Siphon Soul and Wavering Soul are Hunter abilities belonging to the hunter Wu Chang. This ability will unlock after the first marker of Presence is reached.
Ability Details[]
Siphon Soul (White Guard)[]
The White Guard's body moves with ease, and when it fully enters the spiritual realm it won't be able to interact with anything for 5 seconds. However, its movement speed is greatly increased and it will siphon the souls of nearby Survivors. If it manages to fully siphon a Survivor's soul, their soul will be lost. When the progress of Soul Siphon is over 70% (3.5s), this ability can be canceled.
Lost Soul[]
Bedazzled and unable to interact with the environment for 10 seconds.
Wavering Soul (Black Guard)[]
When Black Guard rings the bell and casts Wavering Soul, all Survivors that hear the ringing will have to steer their resolve and calibrate with precision. While calibrating, Survivors cannot use any items or active abilities. Should they fail the calibration, they will become horrified for 60 seconds; if they fail another calibration during this time, their soul will waver.
Spiritless[]
Movement directions will be reversed for 10 seconds.
Lost Soul + Spiritless (White and Black Guard)[1][]
If a survivor suffers from both Spiritless and Lost Soul at the same time, their movement and interaction speed will be massively decreased for 15 seconds.
Lost Wavering Soul[]
Your shattered soul greatly decreases the speed of your actions.
Gameplay[]
Each ability belongs to either White Guard or Black Guard, and can only be used by the specific character.
Siphon Soul (White Guard)[]
White Guard can steal the soul of any Survivors in front of him if he can manage to absorb their soul. During the effect, his movement speed increases massively but he cannot interact with obstacles such as Pallets, Windows and etc. for 5 seconds until he his ability ends. If the Soul Siphon duration exceeds by 3.5s, White Guard can choose to cancel his ability early.
If the Survivors stays within 3 seconds from the Siphon Soul's range, they will be afflicted with Lost Soul for 10 seconds.
Survivors affected by Lost Soul will have the following negative effects:
- Survivors cannot interact with Cipher Machines, Rocket Chairs, Exit Gates, Pallets, Windows, Dungeons and cannot heal/cleanse Survivors.
- Survivors cannot see their teammates, and their HUD icons on the top-right corner of the screen will show their teammates eliminated by the Rocket Chair or Bleed Out.
- Survivors will hallucinate fake Wu Changs teleporting towards them or attacking them.
- Only the real Wu Chang will have the red light in front of them on the ground.
- Survivors will hallucinate fake heartbeats as if they are still within Wu Chang's terror radius.
Wavering Soul (Black Guard)[]
Black Guard can ring and create a blue ripple right in front of him. If any Survivors are caught by the ripple, they will be stunned briefly, and then have a small quick-time-event similar to a calibration check. Survivors (excluding the Composer) who are undergoing a calibrations cannot interact with obstacles, use their tools or active abilities until they finish or fail their calibration. If a Survivor fails their first bell calibration, within 60 seconds from the first bell, failing the calibration again will cause them to be affected by Spiritless. During the effect, their movement controls will be reversed and they will have a circling blue effect.
Lost Wavering Soul (White and Black Guard)[1][]
If a Survivor suffers from both Lost Soul and Spiritless at the same time, they will become affected by Lost Wavering Soul, and their movement speed, interaction speed and pallet dropping speed will be greatly decrease. This effect lasts for 15 seconds.
Survivors affected by Lost Wavering Soul will have 3 fulu tailsmans surrounding them.
Other Details[]
Siphon Soul[]
- Siphon Soul can be forcefully cancelled if White Guard falls down, or gets stunned by abilities or pallets.
- White Guard's movement speed increases to about 7.7m/s during Siphon Soul.
- White Guard can only use Excitement and Blink during his Siphon Soul.
- Survivors can prevent getting their souls from being siphoned by performing a Flywheel Effect just as White Guard almost finishes siphoning their soul.
Wavering Bell[]
- Survivors caught by Wavering Bell will be stunned for around 1.2 seconds.
- Black Guard will cast the Wavering Bell on where he is facing not by the in-game camera angle.
- Survivors caught by Wavering Bell will not be stunned during their Pallet dropping or Obstacle Vaulting animation but they still have to perform the calibration.
- Same applies for Flywheel Effect which not only ignores the stun but the calibration too.
- The first calibration will be overlapped with the second calibration if a Survivor is hit with Wavering Bell twice in a quick succession. Because of that, the first calibration will fail by default.
- This can be achieve if a survivor is caught by Wu Chang's Enhanced Summon and then the Wavering Bell.
- Survivors will move a small inch forward depending on where their model is facing after getting stunned by Wavering Bell.

- The effects duration for Lost Wavering Soul and Siphoned/Wavering Soul are separate.
Hunter Tips[]
Soul Siphon[]
- Use Siphon Soul to catch up to survivors in open areas, and areas with weak pallets or short loops to confuse them.
- If you managed to reach to the survivor, you can cancel it manually and get a free hit or you can continue to siphon their soul to prevent them from interacting such as Rescuing.
- Do not use Siphon Soul on areas where you maybe forced to break a pallet once they drop, or vault over a window especially in long kiting loops. Otherwise you have to wait for at least 3.5s to cancel Siphon Soul early which wastes your ability and time.
- If you have problem of finding out the invisible survivors' location such as the Magician's Decoy, check for the white bar during the Siphon Soul state to determine their possible location.
- If you suspect a Survivor is bring Flywheel Effect to negate your Lost Soul, you can rotate your in-game camera away from them just before you could finish siphoning their soul to bait the Survivor into wasting it.
- You can use Siphon Soul to prevent a rescue and buy more time for the Rocket Chair to eliminate a survivor or reach Stage Two to eliminate them faster once rescued.
- Even if you fail to siphon the rescuer's soul on time, it at least prevents the rescuer from body blocking the rescued survivor since they are unable to see the other survivors when their soul is siphoned.
Wavering Bell[]
- Wavering Bell can cancel some of the survivor's abilities if their animation isn't completely finished to activate their abilities or during their animation. For example, Wavering Bell can force Entomologist out of her circling spawn, prevents Priestess from placing her portals during her deploying animation and stops Mercenary from Iron Dashing.
- Wavering Bell can also interrupt some of the survivor's interactions such as healing, decoding a cipher machine and rescuing a survivor from the Rocket Chair. But it doesn't interrupt survivors who are dropping/vaulting a pallet or a window.
- Sometimes you have to predict the Survivor's movement behind obstacles and use the Wavering Bell ahead of them to block them or catch them by surprise.
- Use Wavering Bell before the survivor vaults over a window or use the pallet as it forces them to perform a calibration before interacting the environment again but be careful as some survivors will purposefully fail the calibration to interact quickly.
- Do not use Wavering Bell if a survivor is in a middle of the vaulting and pallet dropping animation as it doesn't stun them and will waste your ability.
- Wavering Bell is useful if the rocket chair cool-down is about to reach 50% or 100% as survivors will be forced to calibrate before they can interact with the rocket chair.
- You can also use it to interrupt the rescuing animation.
Lost Wavering Soul[]
- It may seem awesome at first, but it is actually impractical because it is very difficult to achieve and doesn't happen quite often.
- This can prevent survivors from distancing themselves too far from Wu Chang during "Borrowed Time".
- The easiest way to trigger this ability is to have the survivor fail the calibrations first and gain Spiritless before using the full presence ability to trigger Siphon Soul.
Survivor Tips[]
Siphon Soul[]
- Drop a pallet or vault a window at strong kiting spots to force White Guard to take a longer route or wait for the animation to finish as White Guard has to wait for 3.5 seconds to cancel his Siphon Soul animation.
- Do not transit to another area as White Guard can chase you using Siphon Soul and can cancel it after 3.5 seconds to get an easy hit.
- Be careful while rescuing as White Guard's Soul Siphon will completely prevent you from rescuing your teammate. Try using stuns and falling to cancel his Soul Siphon or distance yourself from White Guard as far as possible. Distract White Guard and let your other teammate rescue if necessary.
- If timed right, using Flywheel Effect can ignore White Guard's Lost Soul debuff.
Wavering Bell[]
- You can purposely fail the calibration if you need to interact with the pallet or a window, or use items quickly.
- Interacting with a Pallet or a Window prevents you from getting stunned but you will get to do a calibration nonetheless.
- If timed right, using Flywheel Effect can ignore both the stun and skip the calibration.
- Remember to act and get use to the controls quickly if your controls are reversed.
- Avoid getting your soul siphoned by White Guard or you will suffer from Lost Wavering Soul which greatly reduces your interaction and movement speed further.
- As Composer cannot trigger a calibration, he can still interact with objects immediately after being hit with Wavering Bell.
Lost Wavering Soul[]
- Fortunately it is very rare for this to happen unless you are unlucky enough.
- Be careful not to get Lost Soul and Spiritless at the same time as you will most likely to get down and risk terror shock or waste resources.

- Divine - Bi'an's compass is now a brown book with golden edges. Wujiu's bell is now gold with red and blue gems inlaid around the rim, and the handle is now a cross.
- Far East Wind - Bi'an's compass is a circle-shaped yin-yang talisman, framed in a black square. Wujiu's bell turns into gold, with plum blossoms engraved into its sides.
- Frost - Bi'an's compass is blue and white circle-shaped with some frost effect. Wujiu's bell is changed to a Frost Handheld Transmitters.
- The Binary Star - Bi'an's compass is a circular gold plate with a miniature solar system on one side. Wujiu's bell is now a silver frame with dark space matter and tentacles around the bell.
A-Tier:[]
- The Intersection Bishounen - Bi'an's compass is changed to a brown book. Wujiu's bell is a metal classic bell.
- Requiem - Bi'an's compass is changed to a new-looked book with white colored. Wujiu's bell is a sliver metal bell.
- Broken Blossoms - Bi'an's compass is metal circle-shaped. Wujiu's bell turns into gold.
- Flying Guillotine - Bi'an's compass is red, blue and green circle-shaped . Wujiu's bell is a blue metal bell with patterns of red flowers and green ribbons
- Celestial Cycle - Bi'an's compass is black circle-shaped with gold circle patterns and a sun in the middle of the compass. Wujiu's bell is a golden metal bell.
- CHENG XIAOSHI & LU GUANG - Bi'an's compass is a wall clock with roman numerals. Wujiu's bell is a simple silver bell with a wooden handle.
- Master Yin Yang - Bi'an's compass is dark copper in a lotus shape. Wujiu's bell is now copper, with a trident-shaped end.

- Tide Bringer - Siphon Soul has a water effect, with the White Guard's hand releasing bright waves. Meanwhile, Wavering Soul appears as a rushing wave of water that flows away from the Black Guard.
- Witness - Siphon Soul has a pale blue paint effect, and Wavering Soul has a darker blue paint effect. Both are accompanied with black ink, white and yellow paint in the shape of mountains.
A-Tier:[]
- Dust - Siphon Soul has a golden effect. Wavering Soul has a black and white effect.
- Time Camera - Siphon Soul has a brown-ish film reel effect. Wavering Soul has a darker black and white film reel effect.
- Frozen Core - Siphon Soul is recolored to an icy light blue, with frost particles floating about, while Wavering Soul casts a path of ice surrounded in icicles on either side.
- The Sun and The Moon - Siphon Soul is recolored to dark blue with asterism stars and suns. Wavering Soul is recolored to dark blue with asterism stars and moons.
