Letter to Father Duke (2020)
Dear Father Duke,
I offer you my condolences for your loss at White Sand Street.
You've never lived amid foul stenches and desperation, so you could never understand the havoc these desperate men could wreak.
If you offer them a roof over their heads, rye bread to fill their stomachs, and labor to occupy their minds, then you'll give them the illusion of hope. By doing so, they will never stem the courage to defy. The doctors you hired have failed to recognize this method, and all they ever do is brewing those chemicals. What good can they do if they're driven to insanity or reduced to dullards? Incompetent men can't earn money!
New investment is coming in soon, and the new asylum is within reach. I believe your compassion towards these patients will move our business forward. If you could transfer these patients at White Sand Street to my new asylum, I am confident that I could erase their pain from the past. By doing so, you shall be complemented by the locals, and of course, you will receive financial gains in return. I understand you don't care for materialistic needs, but please forgive me, for I have nothing to offer as a token of my appreciation.
I look forward to your reply.
Your loyal servant,
Kreacher Pierson
Kreacher's Manor Diary (2021)
The First Night
Miss Emma Woods is so lovely.
Her pretty features remind me of the girl who escaped ten years or so ago. If I hadn't notified the nurse at the asylum to bring her back, she would have been devoured by the rascals on the street! I still remember how that Macallan took credit and "generously" offered me 13 shillings as a reward. 13! He might as well have given me two patients' portions of bread! I never understood why Father Duke would have chosen such a stingy person as his representative.
The funny thing was, our arrogant Mr. Macallan didn't last long. Back then, the suffering of the Whyte siblings at the asylum escalated to the point of no return. I would have made a fortune with the sister who broke her arm. Yet they turned her into a moron at the asylum by pumping her belly full of medicine. And they somehow fried the brother's brain as well.
Such a shame. What great little helpers, what a sweet family.
Now's my chance. I'll get to building a second kingdom at White Sand Street once I've won the game and Sweet Emma will become my queen. The new orphanage can use a more amicable representative.
By then, I won't have to pretend to please "the upper class" anymore.
Before that, try to be a total gentleman, Kreacher.

Serial No. 4-0-2
Name: Kreacher Pierson
[Test Indicators]
1. Selfish
2. Aggressive and Competitive
3. Role-playing
[Inclination]
A petty, greedy, and selfish person. His lack of foresight made 4-0-2 suffer from his own "cleverness."
[Test Results]
1. Overall Evaluation:
4-0-2 was the first subject to be eliminated from the game. He was immobilized by Subject 4-1-1's trap in the manor. As for whether he really recalled Subject 4-1-1's identity? Nobody knows.
2. Methodology:
Subject 4-0-2's attempts to frame Subject 4-0-3 were reckless and immature, which is enough to show that 4-0-2 is an aggressive and competitive subject who likes to think that he's smarter than everyone else. Studies show Subject 4-0-2's personality is the result of his poverty-stricken upbringing.
Subject 4-0-2 wandered through the streets from a young age. Deception has always been his way of survival, and he has never been treated with sincerity and kindness. So, when Subject 4-1-1 showed concern, Subject 4-0-2 fell for it immediately. When he was with Subject 4-1-1, his wit slowed down, his greed turned into a weakness and his delusion of grandeur became his downfall.
3. Experiment Summary:
Subject 4-0-2's street-smart and survival instincts were the last bit of "knowledge" he had: Instead of dying from starvation or sickness on the streets, he felt that exploiting orphans' disabilities to gain sympathy from begging and stealing was the most practical and economical way for survival.
This resulted in the formation of Subject 4-0-2's contradictory personality of inferiority and pride. He lived freely on the streets and even named himself the "King" of the orphans. But in the high society that he so desperately tried to get in, he was just a nobody with low self-esteem to the point of stuttering from nervousness.
It's obvious that Subject 4-0-2 tends to role-play. He took the role of a "King" among the orphans, a thief before the church, and an empathetic scarecrow when with Subject 4-1-1. It was a trap that seemed so bizarre, yet it also made sense.
"Sweet Home" Plans (2023)
The money is finally about to be mine.
Once I get out of this damn place, I can put in an application with Father Duke for a second "Sweet Home."
The rats hiding in the dark corners of White Sand Street will treat me as their king again. They will treat me as their savior... Perfect! Absolutely perfect!
There are always rats who yearn for light and freedom, seeking to emerge from their holes and nibble on more cheese. But just look at their miserable faces, what else are they good for besides being kept as cash cows in the "Sweet Home?" They'll probably end up as monsters feared and despised by everyone!
A rat that escaped was only worth 13 shillings!
A new kingdom needs new laws. Since there is a precedent when it comes to those wretches with improper thoughts and actions...
I have no choice but to take away their ability to escape. In this way, that pitiable show they put on may garner more attention from the upper classes. Such a successful idea! Such a perfect rule!
As for the profits made from them, we should just do as the rich do and open even more "Sweet Homes," or we can invest in novel inventions with special purposes.
With their help, the benevolent king will have an obedient queen, a humble minister, and a close physician.
Everything will be yours, Kreacher.
A Message (2024)
He is a greedy thief and a protective scarecrow. A mind bent on profit retains some incidental kindness, and in his clever ploys, he willingly steps into a sweetly-coated death trap.
Kreacher Pierson: Investigation Field Notes I (2025)
The name Kreacher Pierson first appears in correspondence marking the handover of the orphanage to the Church's stewardship. This so-called "philanthropist," a close associate of Father Duke, was by no means ignorant of the true purpose behind the orphanage's transformation. Yet Pierson was no reputation-starved merchant or idle nobleman; beneath the surface lay a backstory steeped in mystery and intrigue.
Kreacher Pierson
Public records reveal little about Kreacher Pierson's origins, but the arrest logs from his final days on White Sand Street paint a far darker picture. Before his quiet departure, Pierson had served time in prison. A deeper probe into Plymouth's police files uncovered that he was no stranger to the criminal underworld. For nearly a decade, he prowled the streets, arrested time and again for theft and blackmail. One wonders—was it some unforeseen turn of fate that compelled him to vanish and begin anew elsewhere? His police file bore damning annotations: selfish, extreme, deceptive—traits, perhaps, born of hardship and cultivated in the dark corners of society.
My investigation led me to Plymouth—a port city in the throes of transformation, alive with conflict and commerce. The thoroughfares bustled with finely dressed merchants, weary laborers, and the occasional inebriate. But my true destination lay deeper: the slums, cloaked in crumbling brick and sagging timber. Here, where daily survival demanded compromise, many expected an "interview fee." In return, they spoke freely, eager to share what they knew with a roving journalist.
That morning, I uncovered little until a peculiar chant reached my ears, drifting from a narrow alley. At first, I mistook it for a nursery rhyme, but soon realized it was a rhythmic chant—perhaps an action rhyme passed down among local gangs. I had heard whispers of such youths and their spotty records. And it seemed Pierson had not been a stranger to these streets before his days on White Sand Street. Could he have once stood among them?
(......
One swipe, a drunk man hides the light, coal carts rumble, taking flight.
Two swipes, the old man quickly flees, bumps the ground, his trousers knee.
Three swipes, the gold watch safe inside. He coughs and cries, and shakes with pride—
"Dear Sir, dear Madam, help me please! For Mother coughs, the rats do tease."
Four swipes, the bell tolls the hour—to the wall, the stone throws with power!
......)
The leader of the gang, a youth named Hans, bore the sun-darkened face of one seasoned by the street. When I inquired after Kreacher Pierson, he signaled the others to still their play and named his price: forty shillings—the last of what I carried.
("Miss, consider yourself lucky. Out of everyone here, I knew Kreacher Pierson best. They say he made his fortune with that silver tongue of his."
"Ah, he was always like that—could convince anyone of anything. What you just heard? All make-believe. But those tricks don't work so well these days.")
With my payment securely tucked in his pocket, Hans assured me that my investment would yield returns: a guided tour of Pierson's former residence, and all the knowledge he could offer. He even promised—half in jest, half in threat—that this fee included protection, financial and otherwise.
From Hans, I gleaned the most vivid accounts of Pierson's early life. A tattered photograph, which he guarded like treasure, showed a much younger Kreacher standing beside the boy Hans at a charity event held by a local monastery.
After reviewing our conversation, I could more clearly piece together the early years of Kreacher Pierson. The chant, which carried the tricks of a thief, shed light on his upbringing. Born into the foulest poverty, he lost both parents to tuberculosis at a tender age. His first theft, unlike the clever verse, ended in disaster. A novice pickpocket, he was caught and beaten near to death. It was not pity that spared him, but panic—fleeing the bloodied boy crying for his lost parents. When he awoke, the few shillings clutched in his fist were soon pilfered by more seasoned hands.
Each brush with death became its own cruel education. Kreacher learned to dazzle constables with tricks of light, to feign seizures or contagion, to conceal blackmail notes beneath pillows, to read a man's fortune in the wear of his shoes.
Hans added that Kreacher was never the strongest or fastest, but his mind was keener than most. He got things done. He was ruthless when he had to be. Even when he looked like a sickly wretch, folks followed him. He made people listen. As soon as he figured out how to move stolen goods faster, things got slicker—and safer.
Though violence was often his tool of choice, there were moments of generosity. Once, after a successful heist, Kreacher shared a meal—thick stew and warm bread—with his gang. Hans, strutting in his new leather shoes, caught the envy of a boy from a proper family and, for once, felt pride, not shame.
("Let me tell you how we think," Hans said. "If a few kicks from Kreacher meant a full belly and some street smarts, better that than dying under some copper's boot. Do you know what it's like when hunger grabs you by the throat?"
"Don't make the mistake of seeing us as some sob story. Those fine folk reading newspapers over a feast, speaking of dignity—they sicken me."
Kreacher kept us alive. Then he left. Just vanished. But the rhymes? Those stayed. They still do.")
As we approached Kreacher's former home—a decrepit shack beside the monastery—Hans grew quieter. He handed me another faded photograph, this one showing both of them years prior, holding loaves of white bread and wearing forced smiles.
("You can tell—we didn't thank those benevolent sponsors," Hans muttered. "Kreacher hated them—more than I did. Maybe he tried playing the hero that day."
"It didn't make him feel noble; rather, it was a disgrace. Kreacher saved a young lady with flowers, but in the end, he got blamed. Those rich folks didn't care to scam us; we weren't worth the trouble. The funny thing is, to say something good for a man like Kreacher would've embarrassed her.)
Perhaps it was this innate difference that hardened Kreacher and caused him to despise the rich. I offered a word in reply. Hans paused, then laughed bitterly. "Yeah. If he'd been born into a fine home with wealth and title, would you have called him one of the good ones?"
In the house where Kreacher once slept, I found the torn remnants of a monastery pamphlet. Hans said that, for a time, Kreacher would read it aloud, practicing the phrases of mercy and compassion, polishing his stutter, shaping his voice to match those of society's "betters." But by the time he left Plymouth, the pages were slashed through, the words blackened.
I suspect that by then, Kreacher Pierson had found his calling. He may never have trusted the hand that offered mercy, but he learned how to fashion his own ladder—and climb it.

Compiled Overview
Backstory
Kreacher was born into poverty on the streets of Plymouth, a port city located in Devon, southern coast of England in 1869. At that time, his parents passed away from tuberculosis at a younger age. Kreacher became an orphan that day, but would soon meet a young boy named Hans at a local monastery's charity event. At some point, Hans reveals to him as a leader of a street gang as Kreacher learns how to be a thief and became materialistic to work with Hans. Despite his inexperience, his mind was more sharper than anyone else. One day, Hans distracted a lady to feed him a piece of white bread while giving Kreacher a chance to pickpocket for the first time. However, the distraction plan backfires. Kreacher gets caught for snatching her purse that resulted him almost getting beaten to death[15] and fled from the streets while he cries about missing his deceased parents.
Later on, as soon as Kreacher woke up, he found a few shillings that's been clutched in his fist that gave him a bit of strength after his first theft. He did what he had to do in order to survive in a cruel, harsh environment and quickly learned a few techniques on his own such as blinding constables with light tricks, feigning seizures and reading a man's fortune in his shoes. Once Kreacher figured out how to move stolen goods faster, he catches every street smart's attention to hear him out and transformed violence as his tool of choice. Eventually after one successful heist, Kreacher sat with a crew, passing around a pot of stew and warm bread. For a while, the silence was easy for Kreacher, almost like he received peace for once until he listens to Hans' conversation with the others to compliment him of giving them a few kicks other than dying to a copper's boot.[16] This would culminate Kreacher's idea of receiving better profit from the townsfolks. With enough money raised, he would bid Hans and the gang a farewell.
In 1884 or 1885, Kreacher opened up an orphanage on White Sand Street, and brought in pitiful children, many of which who had disabilities. He portrayed himself as a "philanthropist" who cares for the children, but it was heavily implied that it was a "deceit". It was later revealed that Kreacher is far from being caring towards the children, and he saw them as a tool to gain fortune.[17] He forced the children to work, and would give kids with the lowest amount of money made in a day a beating. He had tendency to use others' disabilities (be it physical or mental) to his own advantage.
On February, the orphanage caught the attention of the church. Kreacher, who knew the truth about the church and the fact that they also weren't as good as they made themselves look, attempted to resist. The reason he was against the church turning it into an asylum is that human experiments would render the children useless. However, he eventually gave in and sold the land and management rights of the orphanage to the church's representative, Mr. Macallan. On October, 1889 after handing over the orphanage, he still observed it to a certain extent. He was aware of Lydia Jones offering illegal abortion services in her clinic and when he caught Lisa Beck attempting to escape the asylum, he informed a nurse and sent Lisa back for her own safety, believing himself that he did the right thing to prevent her from having a horrible life on the streets.
Some time later, Kreacher spotted some benevolent sponsors trying to scam a young lady with flowers and drove them away. However, he was blamed by rich aristocrats from the high society at the end. Kreacher was later arrested by the Plymouth City Police and was sentenced to be put behind bars in a few years. Records state that he was charged with crimes he committed that includes theft and blackmail. The police files also annotated his labeled traits such as selfishness, extremism and deception. It is unknown whether he received a bail or planned a jailbreak, but he got out of prison afterwards and kept resisting arrest from time to time again. Not giving up on his schemes, Kreacher planned to open a new building and reached out to Father Duke to convince the head of White Sand Street Asylum to transfer the patients to him.[18] Additionally, Kreacher began to search for a "partner" and to gather enough money to open the building. The compensation for Kreacher giving the church ownership of his orphanage wasn't enough to build a new one, so years later Kreacher eventually made his way to a manor in Glasgow, Scotland for the monetary reward.
Events at the Manor
July 6th, 1899
Kreacher was the second to arrive in the manor with Emma Woods and Freddy Riley where he receives his own room number of 2F03. While the three were settling at the dining room to wait for the fourth guest to arrive, Kreacher quietly snatches Freddy’s tableware when he hasn't pay attention. When Freddy realizes that his ware was stolen, Kreacher taunts him and made Freddy furiously storm out of the dining room. Emma feels sorry for Freddy's bad mood and departed as well, leaving Kreacher all alone.
Later that night, Kreacher began to write down his diary about feeling attracted to Emma, not recognizing her as Lisa Beck. He recalls the time of notifying an asylum nurse to "save" that girl, but despises Mr. Macallan for taking all the credit and rewarding him with only thirteen shillings, a gesture Kreacher found insultingly cheap. Judging this, he rants on Bishop Duke for choosing Macallan as a representative. Kreacher would also reflect back on the Whyte siblings at the asylum about making a fortune out Dolores who broke her arm, but noted that their suffering has worsened than before, as Dolores consumed too much medicine and Robbie’s brain getting fried by the staff there as well. He expresses his pity towards them and ends his manor diary to conclude that his own ambition will establish a “second kingdom” at White Sand Street after winning the game with Emma as his "queen." He envisions himself no longer needing to appease the upper class and vows himself to act as a total gentleman for now.[19]
July 7th, 1899
Kreacher walks into the dining room and made an attempt to court her into the garden by the time the doctor, Emily Dyer arrived lately. However, he quickly accuses Emma for rejecting his invitation as she mentions Freddy's proposition and runs off.
Later on, Kreacher started to spy on Emma behind the garden bushes talking to a Scarecrow and assumes how crazy she is. When Kreacher sees Emma going back inside of the manor, he follows and manages to escape both Freddy's and Emma's notice. Shortly after, Kreacher trails behind Emma who is presumably meeting up with Freddy and eavesdrop on their conversation of discussing some plants. Kreacher would then run back inside the laundry room by hiding in a Closet when they search their surroundings before Emma checks out in attempt to find Kreacher.
After they both left, Kreacher went into the garden to check out which plants they were discussing and finds the belladonna flowers. Carefully not to touch the leaves secreting toxin, he took some of the purple fruit from the flowering plant.
July 10th, 1899
Kreacher got out of his room on the second floor where he spots gold coins underneath the top wooden railing. Consequently, as he leans against the old railing while attempting to pick it up, the railing collapses and sent him crashing down on the first floor without warning. Emma discovers his injured body and immediately runs to find Emily. Even while injured, the gold coins became his current greedy goal. He lets his own greed consume him when he got back up to the first floor and snatches the gold coins before Emma returns with Emily.
Eventually, Emily checks on Kreacher's health and became concern about a big bruise that occurred on his left shoulder. Kreacher nods, thanking Emily for checking in on him. While he's polite about her act, he assumes that she was just another privileged doctor who only helps give special treatment to the upper class. However, when Emily actually helps him by grabbing a first-aid kit from the table, he gets caught off guard as soon as she passed it onto Emma and may have misjudged her character entirely. Emma would use this to escort Kreacher back to his room.[20]
July 11th, 1899
Kreacher acknowledges Freddy's presence entering the dining hall to try and get better acquaintance with Emma and Emily for the upcoming game before getting ignored. Unfortunately, they found a blueberry pie on the table as Emma quickly discovers the poisonous fruit from the belladonna plant. Then, Emily explains that the plant will leave an oily residue on a human's skin if touched that will cause an allergic reaction. Kreacher panics and demands everyone to show their hands. Freddy reveals the blisters to Emma on his hand, but she refutes this when she became defensive of Freddy not knowing anything about belladonna.[21]
Sooner or later, Kreacher went as far as disguising himself as the Scarecrow, believing that Emma needed a "warm-blooded man". Emma, thrilled that her scarecrow has come to life, dashes off inside the manor to find Emily and share the news. Left behind, Kreacher hurriedly got out of the costume that was torn, grabbing a straw nearby and stitches the scarecrow back together just in time. He dives into the bushes as Emma returns, dragging Emily behind her. They only find the Scarecrow propped back up on his stick. While Emily checks out the scarecrow in confusion, Kreacher slips quietly out of the garden only to see their affection one last time before shutting the door.
Sooner or later, Kreacher went out his way to greet Emma at the dining room. By the time Emma politely asks Kreacher to move, he goes mad and ends up assaulting her that made her hide around the room. This would culminate Kreacher to go search for Emma until he caught up with her at the foyer. He attempts to grab Emma while playing nice, but was pushed away by her. During this, Kreacher started freaking Emma out with his kindly facade and warns her that she'll regret rejecting him.[22]
July 13th, 1899
It is unknown how Kreacher went missing on his eighth day, but his greed and entitlement towards others proved to be his downfall after being immobilized into a trap. Emma brought the Scarecrow at the Arms Factory while Kreacher was stuffed inside the luggage. He struggles to get out while Emma was pushing it but to no avail, she brought the Scarecrow out of her luggage and vengefully burns Kreacher within it, leading to his demise.[23] This resulted him to be eliminated while Freddy and Emily were killed by a deadlier threat.[24]
Alternate Theories and Conclusions
- It is theorized that Kreacher was mutilating some of the orphans in his orphanage as a way to make them more profitable.
- In Kreacher's 4th deduction, one of the orphans writes about a new orphan joining the orphanage saying "he's lucky, only lost the left side." It also mentions one of the other children having to clean red stained sheets, implying whatever happened to the child happened shortly after arriving there. Additionally, the deduction description has the line "you have to go out and create your own wealth."
- Robbie's 2025 Letter further implies that the reason why Dolores Whyte lost her hand had something to do with the orphanage.[25]
- Kreacher's 2025 letter also mentions that he often used violence when trying to make a profit, beating those he worked with seemingly often.[16]

Manor Game Table References
- ↑ The Diary segments for Emma Woods and Emily Dyer shows them accessing and exploring the Arms Factory. It is however implied that this version is actually a copy of the original Minerva Arms Factory. Freddy Riley mentions during Doctor's Diary segment that he believes Arms Factory to be a replica of the original Minerva Armory.
Alice DeRoss also mentions in Hell Ember's 6th Character Day Letter, Leo Beck: Investigation FieldNotes[sic] I, that: "When I arrived at the "Minerva Factory," once a beacon of hope but now defunct, I found it had long since been replaced by new shops."
This implies the original Minerva Arms Factory had long since been demolished and replaced with new buildings. - ↑ The Diary segments for Emma Woods and Emily Dyer show them access Arms Factory, beginning their Manor Game, on July 13th.
- ↑ As Emma Woods' age is listed as 22 years old in her Relations Menu, this can be assumed to be the age at which her Manor game took place. We can determine her birth date to be December 21st, 1876 due to the conclusion of Lawyer's 6th Deduction Quest, Troublemaker, mentioning: "A letter: Leo Beck and Martha Beck invite Freddy to attend Lisa's first birthday party on December 21st, 1877."
This implies that Lisa was born a year earlier, on the same date in 1876. This would place a 22 years old Emma involved in the Manor game that took place in July in the year 1899. - ↑ It should be noted that Hell Ember's serial number is different from those of other subjects in most of the Manor Games, possibly because it was assigned by B.A. and the other experiment staff at Sacred Heart Hospital rather than the usual authors of the other experiment files. It is further implied B.A. assigned Leo his serial number in Hell Ember's 3rd Character Day Letter, A case review file left behind in the Sacred Heart Hospital, where B.A: mentions: "Perhaps I shouldn't have named an experimental subject. After December 21, "Cinder" will simply be Subject No. 1-12-22-13."
- ↑ 5.0 5.1 Emily Dyer is shown being attacked by Hell Ember in her Diary segments, leading to her elimination.
Lawyer's 2023 Birthday Event questions mention that: "Question 5: "Whose elimination was closely linked to Freddy Riley?" ", with the correct answer being the option: "Emily Dyer" - ↑ 6.0 6.1 6.2 6.3 Emma Woods appears to be the only survivor of the "Thistle Thorn" Manor game. She mentions in Gardener's 4th Birthday Letter, A Letter Attached with Dried Thistle and Without Recipient Information, that: "My new friends in this group warned me in secret to keep a record of everything, just in case my memories would start to deceive me."
This shows that Emma survived the experiment and fled Arms Factory, leading to her immediate inclusion into another test group which didn't include her past teammates.
Later in the same letter, she also mentions that: "Yes, I've won the previous round, for now [...]" - ↑ It's implied that Hell Ember spared Emma's life once he recognized her, despite the heavy behavioral drugs he was subjected to, and allowed her to escape the Arms Factory. Emma Woods mentions in Gardener's 4th Birthday Letter, A Letter Attached with Dried Thistle and Without Recipient Information, in regards to her interaction with Hell Ember: "Lisa, Lisa... I don't know why, but writing this name makes my eyes sting.
Maybe that weirdo knows me, but I'm unable to place him in any of my puzzle pieces."
An un unknown author mentions in Hell Ember's 4th Character Day Letter, Message Hidden Inside the Wooden Box Transported in Secret to Sacred Heart Hospital, that: "Subject 1-12-22-13's self-awareness broke free of the memory blockade at the end of the experiment, and Subject 1-12-22-13 regained some emotion as a result of Subject 4-1-1's provocation."
Alice DeRoss mentions in Hell Ember's 6th Character Day Letter, Leo Beck: Investigation FieldNotes[sic] I, in regards to the experimentation staff: "The reports highlight a particularly striking incident: all drug control measures failed to affect him." - ↑ 8.0 8.1 Kreacher Pierson is shown being burnt alive while inside of Mr. Skelkro by Emma Woods in her Diary segments, leading to his elimination.
An unknown author mentions in Thief's 3rd Birthday Letter, A Page from Kreacher Pierson's Experiment File, that: "4-0-2 was the first subject to be eliminated from the game. He was immobilized by Subject 4-1-1's trap in the manor."
An unknown author mentions in Gardener's 3rd Birthday Letter, A Page from Emma Woods' Experiment File, in regards to Kreacher Pierson that: "In contrast, during this process, Subject 4-1-1 persisted in her revenge plan against Subject 4-0-2. In the game, Subject 4-1-1 burned the scarecrow to symbolize her revenge." - ↑ An unknown author mentions in Lawyer's 3rd Birthday Letter, A Page from Freddy Riley's Experiment File, in regards to Freddy Riley that: "[...] but this behavioral characteristic was limited to his exchanges with No. 4-0-4, making him less careful against the deadlier threat."
The wording implies that his careful attitude lessened once Emily Dyer had been eliminated, causing him to fall victim to Hell Ember.
