Identity V Wiki

Spy is a Hunter ability belonging to "Nightmare," Orpheus. It is automatically unlocked at the start of a match. It will upgrade into Hunt once 2500 Presence Points are reached.

Official Details[]

Spy[]

Hold the ability button to spy on a Survivor. Keep the Survivor within your field of vision for 1.8 seconds to lock on and make a Dive when launching normal attacks on them for 45 seconds.

Dive
Performs a dive during normal attacks and auto locks on the spied Survivor. If hit by pallets during the dive, gains the Revelation effect.

Revelation
Dive can destroy dropped pallets. If hit by a pallet during a dive, you ignore Knockback and Stun effects and destroy the pallet immediately.

Hunt[]

The time required for spying is reduced to 0.7 seconds. When using Dive twice in a row, it will interrupt the backswing of the first Dive.

Gameplay[]

"Nightmare" is able to spy on the Survivors if the target is kept in his field of vision for 1.8 seconds, with regular attacks becoming dives. These dives will automatically lock onto Survivors who are being spied on and will direct "Nightmare" to the closest route to the survivor even directing you to objects that can block you from attacking a survivor if done right, Nightmare can perform a surprise curve attack at an unsuspecting survivor.

The Dive attack mark will last for 45 seconds which will force Nightmare to spy on that survivor again unless Nightmare chooses to cancel it to pursue to spy on another survivor or carry a survivor.

This ability can also be used to Terror Shock careless survivors and can be affected by Detention unlike most of the hunters' abilities.

If "Nightmare" is stunned by a pallet during his dive, he will gain the Revelation effect, which allows him to destroy the pallet and ignore stuns and knockbacks the next time he gets hit by a pallet.

Upon reaching Hunter's Presence Tier II, Spy is upgraded to Hunt and the duration needed to spy on Survivors is reduced from 1.8 seconds to 0.7 seconds, and "Nightmare" can perform his Dive attack up to 2 times.

Other Details[]

  • The "Nightmare's" spy range is around 17 meters.
  • Each "Nightmare's" Dive covers a distance of at least 6.2 meters.
  • Dive attacks can be affected by Detention.
  • During Revelation, "Nightmare" can destroy already dropped pallets during his Dive.
    • However, he cannot destroy the pallet using his normal/charged attack.
  • On Full Hunter's Presence, If the "Nightmare" manages to hit a Survivor during his first dive, he is forced to perform an attack recovery animation and will not perform a second dive.

Survivor Tips[]

  • Going into areas with tight spaces and high walls will impede "Nightmare's" spying ability. Dive attacks will be interrupted by terrain objects and tight corners. Use these terrain objects as a temporary cover until "Nightmare" stops relying on his dive.
  • Poseidon Watches and Magic Wands (Decoy), along with the Explorer's book will remove the Spy mark instantly. Use these abilities when you're explicitly in danger of being in an area where dive will have a guarantee to leave you incapacitated easily.

Hunter Tips[]

  • You're able to remove the mark from a spied survivor by tapping the ability again. This is particularly useful in situations where it may be more advantageous to execute a standard attack instead of utilizing a diving attack.
  • You can manipulate your in-game camera to spy on survivors behind obstacles.
  • If you lose track of the marked survivor, tapping the attack button will make the "Nightmare" dive in the direction of the survivor's location no matter how far they are. A similar tracking ability can be replicated with The Feaster's tentacles.
  • Nightmare's Dive attacks can be curved as long as there is nothing blocking his shortest possible route. This is very useful as this tactic makes Nightmare more unpredictable allowing Nightmare to catch survivors when their guard is down before they could use their abilities.
  • Nightmare's Dive is immune to Movement Speed debuffs from survivors such as Acrobat's Sticky Bombs, Weeping Clown's Explosion , and Entomologist's Swarm of Insects.
    • Female Dancer's Music Boxes are an exception due to it being able to slow down Hunter's attacks including "Nightmare's" Dive.
  • You can skip the falling animation by pressing the attack button upon landing. This allows you to Dive towards the survivor quickly.
  • Upon reaching to full presence, "Nightmare's" Dives can counter Flywheel Effect should the Survivors attempt to dodge your first dive.
