—Helena Adams (Deduction Star 2021) |
Appearance
Helena is a thin, slender doll with fair skin, shoulder-length, choppy red hair, thin red eyebrows, and small, brown button eyes cross-stitched with light grey thread.
She wears a pale gold coat with two black buttons and thick, light tan cuffs, a light tan shirt, a dark blue plaid scarf loosely tied around her neck, a knee-length blue plaid skirt, and black Mary Janes. A cerulean bucket hat embroidered with gold, with haphazard white stitching, and a torn hole showing cotton stuffing in the left side sits on her head, and she wears round glasses with thick, black metal frames. A tear is visible in her right forearm, showing cotton stuffing. She grasps a polished wooden cane with a gold top in her right hand.
Gameplay
The Mind's Eye is a decode-type Survivor who can decode Cipher Machines very quickly, but vaults significantly slower. Because of her blindness, her vision is mostly black and shadowy, except for her nearby surroundings, outlined in white, or when she uses her Cane. Using her Cane to strike the ground will outline the Hunter in red to her teammates, as well as slow down the Hunter for a short period of time.

Concept / Design Notes[6]
Design Notes
The image of Helena was initially defined as a literary youth around the 1920s. The 1920s was an era of prolific literature. At that time, the popular classic women’s clothing had a relatively low waistline. The most distinctive headwear symbol was the cloche. The texture of the hat was generally velvet, satin, etc., and would complement the small and docile short hair perfectly. We settled on the last option as the base image for Helena.

Trivia
- She is based on Helen Keller, a famous blind and deaf American author from the 19th and 20th century.
- Helena is one of four survivors in the game that are unable to drink Demi Bourbon's alcoholic drinks due to being under 21, the others being Martha Behamfil, The Coordinator, "Memory", The "Little Girl", and Lily Barriere, The Cheerleader.
- She is the only playable confirmed blind character in the game. Eli Clark is purportedly also blind but may see with the help of his owl.
- During the hourly fireworks show for the Spring Festival 2020 event, Helena was one of only two Survivors who the fireworks would not appear for, with the other being Eli.
- Her favorite Dishes are mini cake and cookies, likely because she likes sweets and desserts.
