The Red Church (also known simply as Red Church, or just Church), is a map available in Identity V. It takes place on a large church and its surrounding grounds, the prominent color palette of this map being a gray-white. There are 8 chests that spawn on this map, and 32 pallets.
Background[]
Red Church Haunting Rumors: Ms. Ives of Loren Street told our reporter that whenever passing through the Red Church area on the night of a full moon, a dark shadow can be seen lurking in front of the rose windows, and a strange humming can be heard.
Constructed in 1880, this Romanesque association is named after its red roof. Unlike other associations in the region, the church on the grounds of the Oletus Manor uses traditional brick construction techniques and embodies the high quality craftsmanship of the time. The central dome, supported by an octagonal base, is the church's most famous architectural element. Huge doorways, stone statues of guides, and precisely cut granite blocks indicate that the church used more tomb architectural designs during construction. In 1883, the Red Church was rebuilt by the then lord of the manor and opened to the public two years later.
Soon this nostalgic church became a pandemic, and people were delighted to see the large rose windows and the elaborate decorations rare in Romanesque churches. It was a common sight at the time to have a wedding here; that is, until the aristocratic girl who eloped with someone in 1889 went missing. The police found the hair ornament that the girl wore before her disappearance near the Red Church. No ones know why the girl disappeared or who she ran off with. After that, a series of mysterious incidents occurred near the church, and people began to believe that they could no longer perform sacred rituals at the church because it was now a district contaminated by evil spirits. The Red Church was soon abandoned, and ordered to be sealed by the Lord of the Manor.[1]
Notable Locations[]
Church[]
The church is the main feature in this map. It is a large tower church that is located in the center of the map. There are five ways to access the church; through doorways at the left, front, and right of the church, and two broken windows. Multiple rows of chairs are located here that, like the wedding area, has pallets in between some of the chairs. A large red rug leads to an altar with a large cross hanging on top of the altar.
West Church Ruins[]
The large ruins to the west of the church, consisting of multiple walls and pallets. It lies in-between the Shack Ruins (Top Broken) and the Red Carpet Ruins (Bottom Broken).
Wedding Area / Red Carpet / Main Gate[]
The wedding area is located in the South of the map. It features a wedding aisle that leads to a small roofed staircase. Multiple benches are located in the wedding area that has a few pallets in between the benches. A large red rug and multiple broken props adorn the rest of the wedding area. It is fenced off by a broken spiked fence.
Red Carpet Ruins / Bottom Broken[]
The garden ruins are located to the left of the wedding area. Broken Walls are located in the garden ruins and is a great kiting location due to the tight spaces. The main Exit Gate is located here, to the very south.
Graveyard[]
The graveyard is located to the right of the wedding area. Large headstones are located here and are placed in clusters to act as a wall. Multiple pallets are located in the graveyard. There is a trapdoor in the graveyard, but it is not a dungeon that a player can escape through.
Small Gate Ruins[]
A large ruin area above both the Graveyard Ruins and the Pallet-Window. It contains two Cipher Machines, two Rocket Chairs, and a Dungeon spawn.
Graveyard Ruins[]
The ruins the player is met with when exiting from the east door of the Church. There is a rocket chair in the middle, and two small walled areas with a pallet each.
Pallet-Window[]
Also known as One Pallet One Window, this small ruin is positioned south within the Small Gate Ruins and eastward of the Graveyard Ruins. As the name suggests, this ruin features only one pallet and one vaultable window.
Shack[]
The Shack to the North of the church, presumed to be a crematorium due to a few urns being located in the building. Two doorways are located at the left and right of the crematorium, and a broken window can be climbed through on the right side of the crematorium. There is also a small graveyard featuring windows and a single pallet located outside of the crematorium. To the West of the Shack, there is another area featuring Broken Walls.
Shack Ruins / Top Broken[]
A ruin featuring exclusively Broken Walls. It contains a Cipher Machine, a Rocket Chair, and a Chest.
Character Spawn Locations[]
There are 7 possible character spawn location groups on this map.
Note: The actual spawn points of Survivors will be refreshed at random within 15m of the marked positions on the map.
Area Selection[]
There are 9 possible area selections on this map.
Cipher Locations[]
There are 5 possible cipher spawn point groups on this map.
Basement Locations[]
There are 2 possible locations the basement can spawn in:
- Inside the crematorium, directly next to the front doorway.
- Inside the church, at the Southwest corner of the church building.
Dungeon Locations[]
There are 3 possible locations the dungeon can spawn in:
- In the walled area to the left of the garden ruins.
- In front of the large graveyard.
- In a small walled area near the North exit gate.
Map Variant - Night[]
During the 2018 Halloween Event, a variant of The Red Church was released and accessible in Quick Matches and Custom Mode. It periodically returns to Quick Matches every Halloween update, and is permanently available in Custom Mode. This map variant was first dubbed the "Halloween Red Church", and is also referred to as "Red Church (Night)" when selected in Custom Mode and "Moonlight Church" during the 2023 Halloween Event.
The map variant features a darker atmosphere, Halloween decorations, a brand-new soundtrack, and reskinned Cipher Machines and Chests.
Nocturnal Escape[]
Red Church (Night) is used as the base map for both Nocturnal Escape gamemodes in the 2023 Halloween Event. It features an additional obstacle course consisting of additional pallets, map objects, and the unique Wax Figure gameplay mechanic.
Additional Gameplay Tips[]
Normal Mode[]
- Due to being a small map, Hunters who specialize in map control such as Photographer and Dream Witch would gain an advantage playing in this map.
- Survivors whose abilities rely on larger maps such as Embalmer and Priestess may not be able to use their abilities to their fullest extents on this map.
- However, Priestess is still viable on this map, depending on how strategically she is to place her portals.
- Hunters can use the dismantlable walls to the advantage, damaging survivors without triggering attack recovery; this may be especially useful if camping a specific Rocket Chair near the walled area. Survivors, on the other hand, may use them to stun hunters and possibly rescue teammates from the enemy player's clutches.
- Wall dismantling progress will be saved. It may serve useful to "prime" the dismantling progress of a wall - or multiple - and finish the job when the Hunter walks by.
- Conversely, Hunters can ensure Survivors do not gain a possible advantage over them by destroying the walls closer to each row's end, ensuring that any Survivor who vaults the newly-created window can be hit from additional directions.
- Pushing against the broken walls without fully dismantling them will prevent stillness Crows. If the player already has crows, pushing against the walls will remove them.
Tarot Mode[]
- Confined Space may be a helpful Knight persona talent to bring due to the multiple vaultable windows within the church.
Changelog[]
- New map: Since that missing person case the Red Church, a place once used to exchange vows, has been reduced to a position of infamy amongst locals. What will participants stumble upon when they go to the Red Church? After maintenance, this map will be available in both match and custom game modes.

Trivia[]
- The Red Church was featured for the Geisha's The Bride Costume trailer. This is likely due to the shared thematic.
- Red Church and its map variant are the only maps where players can interact with walls and create a vaultable window.
- However, only one wall in each row of connected walls can be dismantled per game.
- Destroying a wall with a hunter or a survivor on the other side will either stun or injure them, respectively.
- The Red Church is referred to in the Soul Weaver's Crystal Candle costume description. She is likely meant to be representative of the red chandelier that hangs above the center of the church, visible when the player adjusts their camera angle upwards.
- Red Church (Night), the Halloween map variant, is the only variant map permanently available in Custom Mode selection. It was officially dubbed "Red Church (Night)" in the May 23rd, 2024 Custom Mode Revamp update; prior to that, it shared the name Red Church with the default map version.
- When accessing Map Information within the Custom Mode interface, the bird's-eye-view minimap remains the same as the default map's.
- During Beta Testing, a floral arch was present above the red carpet. It has been since removed.
- There was once a large crucifix located in place of the cross inside the church, however, it has been removed; likely after maintenance on August 1st, 2018.
- Behind the church altar, there is an empty room that can be accessed from Mad Eyes' console view. Another model can be seen inside of the room - it is theorized to be a small stairwell leading downwards, or a coffin.
- The paper on top of the slab in the graveyard used to read "this is not a dungeon!!" in Chinese characters, as newer players had often made such a mistake. This was changed after the Map Easter Egg update.
- This Easter Egg still remains on Red Church (Night), however. Likewise, the only other Easter Egg Red Church (Night) contains is the reference to Corpse Bride - the one implemented alongside the map's release itself.
