Volcker Berglund is a surveyor connected to the events on Lakeside Village. He died in a ritual alongside Eugene Hayward and Marjorie Hayward
Compiled Overview[]
Volcker was a "Surveyor" who was investigating the unusual activities of the residents who visited Lakeside Village on behalf of Arthur Russell. During this time, besides sending investigation reports to Russel since September 12th (of unknown year), he kept up correspondence through letters with his brother, Darren Berglund. He was also the writer of the letters in Yidhra's deduction quests, deeply interested in his father's sleep studies regarding dreams with stairs going down a fiery cave.[1]
While investigating, he believed the cult known as "The Brotherhood Of The Yellow Sign"[2] were participating in worrisome religious activities, where they would worship a strange creature in the lake. They participated in sacrifice of animals to the "water god", wore yellow robes, and had a hidden sanctuary where perhaps more sinister practices took place.
After attempting to investigate the sanctuary during a night of a special sacrifice on September 21st, Volcker went missing.[3] From the records of the order, Volcker, along with the couple he was staying with, were judged as blasphemers and were burned to death as a sacrifice to the water god. They were burned and not drowned, as only superior offerings (virgin women and young children) or devout worshippers were drowned in the lake.[4]
Soon after Volcker went missing, there was a fire in the plantation on September 26th, the entire village "bravely put out the fire", but went missing since and became abandoned.[5] Arthur Russel sent another employee Chris to investigate, and in the ashes of bonfire, Chris found giant scales.[6]
Alternate Theories and Conclusions[]
- Volcker is a skeptic, as he does not believe there is an actual Lake God that grants wishes, but that it is the cult disciples that are granting the village wishes instead, while the meat offerings thrown into the lake are devoured by piranhas.[7] However, he also has a fascination with the supernatural, especially in regards to dreams.
- He carried his father's memento with him, but it is not known what it is.
