Lakeside Village Investigation Report (2020)[6][]
Dear Miss Gilman:
Our Surveyor Volcker submitted his first investigation report a month ago.
Volcker is of the view that there are unusual religious activities in Lakeside Village, which may adversely affect the upcoming investigation.
In fact, we all agree that such religious activities may put the Surveyor in danger.
As Volcker has already applied for leave, we will confirm whether he will continue with the investigation after his leave ends or will we send another surveyor to Lakeside Village.
The following is the original report from Volcker:
Investigation Report 1
September 12, after numerous rejections, I found a room with immigrants Eugene Hayward and Marjorie Hayward. The terrain of Lakeside Village is odd. The villagers’ main living area is enveloped by forest at the foot of a mine. A part of it is also a plot close to a lagoon with mountains on three sides, and the only way to get to it is through a narrow mountain path.
Investigation Report 2
September 13, I tried to go to the lagoon plot again. There were villagers guarding at the entrance, and I only got permission to go in after some negotiations. There is an entrance to a cave in the northern part of the lagoon plot, where several suspicious personnel dressed in yellow robes were on guard. I didn’t attempt to get close.
Investigation Report 3
September 15, a large boat appeared on the shore of the lagoon, and guards in yellow robes were on guard. I think they may belong to a certain religious group, and they have certain privileges in Lakeside Village. The villagers wouldn’t answer my questions about them. Eugene and Marjorie called the guards “Disciples”.
Investigation Report 4
September 17, I tried talking to a Disciple who turned out to be surprisingly friendly. This religion didn’t have a name, or he wouldn’t tell me. Anyway, according to the guard’s description, they strive to disseminate the will of “god”, and practice the loving principles of “god”. However, this “god” lived in the bottom of the lagoon in Lakeside Village, and people must offer a sacrifice in order to get god’s love. He didn’t tell me anything about the method of sacrifice or the offerings.
Investigation Report 5
September 19, after 2 days of hinting, Marjorie told me something about the sacrifice. She once hid from the mountain top and secretly observed the sacrifice activities from afar. The Disciples threw offerings from the boat and a giant shadow soon rose to the surface of the lagoon. The villagers yelled out their wishes from the shore, so loud that their voices reached the mountain top. Regrettably, it was too far for her to see what the offerings were. According to Marjorie, the villagers’ wishes all came true. But the wishes she described were just daily needs. From my investigation experience, I think it’s just a scam that the wishes come true.
Investigation Report 6
September 21, I visited each and every villager in the past 3 days and told them about my desire to know more about the legend of the lagoon god. They were extremely manic about this topic, so I got sufficient information. The Disciples were in charge of the offerings used in sacrifice activities, which are livestock. After throwing the livestock into the lagoon, the lagoon god would rise to the surface and the villagers would tell the lagoon god their wishes. This part of the description is consistent with what Marjorie told me, but the part which Marjorie didn’t understand was where the Disciples opened the sanctuary to the north of the lagoon after the wishes were made, and took the remains of the offerings inside for the last part of the ceremony. But no villager knew what the last part of the ceremony was. I think it may be risky to ask the guards about that, but the next sacrifice will be held in 5 days, and I will find a way to go inside the sanctuary to investigate.
We have yet to receive Volcker’s seventh investigation report. We play to get in touch with his family so that he will submit the report as soon as he gets home.
All the best.
Yours faithfully,
Arthur Russell
A wrinkled page (2021)[]
My dear friend Napoli:
This is the fifth day since I got here.
We still haven't received any message about the commencement of the "Jamboree".
At the current stage of our investigation, the prime suspect is a woman named Gilman.
The woman arrived on the third day wearing really peculiar clothes. She was eccentric and always kept her distance from others. She would disappear in the afternoon every day and reappear at dusk smelling foul (despite her clothes looking clean throughout).
I tried to follow her but failed as she seemed to disappear into thin air. (Given my profession, this is quite upsetting).
However, all this suspense is beginning to clear up.
Today, the fifth participant arrived—he wouldn't tell us his name and simply said he's a writer.
He arrived almost at the same time as another biologist. But since he introduced himself last, I considered him the last one to arrive.
Gilman was clearly paying an unusual amount of attention to this writer. They even has a chat between themselves in a language I couldn't recognize—I have no idea what they were talking about.
Yet I realized that this writer has a familiar scent, just like the humid and muddy scent Gilman came with at dusk every day.
Perhaps I can try to follow this writer tomorrow and see if I'll come into something new.
(The handwriting below has become illegible as the piece of paper had been submerged in water for a long time.)

Serial No. 6-1-3
Name: Fiona Gilman
[Test Indicators]
1. Self-confident and skeptical
2. Romantic
3. Prophetic
[Inclination]
Prophesying according to her insight into the "will of the divine."
[Test Results]
1. Overall Evaluation: No. 6-1-3 uses her extensive education and philosophical mind in search of the truth of her faith—a truth of her own construction.
2. Methodology:
No. 6-1-3 arrived perfectly on schedule. Given her understanding of the situation, No. 6-1-3 quickly chose No. 6-0-5 as her first target for investigation. Initially, No. 6-1-3 saw uninterrupted progress, eventually leading to her taking over the entirety of the project. However, following the unfortunate accident that claimed No. 6-1-2's life, No. 6-1-3 began showing a keen interest in No. 6-0-5 and the Lakeside Village. This, in turn, brought her to the attention of No. 6-0-5 and No. 6-1-4. Following the introduction of No. 6-1-6, No. 6-1-3 was almost able to avoid being "sacrificed" by No. 6-0-5 due to her extraordinary intuition. A moment's hesitation, however, caused No. 6-1-3 to miss a crucial piece of "divine insight," and lose her chance to escape.
3. Analysis Summary:
After confirming the stability of the medicine's effects, I decided to extend an invitation to No. 6-0-5. For the longest time, I lacked a large enough control group, but that all changed after No. 6-1-3 appeared.
A candidate "provided" to me by an old friend, No. 6-1-3 has the potential to bring this entire experiment to an unfortunate and premature end. However, a unique test subject such as herself is more than worth the risk.
This has been, without a doubt, my most dangerous experiment to date, as well as my most successful one.
No. 6-1-3 is intelligent, alert, and highly motivated, and her special abilities allowed us to discover a fragment of the truth lying at the bottom of the lake. No. 6-0-5's story filled the gaps in her understanding and left enough space for the medicine.
By far the most well-informed participant in the entire experiment, No. 6-1-3's individual results have given me a greater understanding concerning the selection of the test subjects.
Choosing subjects with above-average intelligence and providing them with more comprehensive information leads to far fewer obstacles throughout the experimentation. On the contrary, it adds a degree of truth to those baseless fears from before.
In the end, "truth" and "faith" are like the images seen on a phenakistoscope—
"They can been seen, shaped, and discarded... but never touched."
The same goes for her... and for me.
A tattered page full of water stains (2023)[]
This afternoon marked the fifth time I've been to the lakeside.
I ran into that person again. He was standing in the same spot next to the shipwreck and looking toward the direction of the forest on the opposite shore. I asked him for the fourth time — what did he see at the bottom of the lake when he was young?
Different from the last three times, he replied with a question that perhaps was only known to our language,
"What do you want me to have seen?"
I couldn't give him an answer, and it didn't seem like he was hoping for one. He continued to ask,
"Haven't you been there before? What did you find?"
I was a bit surprised. I have indeed been to the bottom of the lake, but I thought no one knew.
At least no human...
Yet pretty soon, I was somehow relieved. Everything was going as I expected.
Then again, this remained a question I couldn't provide an answer for.
There was nothing... It was not that my search was fruitless.
But the fact that I couldn't remember anything about the bottom of the lake.
I have a recollection of going into the Holy Key, but I had no memory of what the other side of it was like.
Whenever I came into consciousness, I was already standing by the lake, cold and wet. Just as where he was standing.
I didn't want to continue with this meaningless conversation. After all, I still have to prepare for the "game" tomorrow.
As I turned to leave, he asked me one last question,
"Miss Gilman, have you ever wondered — perhaps we weren't looking for the answer and that it was the answer summoning us?"
As I stood there, the familiar feeling of being cold and wet came over me.
Back in the land of gold, someone had asked me the same question.
I swiftly turned around but found myself all alone by the shipwreck, with the water from the lake splashing on the crumbling ship.
For the first time ever, the water from this lake which I thought was always still was rising over the shore.
A Message (2024)[]
"For Fiona Gilman, it has become an instinct to search for answers. She abandons the mundane explanations in favor of more perverse and grotesque thoughts, listening to the ravings of the chaotic void. She's not turning back until the doorway leads her to the ultimate truth. Those blasphemous messages have left her completely lost in the astonishing view of the answer."
Fiona Gilman: Investigation Field Notes I (2025)[]
Among the list of missing persons tied to the case of Lakeside Village, Fiona Gilman was one of the first to leave a lasting impression on me. A young woman with a degree in Astronomy from the University of Edinburgh, Fiona had already taken notice of the village's peculiar religious activities before the mass disappearance occurred. She had even begun investigating them herself, perhaps driven by a belief in something beyond the material—a faith that may have guided her, but ultimately led to her undoing. Tragically, her pursuit of the "divine will" brought her into the heart of the bizarre "Carnival Games," where she, too, vanished without a trace. Like many others, she became one of the faceless victims swallowed by the eerie lake. But the enigma surrounding Fiona Gilman and the village itself should not be buried beneath its cold, stagnant surface.
............
Fiona Gilman
When it comes to Fiona Gilman, the first detail that stands out is the unmistakable aura of mysticism that seemed to cling to her like a shroud. From fragmentary records in the manor archives to interviews I conducted in Edinburgh, I have managed to piece together a rough psychological profile of the woman.
Fiona was born into an esteemed family in Scotland and raised in an atmosphere of intellectuals and academics. She was regarded as a child prodigy, her brilliance in astronomy and mathematics a source of immense pride for her family. Yet, despite her accolades, the woman who emerged was anything but the demure, ladylike figure one might expect. Her appearance and demeanor seemed more suited to an outsider—someone always on the fringes of society, shrouded in mystery and whispers of occult practices. Strangely, those who knew her well didn't appear particularly shocked or disturbed by her disappearance. Even her mother, Mrs. Caroline Samwell, a renowned astronomer herself, displayed an unsettling indifference.
I still recall the brief, unsettling encounter I had with Caroline and those suffocating green eyes.
At the time, I was gathering information to complete Fiona's missing-person profile and had learned that Fiona had sent a letter to her mother before vanishing. My instinct told me the letter could reveal something crucial—perhaps even a link to the strange religious rites that seemed to consume Fiona's thoughts. The police had discovered that Fiona had hired a private investigator to explore the myths surrounding Lakeside Village and its supposed lake god. The investigator's correspondence could shed light on the mystery. So, I contacted Mrs. Samwell and arranged a meeting.
Due to a tight schedule and an unfortunate storm, I arrived late, only to be met by a dismissive maid, who coldly suggested I return the next day. Like a hapless student caught in an awkward situation, I had no choice but to retreat into the rain and return to my temporary lodgings.
The following day, I made sure to arrive on time. This time, Caroline herself opened the door.
"I'm glad you managed to arrive on time, Ms. DeRoss," she said.
Her words, though polite, didn't sound like praise. The tone was clipped, and her sharp, almost clinical gaze scanned me from head to toe, as though she were dissecting me, assessing some hidden flaw. That gaze—cool, composed, yet heavy with unsettling weight—still sends shivers down my spine when I recall it.
She served me a steaming cup of Earl Grey and cranberry cookies. As I sat across from her, she quickly skimmed through the materials I had brought, setting them aside with casual indifference. Her response to Fiona's disappearance was unnervingly calm—almost detached—as if it were just another minor inconvenience in her life.
"She's done this before. She's probably off somewhere again, as usual," Caroline remarked. To her, Fiona's disappearance seemed as unremarkable as a fleeting inconvenience, not the unnerving tragedy it appeared to be.
"Don't you think she's missing?" I pressed, my mind racing with unanswered questions. "I've seen the reports—her room was left undisturbed, her personal belongings, even her identification documents, were all found there..." But these details did nothing to change Caroline's demeanor. In fact, they seemed to irritate her.
"I know my daughter better than anyone, Ms. DeRoss," she said, her voice suddenly hard, cutting off further discussion. She summoned the maid, who handed her the letter—a simple birthday greeting that Fiona had sent her mother. It was nothing more than a few distant words about mundane matters—no hint of the mysteries surrounding Lakeside Village.
I left the house with the maid, who had been working for Caroline for years, and she offered some kind words of reassurance. The maid explained that Caroline's coldness was simply the result of her forceful personality and urged me not to take it personally. As we walked, the maid shared more about Fiona's formative years, painting a picture of a troubled relationship between mother and daughter. Fiona had been a brilliant child, excelling in astronomy and mathematics from a very young age, much to Caroline's delight. But Fiona's father—an accomplished writer—disagreed with Caroline's strict educational philosophy. He believed that literature, philosophy, and imagination were the true foundations of learning. The couple's ideological rift led to their separation, with Fiona's father leaving to wander the world in search of some elusive, mystical truth. He sent letters to his daughter, filled with strange ideas and new-age toys.
"Do you know the little spinning toy?" the maid asked wistfully. "The one that creates strange images? It used to be in Caroline's living room."
"A phenakistiscope?" I replied. Oddly enough, I hadn't noticed such an object in the living room.
"Yes, that's it. Caroline smashed it once because Fiona kept playing with it instead of studying. It was later repaired, but they fought about it a lot. Fiona, despite her brilliance, started to become... well, strange. Pardon me for describing Fiona that way, but that's how Mrs. Caroline described her. They all said she'd gone mad—lost touch with reality because Caroline had forced her into a life of rigid study. But I don't think that's true. Fiona was always as clear-headed as her mother. She didn't mind the studies—she just had something else she had to do... something far more important."
From the maid's account, I could begin to see the shift in Fiona's behavior. The emotional turmoil caused by her parents' divorce, combined with her mother's oppressive need for control, had thrust Fiona into a state of profound inner conflict. The clash between her mother's obsession with rationality and her father's pursuit of the esoteric seemed to fracture both her mind and spirit. Torn between the need for truth, the desire for connection, and the pull of the unknown, Fiona's beliefs—once suppressed—began to take root after she came of age, gradually growing stronger and more impossible to ignore. Ultimately, they led her down a path of faith with no end or resolution, and her relationship with her mother was irreparably shattered.
But I suspect that the wisdom and knowledge Fiona inherited from years of discipline, along with the unbreakable bond between mother and daughter, still flowed through her veins. This likely explains why she exhibited such remarkable calmness, sharpness, judgment, and decisiveness during that mysterious manor game—traits that helped her uncover truths beyond the reach of others. Yet, what exactly were those truths? And how were they connected to her and the others' disappearances? These questions remain unanswered.
As we parted ways, I couldn't suppress my curiosity and asked the maid one last question.
"Why do people say Fiona went mad?"
"They say that a few years ago, she was often seen standing alone at the top of Carlton Hill, speaking to thin air, looking all delirious... Though some claim it happened on the castle's high tower. The details are still being debated, but the rumor that she lost her mind has spread everywhere."
I couldn't help but recall Mrs. Caroline's firm denial of her daughter's disappearance. In that moment, I couldn't tell whether her certainty was a subconscious resistance to the tragic news or if she knew something and was hiding it from me. This only deepened my confusion over the credibility of these rumors.
Is there, in this world, a reality like the images in a phenakistiscope—both a tangible truth and a visual illusion? Is my perception of reality the same as everyone else's? Or, to put it another way, is the Fiona in my eyes the same Fiona seen by Mrs. Caroline and the others?
What was it that Fiona, far from home, had been desperately searching for? Was it another kind of untransmittable truth? Or something unreachable, both ultimate and illusory?
The answers elude me still, shrouded in darkness and uncertainty. But one thing is certain: the mystery of Fiona Gilman and the cursed village must hold the key to the truth I am desperately seeking.

Compiled Overview[]
Fiona was born to an unhappy husband and wife. During her youth, they would divorce, with Fiona's father leaving the two. Fiona's mother would try to encourage her to be anything but what her father was like, telling her not to indulge in the fantastical. Fiona, however, was naturally drawn to occultism. At some point, she would receive a letter telling her to head east and explore the world and to go to the land of gold. During this, Fiona's mother would try and educate her. Fiona found her mother's expectations daunting, self describing herself as "dim-witted". Another letter would arrive, this time with a ticket to Calcutta. Fiona would travel there, much to her mother's disappointment.
At some point, Fiona would hire Arthur Russell to investigate Lakeside Village, learning about the religious activities, the disappearances, and about the neighboring cave. Using this information, she would make her way to the location to participate in a "Jamboree".
Events at the Manor[]
Fiona would be the 3rd participant to arrive. The identities of those who arrived before her are currently unknown. Fiona was being investigated by one of the participants who attempted to track her. Fiona would disappear in the afternoon, seemingly into thin air according to her investigator. She would then reappear at dusk with a notable foul smell, despite her clothing appearing clean.
Some time later, two more participants would arrive, a biologist named Luchino Diruse and another participant who refused to give his name, only referring to himself as a writer. Fiona and the writer would hit it off, talking to each other in an unknown language.
After the 2nd participant was killed, Fiona would show more interest in the writer and Lakeside Village. In secret, she would investigate the bottom of the lake using her Holy Key, but would be unable to remember what she saw. On her 5th visit to the lakeside, she would run into the writer. She asked him for the 4th time what he saw at the bottom of that lake when he was young only for him to ask her what she wanted him to have seen. He then, to her surprise, questioned her about what she saw, as she thought no one human had seen her go down here.
As she prepared to leave to prepare for the "game", he asked her if she ever wondered if they weren't looking for the answer but, rather, the answer was summoning them, a question she had been asked before in the land of gold. She turned around, but saw he had vanished and that the water from the lake was rising over the shore. She would vanish leaving only a puddle, becoming one of the writer's "sacrifices".
Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]
- Fiona is involved in the Lakeside Village Investigation, which may give her connections to other characters from Lakeside Village
- In particular, it is known that the deity she worships is Yog-Sothoth, based on the name of her SS-Tier costume, The Envoy of Yog-Sothoth and her original Character Introduction. Additionally, she may have connections to the hunter Hastur, due to Yog-Sothoth being his parent in the Lovecraftian Mythos.

- ↑ This person (and their death) is mentioned in Priestess's 2022 Letter. It is possible they died some time before the main event of the Manor Game could start, and so had to be replaced by 6-1-6, similar to how the Servais Le Roy replaced the missing Murro Morton.
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 According to Priestess's 2022 Letter, Fiona was "sacrificed" by Arthur Byers at the Manor.
- ↑ It is implied that Arthur Byers is the Survivor Identity Switch for The Feaster, but this is currently unconfirmed.
