Sergi, Serge, or Sergei was a "Happy Clown" at the "Hullabaloo" Circus.

Appearance[]

Sergi is described as a handsome, fit young man, and one of his most notable features is his thick red hair.^[1]

Based off his appearance in Weeping Clown's trailer, he dresses similar to his fellow clown, Joker, with the exception that he has a yellow buttoned-up shirt, a ruffled collar, and wears a clown nose.

Compiled Overview[]

Sergi was part of a traveling circus which stopped at Lakeside Village, where a beautiful young girl named Natasha lived with her Aunt and Uncle. Natasha and Sergi were immediately attracted to each other, and he began to court her despite her Uncle's warnings. He gave her a Music Box during their courtship^[2], and as their relationship progressed, Natalie's Uncle took more measures to keep them apart such as locking her inside the house. However, Sergi sneaks through her window and offer Natasha a new opportunity for a better life outside her village. Natasha accepts Sergi's offer and changes her identity to Natalie and escapes.

After he and Natalie joined the "Hullabaloo" Circus, she became an Animal Tamer, and he once again took on the role of the "happy clown" with his stage name being "Smiley Face." He quickly rose in popularity among the audiences, and his colleagues surpassing the "sad clown" Joker, even though the latter had been there longer. After finding scars on Natalie's back, Joker was furious with Sergi and confronted him^[3]. Soon after, Joker's face was irreparably burned.^[4] Although the circus told the news it was from an accidental fire in the circus tent, a bottle of acid had gone missing from Mike's supply cabinet, which he had left unlocked^[5], and the ringmaster said the burns looked suspiciously like corrosion.^[6]^[7]

For the next show of the circus, Sergi and Natalie were set to perform their Grand Finale. However, before they could begin everyone was slaughtered and the circus tent was burned down by the "Faceless" "Carnival Killer". Although Sergi's body wasn't found, upon further investigation from the police, they still believe that Sergi is alive to this day.^[8]

Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]

He was abusive, controlling and had a temper, considering the scars he left on Margaretha which Joker saw, as well as her mentioning Sergi would rip up any letters she would try to send home to her family after they eloped.
- He broke Joker's prosthetic leg as revenge for Joker defending Female Dancer.^[9]
- Under this assumption of his personality, as well as Weeping Clown's backstory trailer showing as much, Sergi is most probably the culprit who ruined Joker's face by mixing acid stolen from the Acrobat's supply into his face paint, as an act of retaliation for being called out.
From Joker's final deduction, "New Face", it is likely that Joker stole Sergi's identity after murdering him.
Glimpses of his personality can be seen from Joker's 2021 birthday letter. The writer (likely Natalie/Margaretha, given her intimate knowledge of him) describes him as "far from innocent" and "never a fan of life's simple pleasures" such as dancing to jovial songs like the Smiley Face Polka.
It is theorized that Smiley Face, the Hunter identity of Weeping Clown, is when Sergi's identity is completely assumed by Joker, leaving little of the man before his transformation into a Hunter. The muscular, fit body type of Smiley is also similar to Sergi in appearance, though obviously more exaggerated.
