Sputter is a hunter ability belonging to the Wax Artist, Philippe. This ability is unlocked when the hunter reaches the first marker of Presence.

Description[]
- The Wax Artist can continuously spray wax in front of him, which not only sticks to Survivors, but also other components of the map.
Waxed
Wax will stick to Survivors when they are hit by Sputter or come into contact with wax-coated objects. At 20/50/80 Waxed progress, Survivors' interaction speed is reduced by 5%/10%/20% and movement speed by 2%/4%/6%. At 100% Waxed progress, the Survivor will be trapped in place for 3 second(s). If a Survivor's Waxed progress does not increase within 12 seconds, the wax will shed at the rate of 15% per second. Wax-coated pallets, windows, Cipher Machines, and Exit Gate switches will also be unusable for 15 seconds.

The Wax Artist can shoot wax from his wax hose against Survivors, if the Survivor's waxed accumulation reaches 100%, they will be unable to move, use their tools, and their active abilities for 3 Seconds during the waxed state.
The Wax Artist can also shoot his wax to interact with the map environments such as Windows, dropped Pallets, unfinished Cipher Machines, and activated Exit Gates for 15 Seconds to block Survivors from interacting with them.
Other Details[]
- Vaulting or using anything that has wax on it will accumulate 25% of wax progress on the Survivor.
- Cipher Machines blocked by wax would show a white outline to the Wax Artist.
- Wax Artist can also aim at the Cipher Machine's antenna to block it.
Hunter Tips[]
- Blocking a vaulting spot/cipher machine multiple times over a short period will put the aforementioned vaulting spot/cipher machine under a blocking cooldown for a short while, so Phillipe wouldn't be able to fully apply pressure or guard certain looping spots on the map without the help of the Confined Space persona trait.
- Wax Artist's Sputter can counter bodyblocking to a good degree, if a certain rescuer would attempt to bodyblock your previously chaired victim on the run, sputter at either the bodyblocking survivor or both of them is the opportunity is good in order to stop the bodyblocker from extending your chase with your victim.
- Sputter's requires good aiming coordination and control skills.
- Wax Artist can use Sputter to block Cipher Machines to buy himself more time by 15 seconds. This can also be very critical for endgame if the Cipher Machine is almost primed.
- As any wax-sputtered vaulting spots are blocked for a 15 seconds, the Wax Artist is generally one of the hunters that are able to be safe around looping spots without the need for confined space, this makes him to have an even greater tactical advantage and strategies without struggling on looping spots when confined space isn't used.
Survivor Tips[]
- Be aware while going against Wax Artist, as he can block some strongest window/pallet vaulting spots in certain maps of the game, such as The Sacred Heart Hospital's birdcage room, ruins near the shack, and Red Church's windows.
- Be very aware while playing any slow vaulting character, as the wax oil works similarly to Naiad's puddles and will heavily decrease your vaulting speed.
- Using Perfumer against Wax Artist is a good idea, as Perfumer's Euphoria could revert the accumulated cool wax or hot wax. However using this on open areas will be extremely hard, to the point of near uselessness as the wax artist is able to stun a Perfumer under Euphoria state while waiting for the Euphoria to ran out as the Perfumer is stunned, therefore if you're a Perfumer it's best to find an enclosed space or looping spots as fast as possible while kiting a Wax artist.
- Sputter will not remove an owl from any survivor under any condition, this is both advantageous for the Wax Artist and Survivors. as for Wax Artist, he's able to stun someone under the protection of Seer's owl when the blocking duration had almost ended. Though this would also mean even when stunned, survivors would still be under the protection of Seer's owl.
