Princess Lamballe was one of Mary's closest and most loyal friends while she was alive.

Compiled Overview[]

Princess Lamballe was Mary's closest and most loyal friend. Their closeness had sparked rumors of a shameful secret between the two.[1] At one point, Countess of Polignac was encouraged to replace Princess Lamballe at the Summer Palace due to their closeness.[2] Princess Lamballe was the first person in the room when Mary had her first child, a girl.[3]

During the French Revolution, Princess Lamballe remained by Mary's side while others such as Countess of Polignac fled.[4] It is unknown exactly what happened to Princess Lamballe but it is likely that she perished during the revolution.

Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]

  • Princess Lamballe is based on Marie Thérèse Louise of Savoy (Princesse de Lamballe) who was one of Marie Antoinette's closest friends.
    • Rumors by anti-monarchist propaganda spread that Princesse de Lamballe was Marie Antoinette's lesbian lover. This is likely what the "shameful secret" mentioned in Mary's deductions is.
    • Princess de Lamballe was killed during the French Revolution, making it likely that this is what happened to Princess Lamballe
