off of it.

- Design Idea Plans
This essence revolves around the theme of alchemy. The characters in the essence all have their own understanding of alchemy, and therefore choose different paths. The overall costume is based on the interpretation of mysticism and is decorated with a large number of alchemical symbols, ores, and magic circles, which constitute the essence of this essence's visual features.
Specifically for each character, these elements are represented by the alchemy content they are good at. "Philosopher's Stone" is the supreme pursuit in alchemy: we use red and gold to correspond to the final products of alchemy, "Philosopher's Stone" and gold respectively. The concept of "fire" element and redness is supplemented by Ouroboros, elemental symbols and crystal elements to express. The other two characters were designed with colors, symbols and decorations around the "water" element and the "air" element respectively, as well as the themes of ores and gases.
In the ancient library, "Philemon's Altar" is waiting for the answer from the little man in the bottle, "Stibnite" is looking forward to the birth of noble metals, and the "Philosopher's Stone" is still trying to demonstrate the truth of the world until the end. We hope that we can also see traces of different ideals in their images.
- Design Idea Sketch

The costume style adopts the clothing of the 1900s, and on this basis, some interpretations of medieval Gothic robes, cloaks and other clothing are made to create a sense of mystery in style.
The overall costume is made of leather or heavy velvet texture. Based on the mystical interpretation, it is decorated with a large number of alchemical symbols, minerals, words, etc., such as the fire element mark with . The leg stilts use entwining flower and snake elements (same as the Ouroboros concept).

Between the two options in the first version, first option was chosen in order to avoid overlap with previous costumes. The head is exposed more, strengthening the elemental character of the triangle.

Subsequently, the outline of the hair was strengthened, the special effects and materials were optimized, and Night Watch - Philosopher's Stone S costume design was completed.
- Model Details Description[4]
Only after being forged in the fierce fire can the truth be revealed.

- His brow and eyes are halfway concealed by a mask, and the symbol for the element of fire is engraved on his forehead. His long silky silver hair is neatly tucked behind his ears and frame a rebellious smile as flamboyant as a flame tempered into gold.
- His magnificent cloak accentuates his tall figure. Bright red "gemstones" gleam radiantly, while ouroboros coils around him, almost as if they were hissing.
- His scepter is encased in four ouroboros that guard the crimson philosopher's stone. Ancient writing and symbols record the greatest secret that led to this untainted and pure object.
- Showroom Interface Design

The luxurious cloak symbolizing the supreme truth is suspended in the air, quietly waiting for the owner holding the scepter to come. Mysterious alchemical symbols are swirling around to form a wonderful magic circle.

Opening the classics he carried with him, he drew strength from the ancient and remote proverbs. He believed that he had cracked all the metaphors and mysteries and was about to complete the great work.
- In-Game Display

The alchemical formations on the cloak are clearly visible, the flask reagent equipped with the Philosopher's Stone sways with his steps, and the snake-shaped stilts are lingering with ember-like brilliance, eliminating the boundaries of rationality.
Trivia[]
- The Philosopher's Stone is a legendary alchemical substance that was supposedly capable of turning ordinary metals into gold or silver and create the elixir of life. It is sometimes referred to as the "fifth element" or Illiaster.
- His scepter features several snakes, which are stated to be Ouroboros. An Ouroboros is a symbol of a serpent eating its own tail, representing the eternal cycle of life and rebirth. The scepter design also resembles a caduceus, a symbol of the Greek god, Hermes and his Roman version Mercury.
- Despite the fact that the serpents are not shown to be eating their own tail, they are stated to be Ouroboros in the Official Website Design Notes.
- The four serpents may also represent the four stages in the process of creating the Philosopher's Stone: Nigredo, Albedo, Citrinitas, and Rubedo.
- The red and white color scheme may be in reference to the two commonly described colors for the stone. The gold accents likely represent the ultimate goal of the stone: to transmute normal metal into gold.
- It may also refer to the "chemical marriage" of the Red King Sol and the White Queen Luna. The result of this union is the Philosopher's Stone or the perfect being, Rebis.
- In Maria's Axiom, this costume possibly represents the "Third", which is a stage of spiritual growth when opposite forces and duality of person become balanced, leading to transcension.
