Background[]

AOMScaredHospital NewsClipping

Sacred Heart Hospital: Another vagabond was recently found dead at the site of the Sacred Heart Hospital. His body was partially decomposed and the cause of death is suspected to be poisoning.

A devout Christian lord of the manor decided to build a church hospital in his territory to provide basic medical protection to his residents. After consultation with a local church, the hospital was named "Sacred Heart Hospital". The hospital is mainly a low two-story church-style building, and was originally planned to have red Medina sandstone exterior walls throughout the building, but due to budgetary constraints, most of the walls were constructed using only bricks. Another notable feature of the hospital is that it has a circularly curved connecting corridor to prevent too many beds from being placed in the aisle.

The hospital was still under construction when it opened in 1830, with the first floor completed first and the second floor and stairs not completed until 1840. After that, Sacred Heart Hospital was successfully operated as a small regional hospital and received high praise. However, after a fierce conflict between doctors and patients, no one came to the hospital and rumors of ghosts began to occur frequently. Why did the facility that was once used as the Sacred Heart Hospital suddenly become abandoned?[1]

The story began with a fierce doctor-patient dispute. The hospital that was originally operating ushered in a highly-skilled dentist, but things became strange after he arrived. At the time, more and more patients were discharged from the hospital, but the registered discharge records did not increase, and some night-timers said that they had seen the dentist dragging a lot of garbage to the marshes at night.

The rumors intensified, and after a patient’s strange disappearance, angry people poured into the hospital at night. The dentist refused to admit that he was related to the missing patient and asked everyone to let him go back to complete the operation. This attitude angered many people, so he sank in the swamp and died.[2]

Notable Locations[]

Hospital (Main 2-Story Building)[]

Morgue: It is on the ground floor of the hospital. It can have one decipher machine. The term "Morgue", means a place to hold human corpses until they decompose and where they wait to be cremated.

Surgery Room: It has a surgery bed, a desk with surgical equipment and a single light. The chances of it containing a decipher machine is low to none.

Lavatory: It is an empty room with a light and a toilet in it with a single sink.

Main Room: It is usually the room that contains the decipher machine in the hospital. It has a desk, a couple roller beds, and a crack in the floor that leads to the first floor. It makes up most of the second floor.

Shack[]

A fairly large, square building made of wood and with a roof can be found near one of the Exit gates. It has a door, a vaultable window, and a pallet. A similar building is found on most maps.

Statue[]

A large statue with a roof covering can be found surrounded by some piles of garbage and a few pallets. A cipher is often found at the foot of this statue as well.

The head of the statue will face the nearest character within a short range. This allows observant hunters to determine the survivor's location.

Ruined Walls[]

Although there are 3 clusters of broken down walls along the outer edge of the map, the longest and most connected one can be found in between the Shack and the Statue. With multiple vaultable walls and three well placed pallets, this is a good place to escape from hunters. There is a medium-sized cluster of ruined walls along the northern side next to the statue, and a very small cluster on the opposite side of the map.

Exit Gates[]

One exit gate is in the corner behind the shack, while the other exit gate is in the center of the western edge across from the hospital.

Character Spawn Locations[]

There are 6 possible character spawn location groups on this map.

Note: The actual spawn points of Survivors will be refreshed at random within 15m of the marked positions on the map.

Area Selection[]

There are 9 possible area selections on this map.

Cipher Locations[]

There are 5 possible cipher spawn point groups on this map.

Basement Locations[]

Like most maps, there are two locations for the Hunter's basement.

  1. In the Shack
  2. On the ground floor of the Hospital building.

Dungeon Locations[]

There are 3 possible locations for the dungeon hatch to spawn in.

  • Near the statue, in between the square of ruined walls with a single vaultable window and locker nearby.
  • Out in the open near the western gate, next to the T-shaped walls past the 3 pallets.
  • Halfway between the exit gates, hidden in some ruined walls between the 2 pallets.

Gameplay Tips[]

Press "Expand" to see tips about playing on this map.

  • Confined Space can be a useful trait for this map, as there are some very powerful windows on this map (ex, birdcage, ruins, etc.) which can be looped to kite.
  • Destructiveness can also help, as there are many pallets as well.
  • Very mobile hunters (ex. Wu Chang, Bloody Queen, etc.) can get away without teleport, as Sacred Heart Hospital is a relatively small map.
    • Peepers can be used for some map control, or to help with chase in areas with high walls or in the hospital.
  • Hunters should try to avoid chasing survivors through the hospital building when possible, as they can easily be kited for long periods of time, even without kiting talents.
    • If you have to pursue a survivor within the hospital, Blink or Peepers can help.
    • Try to make use of the falling attack trick when possible, as you can land a hit with no recovery when falling, which can help reduce pursuit time. Do keep in mind that unless the survivor is downed, they will gain a speed boost after a hit, so you may not land a second hit instantly.
  • Priestess is known to have an advantage on this map, as she can portal through many areas on the hospital, and support kites from a central location.
  • Entomologist is also quite suited for this map, as her external trait Mixed Reagent can help herself or other survivors gain a speed boost while vaulting the many pallets and windows on this map.
    • Her swarm can also be used to block the hunter's path, especially within the hospital.
  • Toy Merchant can make use of the second story and glide without using her catapult.
    • Her catapults can also support teammates when kiting, and help them get to better kiting locations such as the hospital.
  • Even though the hospital map is relatively small, Embalmer can still gain some benefit from the second story of the hospital building if his coffin is placed there.
  • Photographer benefits from the size of the map as well, as he can cover more ground within the time of his Camera World.
  • Geisha can dash to the second story floor using the height gained from Soul Departure.
  • Violinist's Sonata can ignore the abundant number of obstacles on the map, which can effectively cut off a survivor's kiting path.
  • Disciple may struggle in the hospital, as her cats may miss a survivor if there is enough of a height difference.
  • Likewise, Breaking Wheel's Ridicule will also miss at a certain height difference.
    • Breaking Wheel may also struggle on this map due to the many narrow corners and long walls with windows.

Map Changes[]

The following changes refer only to adjustments that affect gameplay. Cosmetic effects and other easter eggs can be found under the trivia section.

Season 8:[]

  • The god pallet of the doorway at the top of the stairs is removed. This is to reduce the strength of the kiting area.

Season 16:[]

  • Previously, the birdcage had 2 god windows before one of them is replaced with a god pallet. This was changed in Season 16 to reduce the strength of the kiting area and better transition for both Survivors and Hunters.

Season 23:[]

  • The short wall near the exit gate was lengthened and a window was added. This is to allow survivors for better transitioning and looping.
  • The pallet of the small room with 2 entrances near the hospital basement location was removed. This is to reduce the strength of the transition area.

Trivia[]

  • The hospital area of this map is inspired by the Crotus Prenn Asylum from Dead By Daylight, both have the birdcage area and the second floor having holes to fall into the first floor.

Trivia[]

  • The table on the second floor of the hospital has a shadow of a figure which fades in and out.
  • There are several vases on short stone pillars scattered across the map. These vases contain a blackened, bandaged arm which reaches out with a burst of red petals when a player walks by.
    • The accompanying sound effect has been known to resemble the sound effect accompanying the hunter trait Teleport.
  • There are a few bubbly swampy patches on this map. They are a dull green and slow down players who walk through them. One of them appears to contain a torn teddy bear.
  • The statue near the hospital ruins will rotate its head in any direction to follow a player within a certain range.
  • Several easter eggs were added during the 2.0 version update. Some can only be found in custom or quick matches.
    • A bandaged figure can be seen at a distance from the broken second-floor ledge near the birdcage.
    • Coughing can be heard when both survivors and hunters are standing in the shack.
    • When a player plays as "Psychologist" and enters the room on the second floor, static will appear on a nearby machine.
