Helena Adams, also known as the The Mind's Eye, is one of the 50 playable Survivors added to Identity V.
This page is a compilation of lore and story content for this character.
Backstory[]
Character Introduction[]
Helena lost her vision in a fever when she was 1 year old, but she still learned how to read and write from her parents and a tutor. However, Helena has a greater ambition: getting a college degree. Can the owner of Oletus Manor pay for her tuition? That's what the braille invitation letter suggested, at least.[2]
Chinese Character Introduction[]
Helena was blinded by a high fever when she was one year old, but under the careful guidance of her parents and a tutor, she still learned to read and write. However, Helena had greater ambitions and entered university to become a Bachelor of Arts. Maybe the owner of Oletus Manor could pay for her tuition? At least that's what the invitation, written in Braille, said.[3]
Character Relations Menu[]
Helena lost her vision at the age of one due to a fever, but she managed to learn how to read and write with the help of her parents and a tutor.
Despite this, Helena has an even grater ambition—earning a college degree. Will the owner of Oletus Manor pay for her tuition? That's what the braille invitation letter seems to imply.
Deduction Quests[]
All completed Objectives reward the player with +335 Logic points for the Logic Path. After the character's deductions are completed, their Worn Clothes will be available.

Letter to Father (2020)[]
Dear father:
Whenever I think of you, I realize how lucky I am.
You were the one who hired Sullivan to be my teacher.
I have since become fascinated with languages and words.
Despite all this, father,
I feel lost at times.
Do the words we speak and the paragraphs we write come from what we've heard, or do they come from our own thoughts and experiences?
I can never fully trust the things I write, and I'm tormented by thoughts that may not be completely my own.
Sullivan said I must persist in order to regain my confidence and let my talent shine.
Despite that I have yet to confirm whether I have any talent in writing. I do hope that one day I'll make strides in literature.
It's such a wonderful thing to express my thoughts and experiences in words!
Before I pick up my pen and slate again, I'm to attend a conference at the Oletus Manor.
Please don't worry about me as I'll be meeting Sullivan's friend at the Manor.
Love,
Helena
Helena's Manor Diary (2021)[]
Perhaps this will be the last entry of my records.
While I never found my answers about creation here, my experiences will serve as an infinite source of inspiration going forward.
Just like any story about adventures, things didn't go well in the beginning. That "seminar" wasn't even fair, which made me anxious.
Until I met that child.
We're so much alike—both of us are trapped in a muse's cage,
yet we're so much different—despite that I wanted nothing more, I could never be as candid as she is to myself.
She reshaped me, just like Sullivan did back then.
They showed me the light at the end of a misty journey.
And as a winner who's crossed the finish line,
I'll leave this place tomorrow with my "reward" and continue with my pursuit.
I'll no longer be lost this time around.
A Page From Helena Adams' Experiment File (2022)[]
Serial No. 0-0-3 (corrected to 0-1-3 afterwards)
Name: Helena Adams
[Test Indicators]
1. Kindness
2. Taming[4]
3. Self-protection[5]
[Inclinaton]
The perfect "control group"
[Test Results]
1. Overall Evaluation: A manic at heart, she was tamed by her own conscience and education. Her self-awareness was sound and her mentality was mature. She should have been an ideal control group, but she turned out to be easily tamed and difficult to control.
2. Methodology:
After multiple tests with No. 0-1-0 in the early phase, we conducted pharmaceutical interventions in stages with a more reasonable dosage (according to data) on No. 0-0-3.
Early on in the experiment, No. 0-0-3 showed excessive compassion and care toward No. 0-0-4 as they were both "lambs." She also showed kindness toward No. 0-1-0 as she considered them "allies."
No. 0-0-3 was wary of No. 0-0-1 throughout, who was more mysterious and overbearing. As the experiment progressed, No. 0-0-3 became excessively compassionate. This affected her otherwise sane mind and led her to making incorrect judgements in extreme situations. She gradually fell into No. 0-0-4's trap and became the only punisher in the game.
When the "truth" was exposed, the shock from the cognitive deviation and immense guilt shattered No. 0-0-3's protective shell for her personality. This seemed to have created an ideal environment for the drug. Yet the results of the experiment were far from what we had expected.
3. Analysis Summary
As Sullivan's prey, I decided that No. 0-0-3 should have been the perfect control group based on her early exchanges with Sullivan.
At the beginning of the experiment, her behavior proved our point—she was too kind and easily tamed.
In conventional cases, once a control group has been "broken," it would rapidly experiment into the experimental group.
Perhaps there was certain unavoidable misinformation about her recent developments. During the "uncontrollable" stage, No. 0-0-3 was unsurprisingly resistant. This ultimately negated the experimental results we expected.
We currently can't determine whether it was the instability and insufficiency of the medicine, or No. 0-0-3's inherent characteristics, that led to such results.
A Carefully Pasted Piece of Braille in a Writing Pad (2023)[]
... When he picked up the hunting rifle, I uncovered the truth of fear.
When you found the whistle, I touched the mask of goodwill.
When I entered the study, I knew the truth of human nature.
Now...
Gala..
The game is at its end..
..
When we push open the door that puts an end to all nightmares,
What will we see behind it?
Will it be the real you or the real me?
(There are bloodstains at the edges of the piece and an Italian phrase written in an exaggerated cursive below it — Muse no. 3)
Helena Adams: Investigation Field Notes I (2025)[]
The first time I heard of Helena Adams was through a series of articles recounting the inspiring yet tragic story of a young girl who had lost both her sight and hearing. Under the guidance of a remarkable teacher, she began to develop a notable talent for writing. Her pieces, published in local newspapers, were marked by an elegant use of language and deep emotional resonance. Yet, despite their beauty, there was a lingering unease beneath the surface. At the time, other pressing matters took my attention, and I did not pursue the story further. However, when her name resurfaced in a list of missing persons under "special" circumstances, my curiosity was rekindled.
Helena Adams
The first person I approached in my investigation was Mrs. Allison, a former maid in the Adams household. Gentle and approachable, she reminded me of the governess who had cared for me as a child—a woman whom we children had cherished for her kindness.
Mrs. Allison had come to work for the Adams family in the year Helena was born. Mr. Adams had requested her help in caring for both his wife, who had been left emotionally fragile after the birth, and the infant Helena.
"As a baby, Helena was incredibly well-behaved," Mrs. Allison recalled wistfully. "She rarely cried and was full of wonder at the world around her. The only issue was her fear of the dark, so we always kept her bedroom brightly lit."
Mrs. Allison sighed deeply. "But sometimes fate shows its cruelest face. After a sudden illness, Helena lost her ability to see, and in the common view, her chance to explore the world she had once been so curious about was gone. She became bound to the darkness she had feared most."
"At first, it was bearable—Helena could still sense light and vaguely make out shapes at a distance," Mrs. Allison explained, holding her hands apart to demonstrate about a foot's distance. "Mr. Adams, ever the devoted father, showered her with gifts—countless toys, and even dedicated an entire room to them to comfort her. I spent almost every day in that room with her. But by the second year..." She paused, folding her hands. "Both mother and daughter fell apart. Those were difficult times for us all."
I was already familiar with much of what happened next before I spoke with Mrs. Allison. After Helena's vision deteriorated further, the child plunged into a period of uncontrollable rage and madness, a frantic despair that seemed to consume her very soul. Her mother, already stretched thin, collapsed under the strain and fled to her family home, never to return. Mr. Adams, desperate for a solution, sought out every possible remedy and consulted numerous physicians. Finally, through the recommendation of a noted psychologist, he met the renowned educator of special children, Miss Sullivan.
"When Miss Sullivan arrived, everything changed." Mrs. Allison continued. "She taught Helena how to read Braille, which allowed her to read, write, and even recite. But more importantly, she taught Helena how to live in the darkness and how to endure the solitude that came with it."
As Mrs. Allison traced the edges of a photograph I had handed her—a close-up of Helena taken just three months before her disappearance—she hesitated, her words seemingly caught in her throat. "Miss Sullivan insisted that Mr. Adams remove everything that had once comforted Helena," she said softly.
It started with her colorful dolls and toys, which were replaced with Braille books and everyday objects. Mrs. Allison found this shift unsettling.
"Miss Sullivan even forbade us from speaking to Helena during her lessons," Mrs. Allison added. "No matter how much Helena cried, the only way she could communicate was by passing a Braille note to Miss Sullivan." She wiped her eyes, as if the memory weighed heavily on her.
Eventually, the last companion Miss Sullivan removed from Helena's life was Mrs. Allison herself.
"I felt her methods were too harsh for a child, and I voiced my concerns to Mr. Adams. He spoke to Miss Sullivan, though I don't know what was said. In the end, Mr. Adams decided to let me go, and after Helena turned eleven, I never saw her again."
Mrs. Allison's voice faltered slightly with resentment, but she quickly regained her composure. "But perhaps Miss Sullivan really did know best," she added, sighing.
After all, that once-frantic "monster" became a poised, learned "role model."
When I inquired about Helena's hearing impairment, Mrs. Allison's answer surprised me: "Helena could hear perfectly well. Miss Sullivan had even trained her to be exceptionally sensitive to sound."
A confused look crossed Mrs. Allison's face as she clarified, "At least, that was the case before I left."
After bidding Mrs. Allison farewell, I obtained Helena's medical records from various sources. There was no indication of any illness that could have caused her deafness after the age of eleven.
I then tried to visit Miss Sullivan, but her assistant refused to let me see her.
With few options left, I turned to Mr. Adams, who welcomed me into his home. When I arrived, he had just returned from Dublin, clearly fatigued after receiving a tip that Helena had been spotted at a station there, following the announcement of his reward.
"Charlatans... all of them," Mr. Adams remarked bitterly as he poured tea and gestured for me to sit. "In a few days, I'll be heading to Glasgow. A collector there claims he saw a half-completed sculpture at a seminar that looked strikingly like Helena."
Mr. Adams shuffled through letters on the table, his tone tinged with a bitter laugh. "It sounds absurd, doesn't it? But these are the kinds of things I keep receiving, he said, motioning to the pile of letters.
There were about twenty letters on the desk, each of which Mr. Adams had carefully sorted by geographical location.
Mr. Adams, now with graying hair and a wearied face, seemed physically drained—a stark contrast to the sharp, vigorous middle-class gentleman depicted in the family photograph behind him.
"Do you still keep in contact with Miss Sullivan?" I asked. His movements slowed, and he stood up, leading me upstairs to a room facing south.
The room was bathed in afternoon sunlight, casting a warm glow over everything. It had clearly been renovated with thick woolen carpets and furniture pushed to the walls to avoid sharp corners. Shelves running along the walls. I surmised this must be the "toy room" Mrs. Allison had described, though now it was filled only with two rows of low bookshelves stretched across the entire wall.
After receiving permission, I randomly picked up a book from the shelf. It was a Braille text—handwritten and carefully bound. The edges were frayed, suggesting it had been read and reread countless times, and the room contained many such volumes.
"When it finally dawned on me that Helena might have disappeared, I sought out Miss Sullivan. Her assistant told me she was studying abroad." Mr. Adams picked up a book from the desk near the window and handed it to me. "Shortly after, Miss Sullivan sent this book to me."
The book, titled Night Writing, stood out among the others. It had a legitimate publishing number and distribution authorization. The first and last pages were inscribed in Braille, with varying pressure and spacing that suggested different people had written them.
Since I had not yet become proficient in Braille, I relied on Mr. Adams to translate. He pointed to the raised dots on the title page. "This was a gift from Miss Sullivan to Helena," he explained. "The inscription on the title page is her message to Helena."
My child, may you persevere through the darkness...
"I cannot fathom how this book ended up back in her hands," Mr. Adams murmured, flipping to the last page. His fingers traced over the denser raised points, and his eyes grew misty. "It is beyond doubt who the writer is..."
Miss Sullivan, it is true that I cannot see the color of the sun, nor describe the shape of birds in flight, but I can still feel the sun's selfless warmth, still hear the courageous flapping of wings... The vivid world is not something only to be seen. The vitality and strength of its beauty prevent me from accepting sympathy won by lies or praise gained through pity. It also keeps me from being content as a "survivor" locked away in a cage. Even in the darkness, I long to be a creator, to make a choice driven by my own will—though I do not yet fully understand what that will might be. Still, one must take the first step, wouldn’t you agree?
Maybe the person I once was saw the darkness as only solitude. But now, I no longer fear the dark... and I no longer feel alone...

The following resources related to The Mind's Eye were, at some point in time, present in official websites or in-game after Identity V's official release, but have since been replaced. As such, they may contain details that have since been altered or removed from the character's backstory. Their related removal date will be listed at the top of their respective section.
Chinese Character Introduction[]
At some point between May 28th and September 18th, 2023, The Mind's Eye's character introduction on the Identity V Official Chinese Website was changed. It was changed again between September 18th and October 3rd, 2023, to its current version, which is almost identical to the initial version. Below is a translation of the removed unique backstory.
When Helena was 1 year old, she suddenly suffered from acute cerebral congestive disease, which caused her to become blind due to persistent high fever. However, her father was patient and wise, and taught her to use her hands, nose, and ears to perceive the world. He also made a beautiful blind cane for Helena, which allowed her to gradually able to go out alone. Later, her father hired a tutor, Ms. Sullivan, to teach Helena Braille, etiquette and other knowledge, and she showed her outstanding literary talent.
Character Relations Background[]
In June, 2022, an unreleased Character Relations background story for The Mind's Eye was found in the game files. This backstory was changed slightly before its official release with the Character Relations Menu update on August 8th, 2024. The following is the previous wording.
Helena lost her eyesight to a fever before her second birthday, but she learned to read under the attentive guidance of her parents and a private tutor. However, Helena held even greater ambitions, wishing to attend university and become a Bachelor of Arts. Perhaps the owner of the Oletus Manor would be willing to pay for her tuition? At least that's what the invitation in Braille said.
Deduction Summaries[]
These are unreleased summaries found in the game files in June, 2022. As the released deduction summaries were removed when the Character Relations Menu was updated on August 8th, 2024, these have since become obsolete and likely won't ever be officially released.
Deduction 1: Father's Gift Helena lost her eyesight when she was young. Deduction 2: Hope Helena studied with a private tutor. Deduction 3: Honest Life Helena seized the chance to make her own decisions.

Compiled Overview[]
Backstory[]
Helena caught a disease at a very young age, rendering her hospitalized and blind. Her father cared deeply for Helena, and even wished he could trade his vision for her blindness. He gifted Helena with an exquisite cane with which she could use as an echolocation device. Helena's father hired a tutor named Sullivan for her, who was excellent at teaching Helena. Seeing this as a chance for popularity, Helena's tutor made her pretend to be deaf as well in order to sound inspiring for teaching a blind-deaf girl. Helena, however, got sick of lying and left her home to live for herself and make her own decisions.
When she received an invitation to a Seminar at Oletus Manor held by her teacher Sullivan's friend, she eagerly went to the lecture.[12]
Events at the Manor[]
Helena would be part of the Control Manor Game, being the 3rd person to arrive. Among the other participants, she considered "Orpheus" an ally and was kind to him. She was warier with Ada Mesmer and Emil. When she met Galatea, she felt a sort of kinship with her, seeing them both as innocent "lambs".
At some point, an incident would occur with Emil attacking Helena and Galatea. Galatea would push Helena out of the way. The incident would end with "Orpheus" shooting Emil with a hunting rifle, killing him. Galatea reacted badly to the incident, running off and locking herself in her room with the sounds of banging being heard. In a message to Galatea, Helena would swear to never leave her side and protect her. She also warned her about going out alone as Emil's body had vanished.[13]
It is later hinted at in Helena’s fourth birthday letter that Ada disappeared and left her whistle behind. Galatea would hand the whistle to Helena, who thought of this gesture as an act of breaking away from the shackles of control.
Helena would become the only "punisher" in the game after Galatea's "trap" was unveiled. It is currently unknown what exactly that trap entailed.
Together with Galatea, Helena would survive their manor game, however, it is unknown what happened to her afterwards.[14]
Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]
- It's a common theory that she joined the Manor Game in order to obtain tuition to pay for college, or at least find a sponsor.
- Some theorists think the disease she caught in her childhood was most likely Trachoma.

Manor Game Table References[]
- ↑ Much of what is known about this game is obtained from The Mind's Eye's 2022 Letter and Sculptor's 2022 Letter. This includes details for a list of known participant serial numbers, and it having participants that "should have been the perfect control group" (though this apparently spiraled out of control).
- ↑ The official summary of Sculptor's 2022 Letter mentions an asylum to be this Manor Game's location, likely referring to the White Sand Street Asylum. This is also likely because all participants in the group are connected to the aforementioned asylum.
- ↑ 0-1-0 is directly referred to by Ada as "Mr. Novelist" which could be referring to Orpheus. However, Orpheus's picture does not appear in the Relations Web for this Group and Ada is stated to have "misidentified" Subject 0-1-0 in her 2024 Letter. Therefore, it is theorized that Subject 0-1-0 could be Roy Kafe or another unknown person either disguising himself as Orpheus or being mistaken for him.
- ↑ In The Mind's Eye's 2023 letter Helena mentions Galatea having found Ada's (unattended) whistle. Although it is unknown what this means, this could mean that Ada was eliminated in her game.
- ↑ In "Psychologist's" 2024 Letter, it is stated that Ada "paid the ultimate price," likely referring to her life. However, this could also be referring to Emil’s elimination.
- ↑ Emil's serial number was previously listed as 0-0-2 in the Time of Reunion Trailer, but it was changed to 0-1-2 in his 2024 Letter.
- ↑ See Sculptor's 2022 Letter.
- ↑ Note: it is unknown if this is the real "Orpheus" or someone going by his identity. It is slightly implied that 0-1-0 was the one to kill Emil in Emil's 2024 Letter. See the notes on Subject 0-1-0 for more details.
- ↑ In the Closet Diary, Emil is likely the boyfriend in the young couple who died.
- ↑ In her 2022 Letter, Helena, mentioned as Subject 0-0-3, is noted as being the "only Punisher in the game" which possibly means she ended up being the only "Hunter" in this Manor Game, though the Sculptor is known to have participated in the same Group. Therefore, the other participants have been noted as not likely to have Hunter identities.
- ↑ 11.0 11.1 The Mind's Eye's 2021 & 2023 Letters imply that both Helena and Galatea finished their Manor Game and survived. However, it is currently unknown if either of them die after the experiment as they are usually kept in the manor until receiving a second invitation.
- ↑ Sculptor's 2022 Letter and The Mind's Eye's 2023 Letter heavily imply that Galatea was a survivor in this Manor Game.
